Once Upon a Time in Enchancia

Welcome to Chapter 52 of "Once Upon a Time in Enchancia".

Chapter 52: Gatherings

April 24, 1870

At Enchancia Castle, Violet, Dorrie, and Candice had returned. As they passed by the castle sitting room, they noticed activity inside.

"What in Heaven's name is going on here?" Violet asked, taken off guard.

"Elizabeth had a dream at Aunt Louisa and Uncle Alexander's about the past on the Mystic Isles," James explained.

"And I'm going to verify if what her dream states is true or not, using my looking back glass," Calista happily added.

"Can we sit in?" Dorrie asked, hopeful.

"Of course," Calista smiled. "You'd be most welcome."

In a few minutes, Marcy, Sir Maxwell, and ten-year-old Elizabeth walked in.

"My looking back glass is ready for you," Calista announced. "When we step through, we'll be able to see what happened in the past. When we're there, we'll be observers, with nobody around us knowing we're there."

Everybody nodded in understanding as Calista, Marcy, Sir Maxwell, Elizabeth, James, Violet, Dorrie, and Candice walked into the looking back glass. They emerged in the far past of the Mystic Isles. As they looked around, they noticed they were in the throne room in the palace on the Isle of Angels. Gathered in the throne room were King Maximilian of the Isle of Angels (Sir Maxwell in a past life), Queen Marcia of the Isle of Angels (Marcy in a past life), Princess Alise of the Isle of Angels (Elizabeth in a past life), Jonas (James in a past life), Lucas (Kirk Winston in a past life), Princess Doreen of the Isle of Witches (Dorrie in a past life), Princess Calantha of the Isle of Witches (Candice in a past life), and Herald Shi (Prince Jin of Weiling in a past life).

"And Kai-Li said you attacked him just after he had told you that you were to be partners in the acrobatics competition in the Mystic Isle games!" Maximilian barked at Alise, Doreen, Calantha, Lucas, and Jonas.

"Games?" Alise, Doreen, Calantha, Lucas, and Jonas asked in shock.

"You and Kai-Li could have won that event, it would have been a perfect union," Marcia said to Alise.

"There's no wedding?" Jonas asked, taken off guard.

"Wedding?" Marcia wanted to know, not sure what Jonas was talking about.

"Of course there's no wedding! Where did I get such an idea?" Jonas responded as he gave Lucas an I'm sorry look.

At that moment, a male palace servant walked up to Herald Shi, and whispered something in the herald's ear.

"Report, Herald," Maximilian requested.

"The Isle of Wind Walkers! It has declared war on the Isle of Angels!" Herald Shi reported.

"We have to stop this! You take care of Doreen, Calantha, and Jonas!" Alise instructed Lucas.

"Be careful, Alise!" Lucas wished as Alise flew off.

In a little while, Alise found herself flying over the Wind Walker troops gathering near the Isle of Angels. Alise then saw Prince Kai-Li of the Wind Walkers (Prince Chang-Kai of Wuton in a past life). Alise silently landed behind Kai-Li, and tapped him on the shoulder.

"You?! Here?!" Kai-Li exclaimed in shock.

"Kai-Li, it was all a terrible misunderstanding! I apologize! Now stop this silly war before someone gets hurt!" Alise demanded.

"Come with me," Kai-Li directed as he and Alise flew to the Wind Walker king. Unknown to the two, Lucas was watching from a distance. Lucas then ran to where King Maximilian, Queen Marcia, Jonas, Doreen, Calantha, and Herald Shi were standing.

"It's Alise! Kai-Li's captured her!" Lucas reported. Lucas then flew off into the battlefield.

"Lucas! Come back!" Doreen shouted, but it was too late. One of the Wind Walkers grabbed Lucas from the air, and threw Lucas to the ground, injuring Lucas in the process.

"Lucas!" Marcia cried out in fear.

Elsewhere on the battlefield, Alise and Kai-Li flew up to Kai-Li's father.

"Stop the bombing!" Kai-Li ordered as Alise flew back to where Lucas was laying. King Maximilian picked up Lucas and cradled him

"Lucas," Alise sobbed.

"Alise ... you can't go away ..." Lucas said, half dazed. "Can't go away ... can't go away ... can't go away..."

Lucas then lost consciousness and started having a dream. In the dream, Lucas returned to the palace on the Isle of Angels.

