Chapter VIII
"The One Where Ross Isn't in New York"
It's been two months since Ross and Rachel got back from their honeymoon. The three bedroom and two bath apartment is now fully furnished. They literally bought the entire catalogue of Pottery Barn and place it in their apartment. The master bedroom was connected to their private master bathroom complete with a double vanity, a shower and a tub. Emma's bedroom is dominated in white and pink princess themed furniture as she love. And the third bedroom is the dinosaur themed room. It is Ben's room when he visited and also Ross' office where he put his dinoasaurs knick knacks. The morning at The Green Geller apartment is quite lovely. Ross prepared breakfast for three of them, a scrambled egg, bacon, and toast. The three of them were enjoying her meal together. After they finished, Rachel stood up, went back to their room, and came back. She then placed a purple box with a white ribbon on top of it in front of Ross.
"I got a present for you" she smiled as she handed him the box
"What is this? Is this the dinosaur pen I told you the other day?" He asked curiously.
"Even better." She couldn't stop smiling
He opened the box and right after he saw what's inside it, he was smiling widely.
"You're pregnant?" He asked
"Yes" she answered
He stood up from his chair, walked towards Rachel and kissed her. He then put his hand in her belly.
"We're going to have a baby." He said with a teary eyes.
"Yes we are" She smiled.
Ross picked up Emma from her chair, lifted her up and said
"Emma you're going to be a big sister."
"Baby" Emma mumbled and then giggled.
"Yes honey, there's a baby in mommy's belly" Rachel said as she hugged Ross and Emma.
"I set up a doctor appointment later at 4, can you make it?" Rachel asked.
"Yes, I'll pick you up at work." Ross replied with a smile.
...
Later that day in the doctor office
"Mr. and Mrs. Geller?" the doctor confirmed
"Yes we are." Ross replied
"So you guys are finally married? Congratulations." The doctor said.
"Yes we are. Nice to see you again " Rachel replied with a smile.
"Okay let's see." The doctor said as she began to point at the screen and explained it to Ross and Rachel.
"Did you see this? This is your baby. You're seven weeks pregnant. Let's hear the baby heartbeat."
The monitor started to show the baby's heart rate and they started to hear the beating.
Rachel looked at Ross's face as he continued to hold her hands.
"The baby's heartbeat is very strong and everything looks normal. Congratulations for your pregnancy. We will give you a moment" The doctor said as she left the room.
Soon after the doctor left the room, Rachel's eyes were teary and Ross gave her a hug and kissed her forehead.
"We're having a baby" he said
"I can't believe it. I'm so happy" she said as she looked at him in the eyes.
"Me too" Ross replied as he kissed her in the lips.
"Can you see the baby now?" Ross asked which earned him a playfull slap on his stomach.
She smiled before she said, "Of course I can! Stop making fun of me, Geller!"
Ross, Rachel, and Emma were having a dinner together at their home later that night when suddenly the phone rang. Ross answered the call with a serious face. The call seemed really important because Ross had been on the phone for 15 minutes, and then shortly after he hung up.
"Who is it Ross?" Rachel asked
"It's the office. They need me to fly to Chicago tomorrow morning. They need me to replace the speaker, who couldn't make it to the seminar. I'm leaving at 6 AM tomorrow." Ross explained
"How long are you going to stay in Chicago?" She asked
"I'll be there for five days. I'll be back on Friday night. Are you going to be okay taking care of Emma alone?" He asked, concerned.
"I'm okay." She smiled
"Okay just call me whenever you're not feeling well." He smiled back
"Okay. I'll help you prepare your stuff after Emma finishes her meal."
"Okay, thanks. I'll be in the study, I have to finish grading before I go to Chicago." He kissed her and then went to the study room.
...
It's been three days since Ross left to Chicago, Rachel was really busy at her work. She's been working hard for the past few days. Today she managed to spare sometimes to have a dinner with Monica and Phoebe. After the dinner, Monica stopped by Ross and Rachel's apartment to pick up some stuff. By the time they reached the house, Rachel put Emma down in the living room and soon after she fainted.
Ross came back to his hotel room after a long day at the seminar. He picked up his phone and listened to his voicemail.
"Ross, it's me Monica. I just went to dinner with Rachel and Phoebe and after that I stopped by at your apartment, and as soon as we arrived, Rachel fainted. I called an ambulance and we're on our way now. Emma is with me right now. Call me as soon as you hear this message."
His body started to tremble, he quickly dialed Monica's number. As he waited for Monica to pick up her phone, his heart started to beat faster and his breath started to feel heavy.
