It has been quite a long time since I last updated this story, huh? Lots of things have changed, including the main fandom I write for. But, don't worry. I've gotten my head out of my arse in respects to this story so I will be finishing it within two chapters. Which, unfortunately, I must admit was my initial plan. But I was really immature and bad at handling responsibility- still am, not gonna lie- and I just left this up in the air for much too long. I'm sorry about that. But, hey, here's the second to last chapter!
Deadpool refused to allow Spiderman to accompany them to the fighting in London. It was... unnerving how insistent he was on not letting the teenager go with them.
Creeper watched on as Spiderman and Deadpool argued with one another about what would be the best move. Without Kid Flash in their numbers and the impending destruction of the world looming over their shoulders, there were very little moves they could actually commit to. Even in Creeper's ever optimistic mind, he knew that there were no rights moves at this point... just... moves.
What had happened to this world to destroy it so completely?
This adventure he had embarked on with Captain Cinnamon and ex-Captain Ginger had been grand and incredibly fun. He would totally go on it again, really- but he would be happy to do without the pit-stop in the world where Aquaman and Wonder Woman hadn't been allowed to release their sexual tensions properly and were declaring their twisted love for one another via destruction of the surface.
"If you go, you stay out of the fight. You hear me, kid- this is no place for children!"
There was a beat of silence; then Spiderman growled out, "There is a whole group of actual kids in the other room that are preparing to fight. You are not going to get me to sit this out!"
Creeper frowned softly as soon as he heard the angered growl from Cinnamon.
They had been going at this for a good half hour now; and they had gotten nowhere.
In the blink of an eye, Deadpool grabbed ahold of Spiderman's bright suit and pulled him close, snarling, "War is no place for a kid, Parker, and the last thing I'm going to allow is for you to die on my watch!"
The air in the room froze.
It didn't take a genius to know there was some kind of story behind Deadpool's rush of anger... even Creeper was able to note it- and he wasn't the sharpest bulb in the toolbox.
"Even though I think we need as many bodies as possible to win this," Creeper perked up when he heard the tin-voice of the tin-man pipe up; when he turned to look towards the entrance, he found this giant version of Cyborg walking into the room with a heavy look on the human half of his face- the metallic half just looked frozen. "I have to agree with Deadpool on this. You're... just a kid."
That had to sting.
But Creeper wasn't new to the idea of having to twist some necks- just like he wasn't new to the idea that, sometimes, twisting necks and allowing young'uns to twist necks wasn't necessarily the best idea.
"And that's the end of that. You're staying in the plane with Creeper."
Now the yellow skinned man raised a hand.
He was ignored.
"I'll come back as soon as I find our Ginger."
Creeper huffed as he crossed his arms over his chest.
He never got to twist necks anymore.
Zoom was a terrifying presence.
Now that I had seen him, I could feel his energy sucking at the Speed Force- twisting and perverting it. It was... disheartening.
"Our reinforcements landed." Grifter hissed through his teeth after he finished checking in on the radio.
The air around us, already so cold and heavy, somehow dampened further. When I looked over the people that I was surrounded by... when I took in their reaction to the news... I could tell that these people were broken. They were fighting to die today.
Tears welled up in my eyes without my consent.
A heavy hand landed on my shoulder and when I looked up, it was to find the man with the red mask looking down at me. "This is probably going to be our final fight, kid. If you want to run now..." he drifted off.
I frowned.
I could run right now, scour the globe in the hopes of finding my friends, and leave this place before I had to face any further heartache.
But... that felt wrong.
I was a hero, first and foremost. And heroes didn't just runaway. That's what Zoom did. Hell, Zoom was probably sucking at the Speed Force so harshly to make sure that other speedsters weren't able to draw on their full potential. The guy was a coward that preferred to take from others than acquire things himself. He was a villain, first and foremost.
I wanted nothing more than to return to my home, hug my family and friends, and never let go.
But if I did that... I would forever have the deaths of these heroes resting on my conscience... I would forever know I did nothing to help them in their time of need.
A hero saved people, no matter what dimension or universe they were from.
"What're we waiting for?" I asked, offering a smirk I knew looked as hollow as I felt. "You need all the help you can get."
Grifter scoffed softly.
"Brat."
I smiled sadly.
I miss my home.
But I don't know how I'd be able to live with myself back at my home knowing I did nothing to help these guys retake theirs.
When they arrived at the FP-Quadrant, they knew they had no time to waste in finding the wayward heroes. The world was only hours away from resetting; they were only one jump away from the ultimate destruction of the space-time continuum of a whole universe.
Tijd and Temps threw themselves into their work without a second's hesitation, rushing through the screams of millions of innocents and damned as they went about finding the foreigners of this world.
It took a few more minutes than they would have liked, but eventually they found two of the people they were looking for.
"Keep your eyes close, Spidey! You heard the Captain!" Creeper shouted as he punched the nose of an amazon woman, caked in blood and dirt and dozens of wounds. The woman slumped to the ground, dead, in only a handful of seconds- her brain had been impaled by the bone Creeper had pushed upward.