"What's wrong with everyone?" Lucas wanted to know.

Jonas woke up from the chair he was sleeping in, and stretched: "Oh, Lucas, why have you bothered to return to the Isle of Angels? Since Alise left, this place has been no fun at all! There's no dancing, no singing, and Warrior Merprincess Jadyn ... has gone off the deep end as it were."

"I'm going to find Alise and bring her back!" Lucas announced.

"Hang it up, Lucas. Alise is never coming back! Never coming back!" Jonas warned.

As Lucas flew off, he cried out, "Alise! Alise! Alise!"

Things started becoming blurry. In a few moments, Lucas slowly awoke from the dream he was having. He was laying in his room in the palace.

"Can't go away ..." Lucas quietly said. "Can't go away ... can't go away ... can't go away ..."

"I'm not going away, don't worry, Lucas," Alise said reassuringly.

"Alise?" Lucas asked, not believing that Alise was there.

As Alise and Lucas hugged, everybody else was in the throne room of the palace.

"Our kitchen boy was only stunned," King Maximilian reported about Lucas.

"Perhaps peace between us is not a bad idea, Troy," Marcia suggested to Kai-Li's father.

"Agreed, and war is a bad idea," Kai-Li's father acknowledged as Alise walked in.

"How is Lucas?" Maximilian wanted to know.

"He's resting," Alise answered.

"That's good to hear," Marcia smiled.

"Maybe we can be partners after all," Kai-Li suggested to Alise.

"Maybe, in the Mystic Isle Games!" Alise happily accepted.

The scene then jumped ahead to the Mystic Isle Games where Alise and Kai-Li won the acrobatics competition. Suddenly, a bright light surrounded Calista, Marcy, Sir Maxwell, Elizabeth, James, Violet, Dorrie, and Candice, and the eight then found themselves back in the Enchancia Castle sitting room.

"Wow!" Elizabeth exclaimed in awe.

"Looks like we were all friends even back then," Candice said to Elizabeth as Candice gave Elizabeth a gentle hug.

Everybody smiled at the touching scene.

May 7, 1870

Personal diary entry of Dorrie Cosmarune-Cooper (May 7, 1870).

Everybody at Enchancia Castle is getting ready for Mother's Day which is tomorrow. Timothy and Amy are planning a Mother's Day breakfast for Gwen. Abby is planning a Mother's Day breakfast for Dawn, while Molly and Nonya are planning a special Mother's Day outing for Eileen. Marie is planning a Mother's Day picnic for Suzette, and Elizabeth is planning a Mother's Day picnic for Marcy. Oona is returning to Merroway Cove for the day to be with Queen Emmaline. And Cordelia is coming to the castle to spend the day with Calista. As for me and Candice, since we have access to a Tardis, we have something special planned for Mom - a special dinner on the planet Darillium at the restaurant next to the Singing Towers.

Meanwhile, Amber, James, Sofia, and Lucinda are planning a grand Mother's Day picnic for Queen Miranda. Candice tells me that Lucinda is looking at this Mother's Day as a chance to make up for the Mother's Day when her birth mother tried to hex the royal family.

May 8, 1870

It was Mother's Day morning. In the courtyard in front of Enchancia Castle, a large royal carriage stood waiting. In a few moments, Miranda, Amber, James, and Sofia walked out to the carriage.

"Where's Lucinda?" Miranda wondered.

"Coming," Lucinda announced as she raced out of the castle with a large picnic basket.

"What's this?" Miranda asked in awe.

"I baked all of us a chocolate cake, Mom," Lucinda smiled.

"Thank you, Lucinda," Miranda smiled back as Baileywick placed the basket in a compartment behind the carriage.

As everybody climbed aboard the carriage, Amber took Lucinda aside.

"I didn't know you could cook," Amber whispered.

"Dorrie, Candice, and Abby taught me," Lucinda whispered. "They say I've become quite a good pastry chef."

"Well, then," Amber whispered with a smile. "We're truly in for a treat."

Amber and Lucinda climbed onto the carriage. Baileywick then climbed onto the carriage, sitting next to the carriage driver. The carriage then made its way off the castle grounds.

"We're going to have a wonderful time!" Amber cheerfully announced.

"I'm glad we're all together on this wonderful day," Sofia happily added.

