Chapter 10: 1ST EXAM PASS OR FAIL!
SMACK!
A hand slammed down on the table, a body jumped up out of his seat, all eyes focused on him, a blazing determination in his eyes.
"DON'T UNDERESTIMATE ME I DON'T QUIT AND I DON'T RUN, YOU CAN ACT TOUGH ALL YOU WANT YOU GUYS WON'T SCARE ME OFF NO WAY...I DON'T CARE IF I DO GET STUCK AS A GENIN FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE..." this determined boy started leaking small traces of killing intent out not enough to choke anyone but enough to let them know he means business he voice darkened to get his point across "...I WILL STILL BECOME HOKAGE DATTEBAYO"
That boy's name is Uzumaki Naruto...
'Dobe...he makes looking like and idiot easy...hmm I wonder what the question is though this guy seems like he specializes in messing with people's heads' Sasuke thought as Naruto sat back down
Hinata smiled and blushed sitting next to her blonde teammate/crush his words of determination warming her heart and boosting her confidence this is the reason she had fallen for him, that and well she just thought those whisker marks make him even more adorable.
'What's the old saying never let em see ya sweat right' the blonde thought to himself
In the cage inside of the boy a certain orange fur'd house guest shook his head and commented "HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO KEEP UP THIS FACADE OF BEING AND IDIOT...BECAUSE I AM STARTING TO BELIEVE YOU ARE ONE"
'Did you just make a joke Kurama-sensei...while the being loud part is sort of an act I meant every word' he asked his teacher smirking inwardly
"PAY ATTENTION KIT THE SCARRED MAN IS ABOUT TO SPEAK" the Kyuubi no Yoko replied dodging the question
"The decision is one that could change your life if for any reason you would wanna quit now is your last chance" Ibiki
"Hmph..." Naruto scoffed "No way I never go back on my word that my Nindo my ninja way...your petty mind games wont work on me...Ibiki-san" he replied in a dangerously calm tone
Ibiki smirked 'This kid hmph he's amusing to watch...' the man looked around the room and noticed something 'Hmmm remarkable that little outburst has giving the others some back bone he's inspired them into staying...78 left more than I expected but I don't see anyone wavering I think that's it' Ibiki turned to his chunin sentinels and they all nodded "Well than I admire you determination if nothing else, for those remaining there's only one thing left to do and that is to tell you that you all passed the first exam."
A pregnant silence fell upon the entire room...not for long. Several of the remaining canidates begin shouting outbursts of 'what the fuck?' and 'what do you mean?'
Ibiki just smiled at this and settled them down, once that was done he explained the whole point to the entire. The test was designed to encourage cheating and to gauge their ability to gather information without being caught. This point peaked interests in several of the candidates who figured this point out like Sasuke who used his Sharingan to copy the hand movement of some one in front of him, Neji who used his byakugan to see through the person in front of him, Gaara who used his third eye to gather information, Kankuro who used his puppet hiding as one of the sentinels, Ino who used her Mind Transfer Jutsu on Sakura, and Naruto and the Sound genin all used the same type of trick to cheat using the sounds of someone who knew the answers as they wrote them down to match their pencil stroke for stroke. Ibiki continued to explain the true role of a chunin and value of gathering information correctly.
"...You have earned the right to continue on to the next step, you've passed through the first gate I hear by declare this part of the chunin selection exam completed... there's nothing more to do then to wish you good luck." Ibiki finished
"YEAH ALRIGHT!" Naruto yipped in excitement
'This kid is something else...huh' Ibiki thought sensing something coming toward them.
All of a sudden a slightly large round object crashed through the window, throwing out kunai from each end of the now opening cloth. Once they hit the ceiling and opened all the way it completely covered Ibiki.
'Jumped the gun as usual' the touture master thought
On the other side of the cloth stood someone who made Naruto, Takeru and even Sasuke sweatdrop. Hinata just giggled slightly.
"Heads up you maggots, this is no time to celebrate I'll be your next proctor Mitarashi Anko...ready for the next test LET'S GO!" the Hebi mistress yelled, pumping her fist in the air.
"You're early...again" Ibiki told her peeking his head from behind the tarp causing Anko to blush in slight embarrassment
"How many are there left, Ibiki you let this many pass your test was too easy you must be getting soft" she taunted
"Or it could be a stronger crop of candidates this year" Ibiki praised...slightly
"They sure don't look it hmmm before I'm done with them more than half will be eliminated" Anko told him loud enough for everyone to hear this caught everyone's attention "Things are gonna be different staring first thing in the morning I'll let your Jonin Sensei know where to send you...dismissed"
LATER THAT NIGHT
After announcing that they had passed the first exam, Maruya insisted that the boys invite their teams over or in Takeru's case his girlfriend for some snacks, one of those snacks being Cinnamon Rolls per Naruto's request. It would seem the boy was slowly trying to win over his pale white eyed teammate unaware that if that small percent of shyness wasn't still holding her back she would have been his already. The genins ate and enjoyed each other's company. Naruto explained how he overheard one of the chunin sentinels say something about the 2nd stage being an extreme survival test and that everyone should be prepared. Takeru walked Ino back home the two hand in hand. After going over more strategy Sasuke left and Naruto walked Hinata home.
