Here's a little Remadora two-shot. It was supposed to be a one-shot without a happy end at first. But it was too short and, quite frankly, I couldn't leave those two without reuniting them eventually.

Her vision was blurred but it didn't stop her from walking, not anymore. It had for a while back in autumn 1995, when he'd left for the wolves. Oh yes, she'd cried a lot. One man had caused her so much pain and so much hurt, more than she had ever felt before.

But Nymphadora Tonks had always been a fighter, so she'd learnt to cope with it. Tears didn't stop her anymore. By now, she had realized that maybe, just maybe he wasn't worth her tears anymore.

So Tonks glanced at the starry summer sky and blinked furiously, making her tears go away. She wouldn't cry for him anymore. She wouldn't let him break her anymore. She wouldn't let him near her anymore.

Tonks heard footsteps sounding from behind her. They were several feet away still so she didn't turn around. She didn't turn around either when he called her name.

"Tonks, wait!" Remus's voice sounded. Tonks could hear the panic and desperation in it. She reckoned he was afraid that she would just disapparate. But Tonks wouldn't. Not because of him. She would face Remus if necessary, tell him that she didn't want to be with him anymore - not like that. She wouldn't run away.

But she wouldn't stop either. If he really wanted to talk to her, it was his business to stop her.

"Tonks, please wait... Nymphadora, please!"

"Don't fucking call me Nymphadora, Remus!" she snapped without turning around. But she stopped, however. "You have no right to do so. I've told you before that I don't like people do that against my will."

"People?!" he spat out. Tonks knew she might have crossed the line. Remus was more than "people", of course. He seemed to summon himself again very quickly though. "But I always called you that..." This time, his voice sounded a little broken.

"We always did a lot of things. But we won't anymore and that's done with," she said calmly.

"Nym- Tonks. Oh god, would you please just face me. Please."

Tonks briefly closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She turned around and met Remus's honey-coloured, tired eyes. Shadows of the recent battle seemed to mirror in his eyes still. The once golden speckles she used to adore were gone. But she couldn't cave in. She wouldn't do that again, it made her vulnerable.

"Tonks, I... I'm so sorry."

She didn't reply. She would let him speak and hear what he had to say.

He opened his mouth again as if to speak but shut if after a few seconds. His eyes seemed to go blank and his gaze dropped to the ground. And this broke Tonks's heart, no matter how much she'd tried not to let it break again. Seeing him giving up on her, on him, on them. Would it ever change?

"Remus?" she asked silently.

He risked a glance and shook his head. "I'm sorry," he muttered again.

Tonks knew him well enough to tell that this was it. He wouldn't say more, he wasn't strong enough, maybe not whole enough. But she needed him whole - not as a man but as a lover. Tonks needed his whole love, his whole soul, his whole heart. Not just a part of it.

"That is goodbye then," Tonks said, looking at him for a last time.

He met her eyes briefly and Tonks couldn't remember a time when she had seen him so hopeless and broken.

But she couldn't do this anymore.

So she walked away.
