Book 1:

The Force Awakens

Chapter 5: Visions

The Falcon drops out of lightspeed, revealing a beautiful green planet ahead, Takodana.

Han pilots the Falcon down. Finn and BB-8 beside him, Rey as co-pilot, with Jace right behind her.

Han and Jace notice Rey looking out the windshield, almost in tears.

Rey, "... I didn't know there was this much green in the whole galaxy…"

Han watches her, sees a vulnerability that touches him.

Jace rubs her back, calming her down.

The Falcon crests over an endless green forest to reveal a large and magnificent castle on a picturesque lake.

The Falcon lands near the castle, among dozens of worn, smallish freighters.

Rey steps off the Falcon, BB-8 at her side.

She takes in the towering stone castle, forest to one side, lake to the other. It's serene, beautiful, and all so new to her.

Jace steps next to her.

Rey, "it's beautiful."

Jace is gazing at Rey, "yes you are."

Rey, "what?"

Jace quickly looks at the castle, "uh, yes, you are right, it is!"

Both had blushes on their faces once more.

Back in the Falcon, a storage unit opens. Han rummages, retrieving old blasters. Finn arrives behind him, concerned.

Finn, "hey, Solo, I'm not sure what we're walking into here-"

Han, "d'you just call me, 'Solo?'"

Finn, "sorry. Han- Mr. Solo. You should know, I'm a big deal in the Resistance. Which puts a real target on my back. Are there any conspirators here? First Order sympathizers?"

Han, "listen big deal, you've got another problem. Women always figure out the truth."

Han hands him a blaster.

Han, "always."

Han walks off. Finn watches him go, wracked with guilt.

Finn, "they do?"

Han snuck back around and said, "and besides, I'm pretty sure you've got competition with my nephew."

Finn just stands there dumbfounded as Han walks off.

Han exits the Falcon and goes over to Rey and Jace.

Han tries to hand Rey a blaster pistol as she looks at the castle.

Han, "you might need this."

Rey, "I think I can handle myself."

Jace, "I can agree with her on that."

Han, "I know you do. That's why I'm giving it to you. Take it."

Rey picks it up, and grips it. She aims it forwards as Jace smiles at her excitement.

Han, "you know how to use one of these?"

Rey, "yeah, you pull the trigger."

Han, "there's a little bit more to it than that."

Jace, "it's a very clumsy weapon. You've gotta master it."

Han, "what my nephew said. You got a lot to learn. You got a name?"

Rey, "Rey."

Han, "Rey. I've been thinkin' about bringing on some more crew, Rey. A second mate. Someone to help out. Someone who can keep up with Chewie and me, appreciates the Falcon."

Jace, "someone hungry for danger, like I was as a kid."

Rey, "you're offering me a job?"

Han, "I wouldn't be nice to you. It doesn't pay much."

Rey, "you're offering me a job."

Han, "I'm thinking about it."

Rey wants to say yes. But something stops her. A line she can't cross.

Jace can see her mind working. And he's afraid of what it might lead to.

Han, "well?"

Rey, "if you were, I'd be flattered. But I have to get home."

Han looks at her, questioningly.

Jace has a pained look on his face.

Han, "Jakku?"

Rey looks off, in thought. Yeah, Jakku.

Rey, "I've already been away too long."

Han turns to Chewie nearby, "Chewie, check out the ship as best you can."

Han turns back to Rey, "it's too bad. Chewie kind of likes you."

Han heads off.

Rey turns to Jace.

Rey, "Jace, I-"

Jace, "Please don't leave."

Rey, "what?"

Jace, "Rey, I know we've only known each other for like, a day or two, but I care about you. Ever since me and BB-8 ran into you, something's been telling me to help you. To be there for you. Staying on Jakku your whole life is a waste! Please, consider my Uncles offer."

Rey looks down, "I'll think about it."

Jace smiles, "that's all I ask."

….

Later, we see Han walking the others to the castle.

Finn, "Solo, why are we here again?"