"And I'm glad to have all my children together with me," Miranda smiled. "But, I can hardly call you children anymore. You've all grown into fine teenagers."

Amber, James, Sofia, and Lucinda smiled at Miranda's praise. Amber then started going through her purse.

"Ah!" Amber cried out in joy. "Here are our Mother's Day cards for you."

As Amber handed the cards to Miranda, a glint of silver shined from Amber's purse.

"Nice pocket watch, Amber," Lucinda noticed.

"Oh, this old thing?" Amber remarked. "Something I found on a shopping trip."

"And what does the V stand for?" Lucinda asked, curious.

"Some kind of maker's mark, I'd imagine," Amber answered as she closed her purse as Miranda looked at the scene.

"Oh, my!" Miranda thought to herself. "Was that ... an Omni?"

In a little while, the carriage started approaching a body of water.

"No boats!" Lucinda thought to herself in worry. "No boats! No boats!"

As the carriage passed by the body of water, still on its way to its destination, Lucinda relaxed.

"Thank God!" Lucinda thought to herself in relief. "I don't want a repeat of what happened a few years ago during our Mother's Day hex-a-thon."

"You all right, Lucinda?" Miranda asked, concerned.

"Yes, Mom," Lucinda answered, forcing a smile.

The carriage continued on its way. Before long, the carriage approached Juneberry Island.

"Juneberry Island?!" Lucinda thought to herself in a panic. "Not Juneberry Island! I want this day to be perfect, not a reminder of the past!"

"Ah!" James called out. "Juneberry Island. That means we're halfway to our destination."

"Then we're not going to Juneberry Island?" Lucinda asked, hopeful.

"Nope," James smiled. "Although, it might have been fun to have the island float again."

"Ha ha ... ha ha ha," Lucinda laughed, nervous.

"You sure you're okay, Lucy?" Sofia asked, concerned.

"I'm fine, Sof," Lucinda reassured Sofia. "I'm just looking forward to getting our Mother's Day celebration underway."

In a little while, the carriage reached a huge field with loads of sunflowers. In the distance were some hills.

"We're here," James announced. "Sunflower Valley!"

"Oh, James!" Miranda exclaimed, impressed. "It's beautiful."

"James and I thought this would be the perfect place for a perfect Mother's Day picnic," Amber smiled.

"The two of you did a good job in picking out this place," Sofia happily approved.

"Indeed," Lucinda agreed with a smile.

Baileywick and the carriage driver found a spot that did not have any sunflowers and started laying out the picnic blanket and the food.

"This is so wonderful!" Miranda remarked, pleased, as she, Amber, James, Sofia, and Lucinda sat down.

"Sofia took care of making the sandwiches, and thanks to Lucinda, we have a nice cake, too," Amber proudly announced. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, Amber," Sofia smiled.

"Anytime," Lucinda happily added. Lucinda then saw out of the corner of her eye a witch coming in on a broom, with her wand raised. "Oh no, you don't!" Lucinda barked.

Before the witch knew it, Lucinda drew her wand and fired off a warning blast. The witch swerved her broom to avoid the blast.

"Blast it!" the witch yelled in anger. "How am I suppose to hex people with somebody firing at me!"

"That's the idea!" Lucinda yelled back. "As a royal sorceress of Enchancia, I order you to leave immediately!"

The witch, having heard Lucinda, quickly sped off in fright.

"Oh, great!" Lucinda said in disgust. "A wonderful Mother's Day ruined. And I so wanted to make up for that time my birth mom tried hexing all of you. I wanted this day to be extra special."

"It still is," Miranda reassured Lucinda. "We're all here together, and we have all kinds of wonderful food to enjoy."

"I feel bad about what happened a few years ago," Lucinda explained. "I want to apologize for that day."

"That's not necessary," Miranda smiled as she gently held Lucinda's hand. "That's in the past, and you and your mother made up for it a long time ago. As far as I'm concerned, it's forgotten about."

"Thank you, Mom," Lucinda said, relieved. "I love you."

"And I love you, too ... all of you," Miranda said as she hugged Lucinda.

Amber, James, Sofia, Baileywick, and the carriage driver smiled at the touching scene. Everybody had a fine time enjoying the food. Soon, it was time for dessert and Lucinda's chocolate cake.

"This is delicious, Lucinda," Miranda praised.

"The best chocolate cake I've ever eaten," Sofia smiled.

