After turning ten, Glitchy was officially given her Pokémon Licence. She headed to Professor Oak's lab to obtain her starter Pokémon only to be told by Springs, her rival, he wasn't there. She decided to check the next town over only to be stopped by the professor himself, claiming she could have gotten hurt if she had continued without a Pokémon by her side. This brought up the question of how anyone without a Pokémon travels from town to town. Glitchy's train of thought was quickly interrupted when Professor Oak implored her to accompany him back to the lab.
Professor Oak informed Glitchy and Springs he had three Pokémon for them to choose from. Glitchy decided on Squirtle, whom she named Squirts, while Springs picked Bulbasaur. Springs then insisted they have their first Pokémon battle and, after some helpful tips from Professor Oak, Glitchy and Squirts came out victorious.
Glitchy headed to Viridian City where an old man blocked her so she headed to the Pokémart. There the shop keeper asked her to deliver a parcel that had arrived for Professor Oak. So off she went, back to Pallet Town. After giving the Professor his parcel, he gave Glitchy and Springs a Pokédex and some Pokéballs. Glitchy said her farewells to her mother and Springs' sister, who gave her a map to help her on her journey. Glitchy left Pallet Town to start her Pokémon journey.
After returning to Viridian City, Glitchy discovered a patch of grass west of town where she caught her first Pokémon, a Mankey she nicknamed Meggy. She defeating Springs on the road ahead of the grassy area, she learnt from Springs that path lead to the Pokémon League which neither of them were ready for plus they needed eight gym badges to even get in. She then left the area to train both Squints and Meggy. Glitchy headed to Pewter Gym where she obtained her first gym badge with Meggy's help. Next stop Mt. Moon
