No Mind Vs. No Mercy
Day 2: Friday, 17 May, 1:27 pm.
"Hello again. It's day 2 and after assessing my reports from both patients, I have gained excessive amounts of knowledge, seeing as though I need to because my next patient is one that requires my utmost caution. To give you a run down about Billy Boswell, he's a psychopath with three psychological disorders: Mania, Schizophrenia, and Schizoid Personality Disorder. On top of all that, he also has Alexithymia, the capability of understanding someone to an emotional and psychological level. He was administrated to the hospital about ten years ago under a life sentence due to him being convicted for several crimes that were described as, "In-humane". Apparently, he was responsible for the body count of fifty individuals. They were composed of half men and women but the interesting part was that he victimized over seventy people and let them live so that they could spread the word about him. How he came to this was less tragic than most realize but just as horrific. Before he was born, his family wasn't exactly the most loving or caring. His father was an alcoholic and his mother had both depression and Tourette syndrome; they even had a family history of mental illnesses and disorders from relatives, so it wasn't a random chance that the son would turn out mentally unstable but no one predicted him to go this far. He was a problem child from the start, his first incident happened in elementary school where he began to show signs of mental oddities and acts of excessive violence. From then on, he only got worse and worse, even his own parents couldn't handle him and that's when he decided to become a monster, by killing his family at the age of ten. It wasn't until a fateful day when he was captured by the police, that he was finally sentenced to jail and later to Dawn Valley Sanatorium, at the age of twenty-six. Apparently, one of his held hostages escaped and left a scar on his back while the hostage managed to escape the building that he was in and informed the police of his whereabouts. Because of his mental illnesses, he is often unstable between his personalities and how he processes things or people in his version of normal. Hold on, have to switch between tapes, this recording is getting too long."
Two minutes later
"Now back to the subject at hand. Billy is an interesting individual, from what I heard from his, living, victims and from his practices towards killing people and from what we've gathered thus for from his time in the Sanatorium. It seems that his personality is often described as a "calm indusial" with no malicious intent. If only an ignorant fool knew what true intentions lie behind those outer layers. When he's not killing someone, he is often calm and relaxed but suffers from hallucination, which he states and I quote, "The visions I see help calm my nerves and bring new delight to my life, an obvious sigh that whenever I'm seeking excitement, my life provides it in the most unexpected ways.", end quote. Nothing more but images that invoke calmness and excitement, from what I can gather. Though there's more about him on the many files I read about him, I should interview him, so I can get the best results in person. However, I have been told that I must take precautions when interviewing him. To put it simply, he likes to toy with his doctors and causes them to feel psychological damage from a small conversation. It's a good thing that I was prepared."
Day 2: Friday, 17 of May, 3:11 pm
"Hello their Minster Boswell, I'm Doctor Marcus Angevin." Said the doctor.
"Why hello their good doctor. Are you here to have a friendly chat with me?" said Billy in a joyfully but calm tone.
"Yes. I've also here to inform you that I will be your permeant doctor, should circumstances let me." Said the doctor.
"Well, isn't that a wonder? Tell me, why do you wish to… help those who are like me or close to me? Why do you help the unstable?" said Billy
"Simple. Like the philosophical ball of yarn into a tangle up knot, I wish to unravel one's mind so that I can understand them better." Said the doctor.
"Oh, curiosity. Not the safest ways of living one's life, you know." Said Billy.
"No, rather, being a detective of the mind. I'm just solving the patterns of one's behavior and uncovering the clues and pieces that lead to solving the mystery of one's own psyche." Said the doctor.
"In essence, they're both the same." Said Billy.
"Right, yes. Now, I was hoping that you and I could discuss your psychological state of mind and about the many murders you've committed when you were a murder." Said the doctor.
"Don't you already have a report about me?" said Billy.
"Yes, but, I believe that it's better to experience or obtain knowledge from the source than to get it from others." Said the doctor.
"I admire your commitment doctor. Very well, let's begin." Said Billy.
"Now, tell me about your past experiences with the many people you've murdered. I want to know why you did it and how you did it." Said the doctor.
"That's simple. You see, if you haven't already known, I was born different from my mental illnesses and soon began to act upon them in the most violent ways. The reason why I choose this route and the route that caused me to kill my mother and father was because it gave me peace of mind and an understanding of others around me." Said Billy.
"So, in your chase, a sense of liberation from stress and worry and a better insight into the workings of one's own behavior and thoughts, correct?" Said the doctor.
