Chapter Four

Keefe was just about ready to pack up and leave when Foster made her grand appearance. (Isn't it weird that right when the person is ready to bail the other person(s) show up?)

She was wearing a simple yet beautiful knee-length red dress with diamond-studded black flats and the bead necklace he had given to her when they were fourteen. Her hair was slightly curled, her makeup was stunning (because there almost wasn't any) and there was a blossom from Calla's Panakes tree tucked behind her ear.

Keefe was speechless.

She smiled. "You look handsome." That brought him back right away (duh. He was always handsome. He was KEEFE).

"Of course I do! Did you expect anything less from Lord Hunkyhair?"

Foster rolled her eyes. "No. But this food looks almost as good as you. Do I see-human candies? How did you get these?"

"Long story. And I only get the best for the Mysterious Miss F."

"Well, then it's a good thing I only eat the best!" She laughed.

They sat down and gazed out at the lake. The water became a reflection of the woods at sunset.

"Hey, Foster?" Keefe started nervously. "Y'know how I said I had something special planned for tonight?"

"You mean other than the human food? Yeah."

"Well…." he took a deep breath. "Well, I wanted to start by saying how much you mean to me. You helped me through my depression-because-of-the-evil-parents stage. You are the light in my darkest times. And most importantly, you're my amazing girlfriend. But I don't want you to be my girlfriend anymore."

Keefe could see the hurt glittering in her eyes from a mile away. "Are we… through?"

"No, course not! I-I'm asking you, instead of being my amazing girlfriend, to be my amazing wife." He had pulled out the box while he was talking, and now he opened it. Foster was smiling with her hands over her mouth, crying happy tears.

She moved her hands to open her mouth. "Yeー"

She was cut off by a large tremble, almost like an earthquake, which made the unusually still lake ripple. "W-what was that?" she asked nervously, punctuated by another tremble.

"I wish I knew, Foster. But I do know one thing: it looks like it's time to get Team Black Swan back together."

"I thought we agreed we weren't calling it that?!"