"You did a good job on this," Amber happily said.

"Brilliant!" James exclaimed in approval.

Lucinda smiled at the praise being directed toward her.

The planet Darillium

The First Story Keeper's Tardis materialized in the lobby of a huge, very fancy restaurant on the planet of Darillium. As Dorrie, Candice, and Violet walked out of the Tardis, a black-skinned human woman walked up to them.

"Ah!" the woman smiled. "The Coopers. Party of three. Your table is ready. This way, ladies."

"Do we have a good table?" Dorrie asked.

"The finest in all the galaxy, ma'am," the woman responded.

The woman led Violet, Dorrie, and Candice to the restaurant balcony. As they walked out onto the balcony, they noticed two tall, very impressive stone towers standing a distance away in the night sky.

"Those are our Singing Towers," the woman explained with pride. "They've been here for millions of years, through storms and floods and wars and time. Nobody really understands where the music comes from. It's probably something to do with the precise positions, the distance between both towers. Even we who live here aren't sure. All anyone knows is that when the wind stands fair and the night is perfect ... there is a song."

"Impressive!" Violet said in awe.

"Your menus are on the table," the woman smiled. "I'll be back in a little bit to take your orders."

Violet, Dorrie, and Candice sat down and started going through their menus.

"This dinner must be costing you a fortune," Violet theorized.

"You're worth every penny," Candice smiled.

"As for the cost, its taken care of," Dorrie explained. "The beauty of having a Tardis is that you can set up a bank account a few decades in the past. Now, in the present, thanks to interest, there's more than enough for tonight's meal."

"I'm so blessed having the two of you," Violet said with pride. "You make a mother proud."

Dorrie and Candice smiled at Violet's praise.

In a little bit, the woman returned and took Violet, Dorrie, and Candice's orders. A little bit after that, their meals arrived. As Violet, Dorrie, and Candice were eating, the wind started to blow against the Singing Towers. In a few moments, the wind caused the Singing Towers to vibrate, emitting a musical tone in the process. Violet, Dorrie, and Candice sat in awe listening to the musical vibrations being emitted by the Singing Towers.

"That was wonderfully nice," Violet joyfully said as the wind died down, and the musical vibrations came to an end. "This has to be the finest Mother's Day I've ever had. Thank you."

"You're welcome," Dorrie and Candice happily acknowledged.

Violet, Dorrie, and Candice continued eating, having a pleasant conversation as they ate. It was a wonderful way to spend an evening.

May 8, 1870

Back at Sunflower Valley, the Mother's Day picnic was just wrapping up. As everything was being packed up, Lucinda snuck off and ducked behind a bush. Lucinda then brought out her wand, waved it over her head, and disappeared in a puff of smoke. She reappeared a few miles away and looked around. As she expected, the witch who had tried to hex them was still flying around, looking for targets of opportunity.

Lucinda was holding a closed bottle of soda in her hand. She shook the bottle, then laid it down on the ground in such a way that the sunlight reflected off of it. As Lucinda hid behind a large boulder, the sunlight reflecting off the soda bottle caught the attention of the witch. The witch flew over and inspected the bottle.

"Ah!" the witch smiled in glee. "Some stupid Muggle left their soda behind. Well, it's mine now."

The witch opened the bottle, only to have the soda inside fly out and hit her full blast in the face.

"Rat's breath!" the witch shouted in anger as soda dripped from all over her. "What a day I'm having!"

As the witch mounted her broom and flew off, Lucinda sat behind the boulder giggling her guts out. "That will teach that hexing witch."

"Hey! Lucy! That was a good one," a female voice came from behind Lucinda.

Lucinda looked behind her to see Sofia standing there with a grin on her face.

"Oh, my!" Lucinda exclaimed, taken off guard. "I'm busted."

"Don't worry about it," Sofia said in a reassuring tone.

"Then you're not mad?" Lucinda asked, nervous.

"For giving me the best laugh I've had in a long time?" Sofia grinned. "No."

"It was good, wasn't it?" Lucinda joked.

"Yes," Sofia laughed.

Back at the picnic site, Miranda gently took Amber aside.

"Amber," Miranda started. "I think it would be nice if the two of us got together and hung out at some point."

"I'd like that, Mother," Amber happily agreed.

"Good," Miranda smiled. "We'll make arrangements to have some alone time when we get back to the castle."