Han, "to get your droid on a clean ship."

Rey, "clean?"

Han, "do you think it was luck that Chewie and I found the Falcon? If we can find it on our scanners, the First Order's not far behind. Want to get BB-8 to the Resistance? Maz Kanata is our best bet."

Jace, "an old friend of our family. She was the one to convince my mom to tell my dad her feelings."

Finn, "we can trust her, right?"

Han, "relax, kid. She's run this watering hole for a thousand years. Maz is a bit of an acquired taste, so let me do the talking. And whatever you do, don't stare...

Rey and Finn, "at what?"

Han and Jace, "any of it."

The door opens, where they hear and see the music and madness.

It's a loud and crowded mess of a hall. A room full of rough and odd aliens and humans, who gamble, drink, scheme, negotiate, argue, until we end up on the back of a tiny, thousand year-old, four foot tall alien, who suddenly starts, as if sensing something. The Alien turns to see the group.

She is female, wearing large adjustable goggles.

This is Maz Kanata.

Maz, "Han Solo!"

Everyone turns to look. It's all quiet in here.

Han, "oh boy. Hey, Maz!"

Noise returns to the room. Maz walks to them, pushing someone away as she does so.

Maz, "where's my boyfriend?"

Han, "Chewie's working on the Falcon."

Maz, "I like that wookie."

Jace snickered at the exchange between the two.

Max looked at Jace.

Maz, "Owen?"

Jace, "heh, hey Maz."

Maz was one of only a few people who called Jace by his first name all the name.

Jace was only okay with certain people calling him Owen.

And Maz was one of them.

Jace kneeled down.

Maz, "look how big you've gotten! "

Jace, "and you're still the same size. It's great to see you too Maz."

Maz smiles warmly at Jace, before turning back to Han, "I assume you need something. Desperately. Well, let's get to it."

Maz walks off, gesturing for them to follow. Finn and Rey are confused. Han indicates for them to follow. Jace goes along with it easily. They pass the enormous Grummgar, who sits with vixen Bazine Natel, who watches them suspiciously.

A small droid named GA-97, turns its head to see BB-8 following Rey and the others across the room. GA-97, now animated, makes a small transmitting sound, which means, "alert the Resistance. Their missing droid is here, along with Jace Skywalker."

In a darker part of the area, Bazine enters a shadowy space, and stealthily makes a call on a communicator. Clearly, Bazine is a spy.

"Inform the First Order... I've found the droid, and the Jedi."

….

A massive Star Destroyer hovers over the hacked ice planet.

A dark space is where we find Kylo Ren, addressing someone whom we do not see.

Kylo, "forgive me. I feel it again. The pull to the light. Supreme Leader senses it. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I will let nothing stand in our way. Not even our own family. Show me, Grandfather, and I will finish what you started."

As his emotion builds, he stands and heads off, revealing who he was talking to: the burnt, ashen, ghostly deformed mask of Darth Vader!

….

Back at Maz's castle.

Maz is putting together some food as she says, "a map to Skywalker himself? You're right back in the mess."

Han, "Maz, I need you to get this droid to Leia and Mara."

Maz, "hmm. No. You've been running away from this fight for too long. Han, nyakee nago wadda. Go home!"

Han, "Leia doesn't want to see me."

Jace, "and I don't think I can face mom again until I've found dad."

Finn, "please, we came here for your help."

Rey, "what fight?"

Maz, "the only fight: against the dark side. Through the ages, I've seen evil take many forms. The Sith. The Empire. Today, it is the First Order. Their shadow is spreading across the galaxy. We must face them. Fight them. All of us."

Jace, "I've been in this fight for a long time Maz. We need someone like dad to inspire hope again. Mom and I can only do so much. We're only two Jedi. Any other survivors have to keep hidden?"

Rey, "other Jedi?"

Jace, "those thay survived the Empire, and the First Order. There's three I know of who still live, but keep their identities as Jedi hidden."

Rey, "who?"

Jace, "Ahsoka Tano, Cal Kestis, and Ezra Bridger."