Not to far from the Hyuga compound Naruto and Hinata were walking and engaged in small talk mostly Hinata thanking Naruto for the cinnamon roll, until something crossed Hinata's mind the earlier incident that morning. She stopped walking and held her hand to her heart. She didn't want to ask Naruto about it. He seemed so distant about...something, but she had to know.
"N...Naruto-kun?" she asked shyly
Naruto finally noticing she had stopped turned around with a big foxy grin but then noticed a sad look in her eyes "Yes what wrong Hinata-chan"
"I wanted...to thank you again for defending me...against Neji-niisan..."
Naruto scowled slightly at that name "Of course I'd do it all over again what's the deal with that jerk anyway is he really your brother...I thought you told me you only had a little sister"
"I do Neji...is my cousin and is part of the Branch family of the Hyuga...meaning he has a heavy dislike for the Main family" she said with her head down
Naruto didn't like seeing her like that and lifted her head up by her chin causing a blush to adorn her cheeks. "That stupid why are there two side to a family when you're all of the same blood shouldnt you be one big family."
Hinata smiled slightly at Naruto and shook her head "It is...complicated Naruto-kun"
"Well ok but like I said he has no reason to call you weak you're the strongest Kunoichi I know and I'm proud to fight by your side and he may not act like it but I know Sasuke teme is too" he smiled finally releasing her chin from his soft grip
Hinata smiled and giggled "Naruto-kun that's not nice to say about Sasuke-san..." he smile faded a bit "...ummm Naruto-kun c...can I ask you something?"
This had Naruto on edge a little bit and he had a feeling where this was going.
"W...why did your...eyes turn red when y...you attacked Neji? Hinata asked afraid that he would hate her for asking
'I knew she'd ask...what would she think if I told her...' Naruto paused thinking to himself forgetting that his thought could still be heard
"BAKA NOT THAT I CARE BOY BUT JUST TELL HER THE TRUTH..." Kurama called out to his host "IF THIS GIRL IS TRULY YOUR TEAMMATE AND FRIEND SHE WILL NOT THINK ANY LESS OF YOU...WITH THIS ONE I DON'T THINK THAT IS ACTUALLY EVEN POSSIBLE SHE ADMIRES YOU GREATLY FOR YOUR SO CALLED DETERMINATION WHAT ELSE SHE SEES IN YOU I JUST WONT UNDERSTAND" he finished mocking his blonde host
Naruto thought about for a second he knew she liked him and he had slowly begun to see her in a new light, maybe having someone else he trusts besides Takeru and his family know about the Kyuubi wouldn't be all bad...but then the thought hit him dropping a bomb like this on someone before a big event in this case the 2nd stage of the Chunin Exams might unnerve them...so maybe not right now.
Hinata waited in silence. She was berating herself for making Naruto suffer in telling her something important and was about to speak...
Naruto grabbed her hands and pulled her close "Hinata...I want to tell you honestly I do...but I...I cant right now once the chunin exams are over I promise that I will tell you everything"
"Naruto-kun..." Hinata sighed feeling slightly bold. She took one hand away from Naruto and caressed his cheek, accidently rubbing his whiskers and causing him to purr and moan. Hinata blushed and stored this knowledge away for a later date regaining her composure quickly she spoke. "Ok N...Naruto-kun it c...can wait" she smiled.
The two genin finished their short walk to the Hyuga Compound in a calm silence, once there Naruto stopped and reassured Hinata that everything will be alright and that soon they will become chunins. With a smile on her face Hinata opened the doors and went inside, once Naruto knew she was out of hearing distance he closed his eyes and sighed.
"I know you are there behind the tree please come out." Naruto said turning around to face a tree he passed walking Hinata home
A tall pale man with long hair wearing a long white robe with a green open jacket on top of it. The man stood firm and proper, his pure white eyes glancing down at the blond boy before him.
"Your sensory skill is...impressive Uzumaki-san" he said in a monotone voice
Naruto smirked "As it should be my sense of smell is 10 times better than Kakashi-sensei or the Inuzuka Clan for that matter..." his smirk turned to a serious face "let's cut the bull if you will Hyuga-sama I am aware that you do not like me or the fact that your eldest daughter is on the same team as me...I have no problem with that over the years i've become used to the people of this village and their hatred toward me for my...guest."
Hiashi remained stoic as ever, indicating that he was listening.
"However I can assure you that my being on the same team as your child has not infected her with demonic traits or whatever it is you PEOPLE think I do as a demon if anything I have have seen your daughter blossom and become strong in fact Hiashi-sama..." he paused letting the venom in his words sink deep into the man "I can say that underestimating your daughters strength is a fools mistake one that I certainly would not make, when this exam is over you will see just what I mean if you do not truly need anything from me I wish to retire as I have a 2nd Chunin exam to pass with my team tomorrow good night Hiashi-sama" finishing a with a small bow the boy began to walk away.
"Oh and by the way I would ask you to tell your branch member Hyuga Neji to watch his mouth around me concerning Hinata-chan or else next time there will be nothing to stop me...FROM TEARING HIM APART" Naruto finished and made his way towards home
Hiashi stood there motionless 'That boy...hmmm could it be possible that he speaks the truth...hmm and what was that pure killing intent I felt just now could he have been influenced by the Kyuubi or maybe...hmm this Uzumaki Naruto there is more to him then we know...' finally he made his way inside to retire for the night.