"No wonder why you were the top in class, you always seem to look at the obvious answers within a web of madness. To answer your assessment, yes. Life for me was a bore and filled with so much anguish, but I found a solution to all of that by letting go of my negative impulses and being free to all of the many virtues of life, that also includes my many psychological gifts." Said Billy.
"Interesting, go on." Said the doctor.
"Well, I guess we should move on to the killings, I bet you're wondering about them and why I began after my family. Well, it was simply because I felt this strange sense of curiosity myself. You see, after my family's death, by my own hands, I got to witness their raw and untainted emotions I got to see the working of man in true terror and provoked aggression. In short, I got to see the nature of man at their worst and get to know them better." Said Billy.
"You see, my afflictions showed me the many faces of my emotions and personalities in its rawest and uncontrollable state, I even can act upon them when needed, but I wanted those emotions to be expressed on to others since I was already aware of my own. Just like you said doctor, I'm just solving the puzzle of that yarn ball, just knowing where the thread will take you and if you can unwind it to its core." Said Billy.
"True. I did say that but, your method is less humane more towards the act of interest of pleasure and personal enjoyment of others' misery and misfortune. In other words, you just enjoy uncovering what makes someone tick by pushing them to the edge." Said the doctor.
"To a self-secure individual, yes, but for someone willing to seek knowledge and achieve what others say is impossible, then that's what I enjoy doing. Is that so wrong? I mean, we've done a lot of horrible things for the name of science and humanity and when did they have to pay the price. Abortions, vaccines, stem cell replacements, even basic living under the government's control are sponged out of the people's account and not theirs. All for the sake of control and a false sense of liberal perseveration." Said Billy.
"Thank you for your viewing of society's less than positive view. One of the major subjects that I want to discuss is your methods of murder towards the many victims you've harmed. I've been informed that you have a particular way of doing things, may you enlighten me of those methods. "said the doctor.
"Certainly. It's no surprise that I have committed several heinous crimes towards my insatiable hunger for entertainment but what the public doesn't know is the ways of how I got most of my victims to show me their truest selves. Though I have a very elaborate and complicated dynamic, I usually had to only use a three-step plan to break most of my victims and the results were satisfying." Said Billy.
"The first method was the simple game of psychological trivia. This is where I place two people in spate rooms but have them play a scenario where the two must pick which is greater than the other. For example, should we be given a choice between money or love, we would pick which we want and this is possible because I place a piece of art that represents a close resemblance of what one of the choices is. Now, if one of us gets the answer wrong, that person gets electrocuted but the game was never about the picture, it was about whether or not the person was honest to themselves about the concept that they were given. Each choice was a reflection upon what they enjoy the most." Said Billy.
"The next method is one of my favorites, I call it, "Survival of The Inelegance". It's just your simple arena type survival where I place six or ten people and they have either let one person… Go, so that the rest would live or, they will have to fight, so that their lives wouldn't have to be sacrificed for the sake of others and there can only be one survivor." Said Billy.
"If it's a game of survival, why would you call it, "Survival of the Inelegance". Does it mean that this is a trial for those who possess a level head or is it that the game was never about death but about self-sacrifice and humanity, at its worst.?" Said the doctor.
"As always, you seem to catch on quick. Yes, the game on the surface may seem like a simple free for all, if the players don't go with the first option but, the true purpose was to see if any of the participants would have any symbolism of a heart and forfeit their life for the lives of others. In the game, I placed several weapons and placed the cryptic message and most of the time, the participants never really know if the sacrifice will die or not but they either forced one of them to die, began to fight for their own survival, or someone volunteered to go. But let's say one person did go and the rest stayed behind, that person would actually be free and the rest will still be trapped and play the same game. A sad cycle that is often passed on until the remnants of the first finally die out or choose to become a sacrifice for others. Before I tell you how to beat this game with all members in the game, I want you to hear a quote that I made that methodically represents the true nature of this game." Said Billy.
"Fine then, let's hear it." Said the doctor.
"It goes something like this, "A cycle for many is an endless journey that is composed of the same actions but with different situations and people, but no matter what comes your way, you often make the same mistake by repeating what you've done before to what is happening now. To end a cycle, you must change your action by changing who you are as a person." A nice but simple understanding, no?" said Billy.
"It is. I can understand that this game causes people to think about themselves, even if you've changed it to where only one person can leave and the rest will die, but that wouldn't change the outcome. This game requires people to change how they place their value towards themselves and places them towards a situation that either keeps them in limbo or lets them go the easy way or the simple way. A sad but true example of how we, as humans, often throw away the lives of others, so that we can live but we refuse to change a cycle that is often shrouded in mystery and/or ruins but forces it onto others." Said the doctor.