Finn ch snged the subject back to the previous one, "there is no fight against the First Order! Not one we can win. Look around. There's no chance we haven't been recognized already. I bet you the First Order is on their way right-"

Finn stops, seeing Maz adjusting her goggles, scrutinizing him. Her eyes get HUGE!

Finn, "what's this? What are you doing?"

Maz adjusts the goggles again. Her eyes get impossibly BIGGER. She grunts in recognition. She hoists herself on the tabletop, knocking over food and plates, crawling towards Finn.

Finn, "Solo, what is she doing?"

Han, "I don't know, but it ain't good."

Jace, "studying if you have any moles?"

Maz, "if you live long enough you see the same eyes in different people. I'm looking at the eyes of a man who wants to run."

Jace knew that about Finn. But he felt like he was about to learn more.

Finn, "you don't know a thing about me. Where I'm from. What I've seen. You don't know the First Order like I do. They'll slaughter us. We all need to run."

Jace and Rey are stunned at his words. Maz, not so much. She crawls back to her chair. She points to some pirates in the corner.

Maz, "you see those two? They'll trade work for transportation to the Outer Rim. There, you can disappear."

Finn sees them, and considers all of this.

Rey, "Finn!"

Finn, "come with me."

Jace, "after all we've been through, you're gonna just run?"

Rey, "what about BB-8? We're not done yet. We have to get him back to your base."

Finn, "I can't."

Finn stands to leave. He offers the gun back to Han.

Han, "keep it, kid."

Finn looks at Jace.

Finn, "I hope you find your father."

Jace, "... I hope you find your place in all of this."

Finn heads off. Rey gets up to follow. Maz dials her lenses back to normal, and turns to Han.

Maz, "who's the girl?"

Jace looks at Maz and says, "someone I've been curious about since I met her."

As Jace sees Rey heading over to Finn, he gets up to try and help.

Finn arrives at the table with the alien smugglers.

Finn, "I was told you could get me to the Outer Rim?"

Rey barges into the conversation, interrupting.

Rey, "what are you doing?"

Finn gets up to talk to her.

Finn says to Big Head, "don't leave without me."

Embarrassed, Finn moves her away.

Rey, "you can't just go. I won't let you."

Finn, "I'm not who you think I am."

Rey, "Finn, what are you talking about?"

Finn, "I'm not Resistance. I'm not a hero. I'm a Stormtrooper."

This stops her from saying anything.

Jace is shocked as well.

He knew that Finn wasn't part of the resistance, but he wouldn't have guessed he had defected from the First Order.

Finn, "like all of them, I was taken from a family I'll never know. And raised to do one thing…"

Rey and Jace could fill in the blank.

Finn, "but my first battle, I made a choice. I wasn't going to kill for them. So I ran. Right into you guys. And you looked at me like no one ever had. I was ashamed of what I was. But I'm done with the First Order. I'm never going back. Rey, come with me."

Jace didn't want either of his friends to leave. Especially Rey.

Rey, "don't go."

Finn, "take care of yourselves. Please."

Rey looks at him, crushed. With quiet resignation, Rey watches Finn return to the aliens.

Jace feels pain from both himself and Rey at the loss of their friend.

And all three head off. He gets to the front door and walks through it.

Rey is heartsick, but she turns as she hears the sound of a young girl in anguish, crying. She follows the sound into the castle, turning so she can't see that Finn has looked back at her one last time.

Jace is experiencing something similar to Rey, hearing the screams of a young man. He follows Rey through the castle.

Rey and Jace step down into the basement corridor. BB-8 follows them. Walking carefully and confused, they are not sure why they're down here. Rey can hear the echoing sounds of a young girl crying. Jace hears the echoes of a young man in pain and anguish. They head down the hall... to the very end, where there is a door. It is almost as if a soulful vibration draws them closer to it. They look at the door lock….

…. And it opens!

Hesitant, Jace and Rey enter.

