Dream World

Chapter 4

"Booth, they will think you removed all the evidence," she says, hands fidgeting with the buttons of his shirt, still in his arms.

"I will take care of it, baby," he guarantees her with a kiss on her temple. When she doesn't reply, he explains further. "I'll tell Jared that we can't find your coat. That way, they won't suspect me since I'm the one who's letting them know it's missing."

"You're an intelligent man," she grins up at him.

"Is that all I am?"

"No, you are a kind, handsome, disciplined, honest, caring, and sexy man." It still amazes him to listen to her use any positive words to describe him. He kisses her once more. He holds her hand to his chest and starts swaying. They managed to sneak in some moments away from the world and their schedules for themselves. Even if the two of them spent all day together, they were never bored with each other. He found her fascinating, and no one could fathom the depth of the respect and admiration she held for him, all these years later.

He hurriedly wears his clothes and leaves to meet Jared. She takes her time to dress up and reach the club. He did what they planned to do. What he didn't expect was that Jared would try to convince him that Bren was cheating on him, let alone with Arastoo. He was enraged. Nine years or one, he had blind faith in her. This day just kept getting better and better.

By the time he reached the club, she had directed Zack about tasks that needed to do, had a conversation with Max, and had barely tolerated Daisy. She was standing on the balcony when he sees her.

"You look beautiful," he kisses her on the cheek, "black looks lovely on you."

"Thank you. So, did the police try to convince you I was having an affair with Arastoo?" she wants to know how it went.

"It's what they do, you know? Drive wedges." He nods.

"It wouldn't be irrational to think I was having an affair with him." She reasons. "He's very handsome."

She applies her logic everywhere, even them; it makes him smile. "I'd feel it if the energy was bad between the two of us. I'd know. The same way that you would know that I couldn't murder someone." Even when they are talking about her having an affair, his eyes are so full of love for her.

"I believe you would murder someone for me. And I believe you'd lie about it so I wouldn't have to carry that burden." Everyone knew that the best way to hurt him is to hurt her, but from what this fiasco showed them, everyone also believed that he would kill anyone who would try. It was unquestionable.

He smirks at that, knowing he would die or kill for her. Hell, he would do anything for her. That is the reason that they were also doing a benefit for the sick kids. He was sure that they would raise quite a sum for them, but for him, her reaction is more than anything else he could need. Just as she pecks his cheek, he snakes his hand around her waist. His smile is so big; it makes him even more striking than usual.

Once they both declare that they know who committed the murder, they walk to the office to have this conversation somewhere private. It wasn't a shock that Booth couldn't live with this information. He was unhappy that their employees were holding out on the cops, told them the coat is missing, which wasn't a lie but not entirely the truth, either. He had always been on the right side of the law and couldn't possibly keep this to himself.

It took a second for him to register that she had gone and stood between the two detectives. One had a gun pointed; the other was taking his out. What the hell was she thinking? Now, he was worried about his brother and his wife. Jared wouldn't shoot when he had killed someone to protect the person standing in front of him, right? Right? When Jared handed the gun to her, Booth took a big breath as the tension left him.

The rest of the night had gone off without a hitch, thankfully. They had had enough excitement to last them a year. Everyone had gone home.

He relaxes on the chair in the office when Brennan says she has another confession. The day had lasted as long as a week. He sighs and hopes it isn't another threat from Max or Arastoo or another one of their employees arrested. All negative thoughts leave his mind when she sits on his lap and smiles. It had been so long since she sat this way with him, making him feel all sweet inside. He wraps one arm around her back and one hand on her knees. The news she gives him makes him the happiest he has ever been. He feels he could conquer anything right about now.

"I want you to know that I love you, Booth."

"I know, Bren. Of course, I know. What's going on?" He had no qualms about it.

"I would never cheat on you, Booth. You are my home, my family. I would never spoil what we have, in any way."

"I know that, baby. I didn't doubt you for a second." He swears. He kisses her. "Let's get you home. You need your rest now."

"Are you going to fret over everything for the next few months?" she asks while getting off his lap.

"You can count on it." He smirks. She hopes he is kidding; not sure she could handle him pestering her about every detail.

He leads her out with a hand on her back, locks the club behind him. They spend the way home bantering over if they are going to have a boy or a girl and which color to choose for the nursery, never deciding on one.

They switch out of the clothes and settle in bed. They kiss for a long moment before pulling her against his chest.

She's grateful to end another day in his arms, for the life they share and for their family.
