Dream World
Chapter 2
"Do you remember how we met?" his voice full of wonder. He knew the day they met that she was the only one for him.
"Of course, I do, how can I forget? I had just entered the coffee shop when you basically threw coffee on me because you weren't looking!" she exclaims, with a small smile on her face.
"Oh, come on! Really, Bren? It was 9 years back and you still insist that it was my fault! You ran into me!" he declares.
He did, in fact, run into her but she loves to see him all riled up like this. "No, I didn't. You were so rude, calling me blind and that I had wasted your coffee and time."
"So, you bought a coffee for me and followed me to the diner to apologize, even if it wasn't your fault?" he was teasing her.
It felt like it was just yesterday that he was yelling at her about his coffee. She had noticed his slumped shoulders and eyes that held so much sadness, it almost crushed her heart. She bought him a coffee to have an excuse to talk to him, to do something to make the sadness go away, even if a little. "Yes, exactly."
They both went down memory lane. That day, once they started talking, they went on for hours. He learned that she was a business manager for a small restaurant, loved dancing, dogs, the color yellow, and didn't always follow strangers, only when they were as handsome as he was, she said. He apologized for screaming at her. She found out that he had just come back after serving in the army (that explained the sad eyes), loved listening to music, watching movies, football, the color black, drinking beer, and wasn't always rude. The comfort had come easy and the conversation was natural, right from the start. A phone call in the evening broke the spell. So, Booth had asked her out for dinner for the next day. She was relieved to see that his smile lit up his face. Booth did not wait long to propose after that. The proposal was not grand, as quiet and straightforward as everything was with them. He asked her to spend the rest of her life with him when they were walking around the block. Besides, she was eager to marry him and start their lives together. He had taken her for dinner after, in a beautiful garden lit with fairy lights and candles. They had decided to have a small ceremony to save money and start their nightclub. The rest is history.
Caroline updated them about the interrogation of their employees once they reached the club. Then came in C-Synch. Booth didn't want to deal with him. Well, if C-Synch started saying things like "your stage has mystic properties" and annoy her, Booth would have to step in, after all. She believed in proof, and there was none for the magical properties mentioned. With him saying things like the power of the stage was there before they owned and will be there after they are gone, Booth had to give credit to Brennan to hide her irritation. The conversation was not going well. Now, Booth was angry at being called racist. As a result, Brennan had to take over for him. She always was the logical one.
Just as that matter was resolved, at least for the time being, the problem of the gun popped up. Great, just great, Booth told Bren, this is what was left to happen. How much worse could it get?
It seemed like he spoke too soon. Vincent and Zack were in custody. He went out to get some air and to think about the next steps. He had been out only for a few minutes when Wendell walks up to him. One small conversation later, his mind is reeling. Bren wouldn't have let anyone in the club, or she would have told him. Why did everyone seem to think that he killed the guy? Should he appreciate the loyalty or be worried if he lied?
Simultaneously, Brennan was roaming the floor, instructing Angela and Daisy when Arastoo stops her to chat. She nods to the other ladies to leave. He rattles on about how they should consider selling it to him. He tries convincing her by mentioning that they would still have jobs there, but they could only do so much with the limited funds they had, especially now, when their business would undoubtedly be affected by the murder. She humors him by asking for a price. The number he has decided is so much lesser than what he has ever offered before. Booth sees them when he carries the box of alcohol inside. She is shaking her head, with a hand on her waist, which tells him that the conversation is not pleasant. Brennan confirms once he gets their attention. So, he informs him in no uncertain terms to buy a drink and stay, or he can leave. She turns to look at Arastoo, eyes challenging him to say anything. He nods, just slightly, to show his surrender. Precisely then, Sweets comes in to ask if his band could audition. She's right Booth is made of soft spots. A lot of the time, he seems to make all decisions based on feelings and not through rational thought. Most days, she loves that about him too. She leaves him to make the call for the bail of Vincent and Zack and to look over the operation of the club. She wanted a few minutes to herself in her office, but it wasn't likely to happen when Angela walked in.