Rey and Jace move into the dark, small, vaulted storage room. Old treasures line the floors and walls, but there is something specific they are drawn to: on a table, an old wooden box sits there.

They move to it, unsure, afraid, as if an energy from inside the box has been calling them here.

It's as if their minds are in sync.

BB-8 nervously follows.

Rey reaches out, very slowly, to touch the box. A moment heavy with tension as Jace does the same.

They open the box and see inside, Luke Skywalker's original lightsaber!

Jace vaguely remembers how his father described it.

With hesitation, they reach towards it, but they cannot resist. As their hands make contact with it, touching as they do so, there is the piercing sound of a lightsaber igniting.

Both see different visions.

Rey moves her hand away as she hears metallic breathing.

Jace hears a deep, dark cackling.

Rey sees herself in a dark hallway of Cloud City.

Jace sees himself within the throne room of the Emperor.

Disembodied voices fill the air for both of them.

A young girl, "no!"

A young man, "you traitor!"

Rey looks around, confused by all she sees and hears. She turns and sees through a doorway.

Jace makes his way up the stairs of the large room.

We follow Rey and she runs down the corridor, but it all tilts and turns as she lands on a wall, which turns into the ground, covered in dried grass.

The room around Jace moves until he crashes to the ceiling, which turns into a burning stone floor.

Rey turns to see a burning temple at night. She sees R2-D2, who watches the flames, and a man appears. He falls to his knees, and reaches out to the droid with a mechanical right hand.

Jace looks around him to see various cloaked and masked figures, the Knights of Ren, winning against young Jedi, killing them from all around, as one slowly approaches an older girl in front of him.

Rain falls all around Rey as she looks up to see a warrior as he is stabbed by a fiery lightsaber! He screams and falls to the ground in front of Rey.

She's in the middle of a battlefield. She gets to her feet, frightened by what she sees. She sees Kylo Ren, and the six other Knights of Ren, who flank him!

Jace turns to see the older girl lose a fight with Kylo Ren. The sith standing above the girl, poised to strike.

As Ren turns to look at Jace, he hears the young voice yelling, "you traitor!"

And he realizes, the voice is coming from him!

Come back around to Rey, soaking now, as the Rain stops and sunlight illuminates her, she turns to look and sees….

A little girl. Rey as a child. She is sobbing, hysterical.

Unkar Plutt's meaty hand holds her thin arm. She is on Jakku, watching a starship fly into the sky, abandoning her.

Young Rey, "come back!"

Unkar, "quiet girl!"

The ship flies towards the desert sun, which is strangely eclipsed, as if being eaten by darkness.

Jace feels the scar over his eye as he sees his younger self cradling the cloak and saber the young girl possessed with an older woman nearby, holding his shoulder.

The scar over his eye was bleeding.

He could make out the name he was saying.

"Padme! Where is she? My sister can't be gone! She can't be gone!"

Jace remembered the name.

Padme Jaina Skywalker.

She had disappeared after her battle with Ren, when a huge force shockwave from Jace had separated the siblings.

He had no idea where she was now.

Rey sees it as nighttime, in barren, snowy woods. She's losing her mind, confused and lost, she gets to her feet, her breath seen in the frigid air. And she hears the sound of clashing lightsabers! She moves through the woods, towards the sound. Rey runs, heart pounding, when Kylo Ren emerges from behind a tree!

Jace opens his eyes to see himself in a large stadium, thousands of cloaked people around him. He turns to see a cloaked man, with horrible yellow eyes, and wielding a double bladed red lightsaber.

And standing before him were three people, two wielding blue lightsabers, and one wielding a green saber.

A huge shockwave of power sends Jace back!

Both Jace and Rey come out of their visions, falling into the hallway, right beside one another.

Both are out of breath, alarmed and perplexed.

They hear something and turn to look.

Maz stands at the end of the corridor, realizing what has just happened.

Rey, "what was that? I shouldn't have gone in there."

Jace, "we both saw visions. Of the past. The present. And the future."

