Standing on his tip toes, sometimes he wished that she was still here because he could really use the usefulness of her heels to reach the box situated on top of the kitchen counter, he eventually used his initiative and grabbed a chair to reach what he needed, a red square box situated on top of the kitchen cupboard. He sighed emotionally over the whole thing and walked over to the sofa, he picked up his black leather shoes and began to rub them down with shoe polish, he wanted to look his best for her and that was fine, except it wasn't fine, the whole atmosphere wasn't fine, it was far from it.

The scratching of the brush against the leather made him cringe, it was one of those things he never did, she always did it for him because if he was honest she was much better at it then him. Peter's eyes drifted to the shelf in the corner of the room where there were a series of photos hung on the walls, their wedding, his and Carla's wedding, her adoration for him and the gentle curls sitting either side of her face, her eyes bright and calming, a pang of sadness in his heart at the thought of never seeing those eyes again.

Chewing his lip anxiously he stood up leaving the shoes on a piece of old newspaper, he chuckled slightly knowing she would have probably told him off if he left them on the carpet, the possibility of getting shoe polish on the carpet. He took the photo frame into his hand and wiped it over with a piece of kitchen towel making sure all the dust was removed from the surface, making sure he could stare at her ethereal beauty for as long as he could.

"Dad?" Simon enters the living room, placing his hand firmly on Peter's shoulder "We need to get going soon"

"I know we do" he smiles placing the frame back down on the shelf and straightening it making sure it was neat "I just need more time"

"It all happened so quick" Simon admits, Peter smiles and nods "You should get off, you're already running late, i just dont want you to miss this"

"Make sure you go and see Johnny-"

"Yes, I know, they know the plan, Michelle's going to be there as well supporting you..."

"I know and she will be great-"

"She doesn't need to be great, Dad, you need to share an understanding" he smiles bringing him in for a hug, he nods and lets out a sigh walking to the door to grab his jacket, he leaves the house with Simon

Peter breathed in the air of the surroundings, a car pulled up on the side of the road, Michelle stepped out wearing a black knee-length dress, her hair in curls, she brings him in for a hug and he accepts gratefully. She smiled at him and sorted out the collar of his shirt, making sure his tie was tightened and looked neat until they were both brought out of their thoughts by Johnny pulling up in his car with Jenny as well as Kate. He watched them eagerly with a smile on his face, a wide grin as Kate took out the car seat beside her.

"How was she?" Peter asks scooping the small bundle out of the car seat and cradling the small baby in his arms

"Good as gold" Johnny grins "I dressed her in the outfit that Carla wanted her to be dressed in"

"Ah right" he nods kissing the baby on the forehead and placing her in the pram which was being organised by Michelle and Kate "There we go little 'un"

"She looks comfy" Michelle smiles glancing to Peter she could tell he was struggling "It'll be fine, you know she will be so happy for you bringing her"

"I know she will" he confirms glancing down to the baby "Right shall we head off then, who's driving?"

Michelle moved the car seat to her car and Peter shared the ride with her. His and Carla's daughter sleeping peacefully in the back. He closed his eyes and stared out of the passenger window trying to collect his thoughts for the day ahead therefore making the atmosphere in the car tense and uncomfortable. She tried to make conversation but with every time he shot her down making up vague answers or just ignoring her but there was something that he wasn't ignoring and that was his craving for a rather large glass of whiskey. She pulled the car up into the car park and glanced to the building, it was peaceful and rather large, the windows old and dated, the exterior bricks chipping away which showed the prominence of the cement which was glueing them together.

"Are you ready?" he questions making sure the baby was secured in the car seat grasped firmly in his hand "It's not that bad"

"I'm bricking it mate" she breathes out, he smiles moving the car seat to the other hand and taking Michelle's hand in his as they walk up to the door and they walk into the reception

"We're here to see Carla Barlow" Peter smiles, the receptionist nods gesturing for them to take a seat in the waiting area "It's really not that bad"

"I have so many questions"

"You're bound to" he smiles slightly glancing down to the baby huddled up in the pale pink blanket "She needs her though and that's the thing which is hard"

"Did she think of any names?" Michelle queries, Peter just sighs and shakes his head adamantly "You will have to get her registered sooner or later"

"I know" he flashes her a smile as someone steps into the waiting room "Dr Williams, nice to see you again"

"And you, do you want to come this way?" he questions opening the door to his office, Michelle and Peter step in and sit down on the chairs provided, Michelle takes the baby out of the car seat "You are?"

"Michelle, Carla's sister in law, cousin" she confirms. Dr Williams nods "Has there been any improvement?"

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about. As you both know this is a long term rehab facility for people who struggle with mental health-"

"We know this" Peter says exasperatedly rubbing his hands over his face "Look just tell us what we need to know"

"We've started Carla on a new treatment plan-"

"Again?" Michelle's eyes widen, Peter sighs in annoyance shaking his head "Is this one going to work this time or-"

"Michelle" Peter scolds, she rolls her eyes "Sorry it's just annoying nothing seems to be working and it's just a strain"

"I understand it's bound to be hard but what happened to Carla-"

"Don't" he shakes his head unable to hear it, unable to process it "Enough is enough I dont want to have to replay it myself"

"Well what happened it's going to have...let me rephrase, is going to have a forever impact on her, she's fragile Peter, she needs time"

"But we dont have time!" he snaps angrily, Dr Williams flashes him a smile "Sorry it's just I have a baby and a child at home and its difficult to balance that and support her"

"I know it's hard but you have all our support" Dr Williams smiles supportive, Peter just rolls his eyes

"Does she want to see us now?" Michelle questions, Dr Williams just sighs slightly

"You both know it isn't that easy for her to comprehend these sorts of things, she's under high levels of supervision right now"

"Please" Peter begs "I'd understand if she wouldn't want to see me but Michelle, she's known her since she were a kid, that's got to inflict some sort of positivity surely...?"

"Ok, we can try" Dr Williams compromises, Peter sighs finally getting somewhere with these doctors "It might be best not to bring the baby, it may...trigger some things"

"I always bring her just in case, the rest of her family are in the car park as well, we really want to try and get something out of her" Peter informs the doctor, he doesn't say anything but instead he just smiles

"You can do this Michelle, she's still the same, looks the same, still Carla its just...a scarier and paranoid version, erratic"

"Ok" she gulps nervously, the doctor smiles holding the security door open as they walk into the corridor, somehow travelling to England from Ireland seemed inferior all of a sudden...