"There is literally no way that's going to happen!" Spiderman shouted in retaliation as he did his best to aid the yellow skinned hero fight off the incoming forces. He was slinging from one spot to another, dancing around the women and Creeper as the green haired adult went about dispatching them with a brutality uncommon in his universe.
Both Keepers of Space and Time frowned at the sight.
The FP-Quadrant had gotten to them both... none of the dimensional travelers would be the same again after this... unless...
"We arrived on time!" Temps shook his head to break away from his thoughts, eliciting a serious nod from Tijd.
"Let's get them."
A pained howl was ripped from Creeper's mouth when one of the amazons spears cut through his stomach and Spiderman shouted out his name- both of their voices were stained with pain and fear.
the FP-Quadrant held nothing back.
There was no recognition in Uncle Barry's eyes as he stared up at me after I had managed to push Zoom off of him. There was just surprise... fear.
The tears were threatening to spill at this point.
I had been following Grifter and the rest of the Resistance throughout the battlefield this whole time... I had been making sure that no amazon or atlantean got too close to Grifter so they were not allowed to kill him. I couldn't watch him die... I just...
But then I had seen twin blurs fighting... then I had seen a yellow one overtake the red one... and I had separated from the Resistance and hurled my body's full momentum at Zoom to throw him off of Uncle Barry.
"There's a third speedster?" was the only thing to come out of my uncle's mouth.
"Wrong, Barry, I'll dispatch of him in no time." Zoom's voice had appeared towards my right and I had just barely managed to duck out of the haymaker he had thrown my way.
Uncle Barry didn't recognize me. Zoom didn't recognize me.
I... I hated this place.
My legs moved of their own accord. I ran off before I could hear any other conversation from either of them. Zoom was hot on my trail- Uncle Barry was nipping at his heels the whole time he chased me down.
"Run, brat! Run!" Zoom's maniacal cackling was much more unhinged to any I had ever heard from the guy before. Quite frankly, it didn't surprise me even though it did unnerve me.
"Zoom! Let him go! This is between you and me!"
"I could never pass up the chance to make you responsible for the death of a child, Allen!"
I had never run so fast before in my life.
Zipping through the crumbled remains of a once prosperous city, I had to duck, dodge, jump, and weave my way out of Zoom's grasp way too many times than I liked to admit- I was too slow... Dammit- I was too slow!
I almost wiped out when, from the corner of my eye, I saw the death of Godiva... Lois Lane fell right after...
Tears blurred my sight as I continued running away from Zoom.
I was barely able to crash into the amazon behind Grifter before she was able to spear him through the chest. I was barely able to roll out of the way before Zoom plunged his arm through her body rather than my own.
"Keep running, kid!"
I couldn't.
My body was burning. I couldn't stop crying.
Grifter shouted out as an arrow landed in his shoulder.
That got me moving.
"Get out of the way!" I managed to lunge at him and topple him from his spot shooting at amazons before a barrage of arrows made him into a human pincushion.
Grifter's right arm released the gun he had been shooting with and wrapped around my body as we both wound up rolling and clattering through the broken street after I had forced him out of the way... he had no other way to protect himself anymore.
"Look at that, I won't even have to kill him my-" Zoom shut up suddenly.
"Now, Barry!"
Grifter's arm tightened around me just as black spots began to fill up my vision.
I blacked out with the knowledge that I was going to die... but at least I had died being a hero.
Tijd and Temps didn't allow Spiderman to watch Deadpool dispatch of the individuals that had been preparing to kill Kid Flash and Grifter after this world's Flash took off running to reset it.
Creeper sat solemnly in their blue tinged protective bubble, dark eyes watching on in tired apathy as Deadpool brutally handled the individuals that had, in his mind, hurt his Cinnamon.
Spiderman was kept unaware of what happened due to a handy motion-stop trick that stopped him from moving- and therefore seeing and hearing- even as the world continued around them.
The Deadpool that returned to them was covered in blood and had many cuts and rips in his clothes. He was dragging Grifter with him, who refused to let go of Kid Flash.
Immediately, the Keepers knew extracting Kid Flash from this world's Grifter wouldn't be easy.
But... the world was going to reset now. Grifter being pulled out at this point wouldn't amount to anything; eventually he would vanish like the rest of this bloodied future.
With the unwarranted dimensional travelers tucked safely within the bubble, Tijd and Temps began the long journey back to Father Time to be able to finally sort out this situation.
On their way back, they came across another group of dimensional travelers- a few of which belonged to Kid Flash's and Deadpool's universes. Tijd and Temps grabbed a hold of them and brought them along, stopping their own need to jump from dimension to dimension to find whichever person it was they were looking for.
With a heavy heart, both Keepers watched silently as the heroes tried to find out what in the world had happened to the group to leave them so wounded and mournful.
None of the heroes that had visited the FP-Quadrant answered their questions; Kid Flash was passed out, Spiderman was just about catatonic, and the two adults... well... maybe they just weren't prepared to talk about what they had seen or done.
Tijd frowned at this... maybe... if Father Time allowed it...
He sighed.
Hopefully the next chapter will be up by the time this week ends! Please review- if you feel like it, I wouldn't blame you if you don't because... well... I am aware it's been years. But... uh... yeah. Thanks for reading!