At that moment, Baileywick walked up. "We're almost ready to return to the castle, Queen Miranda," Baileywick reported. "We're just waiting for Princess Sofia and Princess Lucinda to return from wherever they went to."

"We're right here," Sofia called out as she and Lucinda walked up. "Lucy was showing me some herbs she found growing over there. We picked some for future magical use."

"Excellent," Miranda happily acknowledged.

"Did you have a good day, Mom?" Sofia wanted to know.

"I had an excellent day, thanks to all of you," Miranda smiled.

Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and James smiled at the praise.

Later that afternoon

At Enchancia Castle, Miranda was sitting in her study when a knock came at the door.

"Come in," Miranda invited.

The door opened, and in walked Amber.

"Oh, good," Miranda smiled. "You're here. Please close the door, and sit down."

"Thank you, Mother," Amber smiled back.

"How have you been doing, Amber?" Miranda wanted to know.

"I've been doing fine, Mother," Amber answered. "How have you been doing?"

"I've been doing well," Miranda responded. "Amber, there's another reason I wanted to get together with you."

"And what would that be, Mother?" Amber asked, curious.

"This morning in the carriage, when you opened your purse, I saw your silver pocket watch thing," Miranda started. "I didn't know you had gotten to a point where you earned yourself an Onmi."

"What?!" Amber responded in shock.

"It's all right, Amber," Miranda said in a reassuring voice. "I know that you've been in training to be a Voyager."

"How?!" Amber asked, taken off guard.

"Violet told me," Miranda revealed. "I'm a mother. She's a mother. She felt honor-bound to tell me. It's a mother thing."

"I should have known," Amber said as she leaned back in her chair. "Then you know how that all came about?"

"Yes, I do," Miranda acknowledged. "Not exactly the best thing to do, sneaking up behind Candice and hitching a ride."

"It was wrong of me," Amber admitted. "And, I regret it deeply."

"You grew as a result, and that's the important thing," Miranda smiled.

"Just how much do you know?" Amber inquired, curious.

"Violet has been giving me regular updates," Miranda explained. "She says you're advancing in your training. But I didn't realize you had advanced to a point to have your own Omni."

"It just happened two days ago," Amber revealed. "I guess with all the preparations for Mother's Day, Violet didn't have a chance to tell you yet."

"Understandable," Miranda acknowledged with a smile. "So, what does this mean for your Voyager future?"

"Right now, I'm an Auxiliary Voyager, like Dorrie and Candice," Amber started. "With additional training, I'll eventually be a Voyager in Residence assigned to this time period, like Violet is."

"Voyager in Residence?" Miranda asked, not knowing the term.

"Voyager Command has changed the term Guardian Voyager to Voyager in Residence," Amber answered. "Voyager Command thought the new term more accurately described the duties of Voyagers like Violet."

"It has a nice ring to it ... Voyager in Residence," Miranda said, impressed. "I just hope you're being careful with your trips. I realize traveling to certain time periods can be dangerous."

"I'm fine, Mother," Amber said in a reassuring voice. "As long as I avoid 1867, 1918, and from the end of 2019 into 2020, everything will be fine."

"What is with those years?" Miranda wanted to know.

"Years in which great illnesses occurred," Amber answered. "The illness that spread across Enchancia and other kingdoms in 1867, the Spanish Flu of 1918, and the Coronavirus of late 2019 into 2020. Voyagers aren't allowed to go to those years unless they have taken a special pill first that protects them from such illnesses."

"A wise precaution," Miranda agreed. "But, enough about shop talk as it were. How are you in the here and now, Amber?"

"I'm doing fine, Mother," Amber smiled. "Life is good, and I'm alive ... in more ways than one."

"I've noticed," Miranda smiled back. "You're getting out of the castle more and more, and visiting the surrounding villages. I hear the people love having you visit."

"They do?" Amber asked with a mix of surprise and awe.

"Oh, yes," Miranda proudly confirmed as she gently put her hand on Amber's shoulder. "I hear things, like what a fine young woman you're becoming. How you take an interest in people. How you greet everybody as a friend. And how you even take part in community activities ... such as judging a pie baking contest."

"That was fun," Amber fondly remembered.

At that moment, a male servant walked in and placed a tray of refreshments on a table.

"I thought refreshments would be nice," Miranda announced.