"Quite true. It's hard to let go of one's own desires or wanting to help others when you know that you will die in the process. But that's why I started those games, to understand how people will react and what they did, as a result of those situations and the results weren't half bad. Also, the simple way of beating that game was by getting everyone to go and sacrifice themselves by entering a room in the area. The rule never was applied just for one person and even if it did, what sensible person would stick to the same torture if they were brought back to the same spot." Said Billy.
"But that would only apply if the group was either that willing to forfeit their lives as well or if someone truly understood the simplicity of the game, meaning, the game requires you to think inside the box and try not over complicate things." Said the doctor.
"I know but the participants always try to think of the worst case, due to having that mentality of fearing death and the unknown but that's why this game makes you face it. This game covers whether or not you have both the intellect to know the hints or clues on how to beat the game and to see if you yourself have the courage to back up what you mean." Said Billy.
"As inhumane as these games are, they do help me understand your mind towards what you hope to understand from others suffering. Tell, me what is your last game, I know you stated you had five games to play but prefer these three, what is the last one you force others to participate." Said the doctor.
"Yes, the last game is simple but, it allows me to understand my victims more clearly than the last two games. The game I play with them is a simple hunt or be hunted type where I hunt them and they try to survive for at least twenty-four hours." Said Billy.
"How does this game allow you to understand your victims more clearly?" said the doctor.
"Simple. I first tell the participant that they will be hunted by me and that they can either fight back or try to last the whole game by surviving for twenty-four hours and when time is up, I will let them go." Said Billy.
"Do you mean that grantee?" said the doctor.
"Yes. I may have no mercy but I do hold up to my promises," said Billy.
"Very well, continue." Said the doctor.
"So, the game takes place in a secluded forest or an abandoned strip mall, which everyone I choose, the participant is allowed to roam the area but cannot leave, he/she can fight back and use weapons they either find or make, they can either think ahead and build traps or try to wait it out in a secluded part of that area and move around a bit to up their chances. Pretty much, they can do anything to survive but I won't make it easy for them," said Billy.
"The reason why this game allows me to get more insight is that I can see their terrors first hand. I often see what they do in a short period of time, though, to be honest, I cheated a bit. Because I chose where we could hunt, I know where every location is and where the target might be. Regardless, I witness each participant with open eyes and see what their game plan is or what their initial reactions when being placed in this game." Said Billy.
"What do you see when you hunt down these participants and can you tell about them from this encounter?" said the doctor.
"If only you know, well, you kind of do because you work here but never to my degree. I get to see the many expressions of cowardness and fear, I got to see the dreadful experience that the targets had to endure, their actions and terrified discussions, all of it was displayed when I played this game with them." Said Billy.
"I toy with them and set paranoia within the grounds, causing them to lose both hope and peace, then I study their moves and exploit their weaknesses by revealing past experiences, either good or bad, and then I good for the kill. Not a single soul has managed to beat me and has ever lived to tell the tale." Said Billy.
"And this power that you have? Your ability to see into one's emotional and traumatized experience." Said the doctor.
"Oh, that little trick, well, it was an unexpected gift that I acquired when I killed my parents. Unexpected but handy." Said Billy.
"Is it handy?" said the doctor.
"Yes." Said Billy.
"If you can tell what someone's personal experiences towards an emotional and psychological level, why do all these killings and acts of violence?" said the doctor.
"Is because I want to know more about someone in their current state and what will they do. It's boring being simple and there's no true discovery towards results if we don't push forward. That's why it's helpful when using it to know bits and pieces about someone on the spot." Said Billy.
"Right, now, on the next top-." Said the doctor before he was cut off.
"Before I continue, may I ask a question." Said Billy.
"Of course." Said the doctor.
"I've been here for several years and heard the news from outside this facility, but I soon got word of someone special that was administrated here. So, my question is, what is so special about this new inmate?" said Billy.
"I'm not sure how you know about this but I can't tell you anything abou-." said the doctor before he was interrupted again.
"I know doctor. But from your sudden expression, I can tell that you met with him and had a chat with him, as well. From what I gathered from you about him, I can tell that he's an odd one. I sense a strain of remorse but a sense of concern, I wonder what this man is capable of and what his story is." Said Billy.
"After our conversation, I feel this unbearable sense of paranoia. It was as if I was a deer being tagged by a hunter and they were figuring out my every single move, but their true target was never me, I was just there for him to see if I could tell him about my surroundings. I fear for Tony's sake and the rest in the facility."
End of Day 2.