Max explains, "that lightsaber was Luke's. And his father's before him and now, it calls to you! Both of you! You are both connected by it, and the force!"

Rey stands fast. Still overwhelmed, emotional, and speechless.

Jace follows.

Rey, "I have to get back to Jakku."

Jace, "I need to find my father."

Maz, "Han told me."

She removes her goggles from her tiny eyes, reaches out, and holds both of their hands.

Maz, "dear children. I see your eyes. You already know the truth. Whomever you're waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back. But... there's someone who still could. One who Owen yearns to see again, so he can make things right with his family."

Rey, "Luke."

Maz, "the belonging you seek is not behind you. It is ahead. And maybe, right beside you?"

Jace and Rey look at one another. As they gaze at one another, their feelings remain unspoken.

Maz, "I am no Jedi, but I know the Force. It moves through and surrounds every living thing. Close your eyes. Feel it. The light. It's always been there. It will guide you. The saber. Take it."

Rey suddenly stands.

Rey, "I'm never touching that again. I don't want any part of this."

And Rey runs off, passing Maz, and leaving Jace there.

Rey's mind is spinning, she can't take it, she turns and heads off, fast.

Jace mutters, "Rey…. I can't do this without you. I…."

Maz looks at Jace.

Jace, "I've already lost my sister. I can't lose anyone else I care about."

Maz, "go get her you fool!"

Jace quickly runs after his friend.

BB-8 follows after them. Maz sighs as she watches both of them go, feeling for the young pair.

Rey exits the castle, needing to run, but doesn't know where.

She heads toward the woods.

She doesn't see Jace and BB-8 following her yet.

Rey moves through the foliage, heart racing. Over this, we hear an intense rumbling, an omen of something horrible to come.

….

A massive rally, a thousand Stormtroopers, TIE Fighters, officers and vehicles all together. Brutalist structures, a mountainous snowy landscape. Addressing them at a podium, flanked by red First Order banners, is Hux. His voice echoes, "today is the end of the Republic! The end of a regime that acquiesces to disorder! At this very moment, in a system far from here the New Republic LIES to the GALAXY while secretly supporting the treachery of the loathsome Resistance. This fierce machine which you have built, upon which we stand, will bring an end to the Senate! To their cherished fleet! All remaining systems will bow to the First Order! And will remember this... as the last day of the Republic!"

Engineers perform final firing protocol. There's a sense of nervousness.

Will this massive weapon actually work?!

Hux, "FIRE!"

And Hux turns to give the signal as we see thousands of Stormtroopers turn to face an endless snowy landscape. What is about to happen?!

….

Reviews:

mmat: I don't think I have anyone for Ben.

Amanny: thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying the story. I've actually been using this transcript, and found another one that helps me, but thanks for trying to help.

Nathanael Card: glad you've been enjoying the story thus far. And as for who Mara Jade is, in Star Wars Legends, she was an assassin sent by Darth Vader to kill Luke Skywalker, but he was able to turn her from the Dark Side, and the two of them got married with a son named Ben. I'm this story, I made it so Jace, (derived from Han and Leia's son Jacen), is Luke and Mara's son, with Ben being Han and Leia's.

guest: Luke is still probably gonna die, but it's gonna be quite different to what happened in the movie. His death might be more like Obi Wan's, where he's struck down in a fearsome lightsaber duel.

….

As Rey sees visions of the fight in StarKiller Base, Luke seeing the temple burn, and Kylo Ren and his Knights in battle, Jace sees his sister disappear, (what do you guys think happened to her), where he was at the temple, and my version of the fight with Palpatine in Rise of Skywalker.

Also, I wanted to bring up any Jedi who might've still been alive during the sequels. They won't make any appearances until some chapters I plan to make that'll be set in-between Last Jedi and Rise of SkyWalker. And I'll try to find a way to put them in Rise of SkyWalker.

Also, what do you think Rey should say at the very end if the story?

Rey Skywalker?

Rey Palpatine?

Rey Kenobi?

Or just Rey?
