"I like you."
"P-pardon?" Fumikage stuttered as he stared at the short girl standing in front of him.
He'd received a simple note in his shoe locker that morning, asking to meet behind the main school building before General Heroics that afternoon. It had taken much of his self-control to make it through morning lessons, Dark Shadow insisting on telling everyone about the note, even when Fumikage had asked him not to. It hadn't helped that Ashido and Hagakure had been on his case about the note for most of the day as well. He'd had to repeatedly insist that it wasn't a confession, and even resorted to ripping up the note so they couldn't read it. So, when he'd rounded the corner and spotted the shorter girl waiting for him, he'd already been surprised.
"I-I like you," the bat girl repeated nervously, "You're nice and cool and…"
"You think I'm cool?" Fumikage said, staring down at her in shock, "R-really?"
"Y-yeah," Pipi muttered, "I think you're cool."
"Oh."
"Yeah."
The two stood awkwardly for a moment, before a watch on Pipi's wrist suddenly beeped, making both of them jump.
"S-sorry, that's my alarm to eat something, I guess I forgot to silence it," the bat girl chuckled nervously, "I…uhm…I need to go. Bye."
Fumikage froze as the girl leaned up, placing a soft kiss on his cheek, her face lighting up in a blush. Fumikage stood stunned for a whole minute, before he lifted a hand to his cheek, turning to look after where the girl had run, his feather-like hair fluffing out in embarrassment.
"Soooo?" Mina asked as she and Toru leaned over Fumikage's desk the next day, "Who was it?"
"Who was what?" the avian student muttered, trying to keep his hair flat and face schooled into a clam expression.
"The person who confessed to you?" Toru asked, "Come on, tell us!"
"There was no one there. It was a prank," Fumikage muttered, looking away as the two girls eyed him suspiciously.
"Dark Shadow! Who did he meet?" Mina suddenly called, Fumikage's eyes going wide as his quirk poked its head out of his chest.
"I am not at liberty to say," the quirk replied, before vanishing back into the boy.
"So, there was someone!" Mina huffed, "But why won't you tell us! You love gossip, Dark Shadow!"
"Yeah, I do," the quirk said as it poked out again, looking at Mina with its strange blank eyes, "But this is a private matter between Fumi and the girl, so I won't say any more."
"It was a confession!" Toru squealed happily, "Even if you won't tell us who, will you at least tell us if you're going to accept?"
"I…I don't know," Fumikage replied, looking away again.
"Soooo… How'd it go?" the grey-skinned girl asked as the two of them walked back towards the dorms, "Did he say yes? Did he say no? Do I need to beat him up?"
"Hmph?!" Pipi half choked on the nutrient bar sticking out between her lips, coughing as she pulled it out of her mouth and stared at the other girl in shock, "No! It went fine!"
"So then what was his reply?"
"I…uhm…I don't know…"
"You don't know?" Amaya sighed, resting her elbow on Pipi's shoulder, "Pipi, I am your best friend, so let me tell you that if you ran away before he had time to reply, I am going to kick your butt."
"N-no! I just…my watch went off, and I panicked, and I left," the bat girl said, her voice steadily going quieter as she spoke, "And…"
"What?" Amaya asked, "What was that last bit? I didn't quite catch it."
"I may have…I mean I did…" Pipi wrung her hands nervously as she peeked over at her friend, "I may have kissed him. On the cheek."
"Girl," Amaya huffed, leaning back, and looking at Pipi as the girl smiled nervously, before bursting into a smile of her own, wrapping the startled bat girl in a tight hug, "That's great! You'll have him wrapped around your little finger in no time!"
"What? N-no! I don't want that! I just like him!"
"And I'm sure he'll love you back," Amaya giggled as Pipi blushed crimson, ruffling the bat girl's hair, "Now come on, let's hurry so we can get in the bath before it fills up too much!"
Fumikage yawned as he walked sleepily down the stairs, heading towards the dorm kitchen. It was barely 2 am, and he'd woken up with a near insatiable craving for apples. He doubted it was only him, considering the way Dark Shadow was slung across his shoulders, muttering in its sleep about the delicious fruit. The bird-headed boy yawned as he walked into the kitchen, blinking as he saw the light of the fridge partially lighting up the room, someone digging through it.
"Hello?" he muttered, blinking more awake at the startled 'eep' that came from the fridge, the person smacking their head on the fridge as they shot upwards, falling backwards onto the floor, "Are you okay?"