"That would be nice," Amber agreed.

Miranda and Amber spent the remainder of the afternoon having a pleasant conversation. It was a wonderful way to relax after a wonderful day.

That evening

In the royal dining room in Enchancia Castle, the royal family was having a special Mother's Day supper. As everybody sat down at the royal dining table, King Roland raised his glass and proposed a toast.

"To our dear Miranda," Roland happily started. "She who makes our lives so much brighter by her presence. Happy Mother's Day."

"Happy Mother's Day," Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and James smiled as they raised their glasses.

Miranda smiled at the warmth she was being shown. Soon, everybody had a fine meal and enjoyed a pleasant conversation. After the meal, Sofia stood up.

"Mom," Sofia started. "Dad, Amber, James, Lucinda, and I have a surprise for you - presents."

"Oh, that wasn't necessary," Miranda said, taken off guard but flattered all the same.

"Oh, indeed it is," Roland smiled.

One by one, Roland, Sofia, Amber, James, and Lucinda each presented Miranda with a gift.

"Miranda," Roland started. "Here is a silver heart-shaped necklace. It represents our love for you."

"Oh, Rollie," Miranda said in awe. "Thank you."

Sofia then walked up. "Mom," Sofia smiled. "We all got you a large portrait photograph of us."

"This is so wonderful," Miranda smiled back as she looked at the photograph of Roland, Amber, James, Sofia, and Lucinda. "Thank you. I'll have this hung up in my study."

Next to walk up to Miranda was Amber. "Here's a nice bottle of perfume for you, Mother," Amber happily announced.

"Thank you, Amber," Miranda said as she opened the bottle, and smelled the contents. "Such a light, pleasing scent. This is going to come in handy."

Lucinda then walked up. "Mom," Lucinda smiled. "I know how much you like the scented candles I have in my room. So, I thought I'd get a set for you."

"Oh, Lucinda," Miranda said, pleased. "Thank you. I'm going to use these in my study."

It was then James' turn to walk up. As he walked up, he carried a gift basket.

"Mom," James announced. "I have a gift basket for you, filled with cheeses, apples, jams, and jellies."

"What a wonderful gift," Miranda happily acknowledged. "I shall enjoy these. Thank you, James."

"I thought it would be nice to retire to the sitting room," Roland suggested. "I thought we could have some refreshments ... and maybe even a special family game night?"

"That sounds wonderful, Rollie," Miranda agreed, pleased.

As Miranda, Roland, Sofia, Amber, James, and Lucinda walked to the castle sitting room, they happily talked to each other. Spending time together was a wonderful way of ending a wonderful day,

(End of Chapter 52).

Behind the scenes

In this edition of "Behind the scenes" I give you something special considering it is Mother's Day - the recipe for the chocolate cake Lucinda made in this chapter.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake

This is a rich and moist chocolate cake, and it only takes a few minutes to prepare the batter. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.

What you'll need:

- 2 cups white sugar
- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup of vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two nine-inch round pans.

In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla, mix for 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer. Stir in the boiling water last. The batter will be thin. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes in the preheated oven, until the cake tests done with a toothpick (insert the toothpick into the cake, and if it comes out clean, the cake is done). Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

The trip back to the Mystic Isles of the past was the idea of MisuteriTenshi / SailorWednesdayMercury (who also provided the dialog for that scene). MisuteriTenshi / SailorWednesdayMercury was inspired by "The Little Mermaid" TV series episode "Marriage Of Inconvenience".

"Years in which great illnesses occurred," Amber answered. "The illness that spread across Enchancia and other kingdoms in 1867, the Spanish Flu of 1918, and the Coronavirus of late 2019 into 2020. Voyagers aren't allowed to go to those years unless they have taken a special pill first that protects them from such illnesses" - the idea of such a special pill goes back to Chapter 36 of my story "Dorrie: Book Two" (Brigade701 reminded me of this when I was writing this chapter). Also of interest is that a few weeks ago, MisuteriTenshi / SailorWednesdayMercury pointed out in a conversation that the illness that struck Enchancia in 1867 could be considered to be like today's Coronavirus.

"Yes, I do," Miranda acknowledged. "Not exactly the best thing to do, sneaking up behind Candice and hitching a ride" - this is a reference to events seen in Chapter 13 of "Once Upon a Time in Enchancia".