"Y-yeah," Pipi muttered, rubbing the back of her head as she got up, "You just…uhm…startled…me…"
"Oh," the boy said, blinking as he got a good view of her in the bright light of the fridge.
She was wearing a simple over-sized t-shirt, an image of a Hero the raven-headed boy didn't know on it. The neck was large enough to have slipped off one of her shoulders, exposing the pale skin underneath, the hem hanging down past her waist, but giving a clear view of her slender thighs. Fumikage swallowed, Dark Shadow twitching on his shoulders as the quirk woke up more.
"Apples?" it muttered, suddenly slipping off the teen's shoulders and moving over to the bowl of fruit sitting on the counter, grabbing one of the fruits in each hand and biting into them before letting out happy crooning noises.
"Your quirk can eat?" Pipi asked, fidgeting slightly as she stood in front of him.
"Y-yeah," Fumikage replied, suddenly very aware that he was alone in a room with a cute girl while only wearing a t-shirt and a pair of boxer shorts, "He likes apples."
"Oh, that's cool," the bat girl murmured, looking away.
"Uhm…who is that on your shirt? I don't recognise the Hero," Fumikage managed as he walked stiffly over to the counter, picking up an apple for himself.
"Oh! This is Nightwing! He's not a real Hero," the girl said, suddenly excited, "Well, not real in that he's actually from a pre-quirk comic! I just really like him."
"Oh, that's…cool," Fumikage wanted to kick himself for that lame answer, looking around for something else to talk about, his eyes falling on the still open fridge, "Did you also wake up with a craving?"
"Oh! Y-yeah, sort of," Pipi stammered, back to her usual nervous self, "I uhm…I have to have a special drink every few days, and I forgot to have it at dinner, so…here I am."
"Ah, yes, your dietary restrictions," Fumikage nodded, "I understand."
"Oh, they're not really restrictions, I just have to eat and drink certain things because of my quirk," Pipi said hurriedly, "I can still eat normal food as well!"
"I see," the boy replied, leaning back against the countertop as Dark Shadow picked up another apple, "Well, do not let me interrupt you."
"Oh! T-thanks!" Pipi muttered, going back to the fridge and taking out a small, unmarked juice box that the other teen had noticed had been added to the bottom of the fridge after the UHC students had moved in.
"What is it?" he asked, immediately hating himself for asking as the girl looked at him in shock, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to!"
"N-no, it's not that…" Pipi muttered, "It's just…a bit weird."
"Well Fumi's a bit weird, so I doubt he'd mind," Dark Shadow said as he gulped down the last of his fifth apple, "And he thinks you're cute."
"Dark Shadow!" the teen hissed as he grabbed at he quirk, trying to stuff it back inside his chest, stopping when he heard the juice box hit the floor, "Uhm…Vesper-san, are you okay?"
"Y-you think I'm cute?"
"He does!" Dark Shadow snickered, slipping out of the boy's grasp, "He's been thinking about your confession all night!"
"I have not!" the raven-headed boy snapped, grabbing at the quirk again, "Just shut up and go back to eating your apples!"
"Finished 'em all," Dark Shadow grinned as it suddenly shot over to Pipi, hiding behind her, "Vesper-san, he's mad at me! Help!"
"H-help?" the girl squeaked, "H-how?"
"Ask him on a date! It'll stun him long enough for both of us to get away!"
"A d-date?" Pipi muttered, her cheeks going dark in the shadows, "I…uhm…I…"
"Dark Shadow! You can't just say that! She wouldn't want to go on a date with me anyway!" Fumikage hissed as he stalked forwards, "Now be quiet, we're going back to bed!"
"But I do."
The boy froze at the words, swallowing as he looked down at the small girl in front of him, her black eyes reflecting the light of the fridge as she looked up at him.
"P-pardon?"
"I do want to go on a date with you," she repeated, seeming to steel herself, "P-please go out with me!"
"I…uhm…I…" Fumikage's brain short circuited for a moment, before he answered the only way he could think of, "Okay."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
"Great! That's great!" the girl said excitedly, "I…uhm…I know a really good café near the school, we can go on Saturday. Is that okay?"
"Sure," the boy replied.
"Great!" Pipi smiled happily as she stepped forwards, placing a gentle kiss on Fumikage's cheek once again, both teens staring at each other as she stepped back, Pipi's face bright red as Fumikage's fluffed up.
"D-don't forget your drink," he muttered as he turned on his heel and walked awkwardly out of the kitchen.
"S-see you Saturday!" Pipi called after him.
"Yeah, Saturday."
