Ice Queen

(This story takes place just after The Last Olympian, but before Percy gets taken)

Percy

One would not expect to be beat-up by a girl who was younger than you but my life is full of surprises. The girl was younger than me asking me to train with her. She was about 5'4; She had jet black hair which was kept in a messy bun held together by a pencil, (how do girls do that I have no clue), snow-white skin, dark blue eyes, a haltered camp tee-shirt (which she probably cut herself), and black leggings with Icicles painted on the bottom.

She was pretty, in a young way not like Annabeth though. I looked around and saw that there was little to no space left in the sword arena. "Not here," she said as if reading my mind.

We went outside, in the forest, and I saw the creek, Then said, "how about there?" the girl picked up on what I was trying to do but reluctantly followed me, I swore I could see her grin.

She had duel Daggers that weren't celestial bronze but instead silver. We took our places then began. I struck first and quickly got the upper hand since I was invincible but her daggers felt unnaturally cold, even the weather was starting to get colder. For a second she let down her defenses to take a breath. I took my chance, I struck with the water since I could not injure her badly because of the capture the flag that night. I sent a jet of water at her but just before it hit, she stuck her hand out and the water froze literally.

Ice was creeping up her feet but she did not mind and was looking like she was calmer, and enjoying it even, her eyes were now not the dark blue that they were when we first met but instead an Icy Blue. She moved her hands as if she was splitting the water which she was. She flicked her wrist and the blocks of ice turned to shards and I got legitimately scared, I forgot that I was just training and that I could not hurt her.

I sent more water at her but she froze it again and created more shards. I tried to run at her but she sent half the shards at me and pinned me to a thick oak tree that was behind me. I tried to get the water to let me go but it did not work, she then sent the other half and stopped it an inch from my face "not so cute now am I, Jackson?" she said in a tone that made me feel even more scared.

She let all the ice melt but the one pointed at my neck, her eyes turning back to their original color, and then walked away on her hands, things people write with, not on her legs, her hands. "Who are you?" I called "Eira daughter of Khione, not all of us get to be sons of Poseidon" but she did not seem resentful at all more like a friendly taunt, she stood up gave a fake salute then cartwheeled away, I found this kinda funny and was quite interested about who she was.

The next day I was walking with Annabeth while doing the inspection, and I told her about the interaction and she was not paying attention to me "what is it?" I asked slightly concerned "nothing," she said trying for a smile but I saw through her "is your dad," "No and it is none of your concern," she said and then ran off.

I tried to continue my day without thinking about Annabeth but I couldn't. I was doing some swordplay by myself when Eira walked up to me and said "why so glum, chum?" in a friendly tone "it's-none of your business." I said, realizing who I was talking to.

"Hey you know I can read you like a book, you might as well tell me what's going on," "you read me? No way,"

"You are looking at one of the few who were blessed by Hecate," then she handed me a paper with directions to a cave in the woods and said "come after 6 am if you want," walking away.

That night I could not sleep at all and at 6 I reluctantly went to the cave. There was a small stream in there then I saw Eira in a split asleep and looked peaceful like a cat she was wearing a sweatshirt and her black leggings.

I sat down and patted her shoulder, she jolted awake and I saw her wipe a tear from her cheek "what's wrong" I asked "Just thinking of my old friends", "other than Grover I never had friends till camp, who were they" I asked, curious "Oh just some people from the circus" at this I was appalled "Wait you were in a circus?!", "Ya, where do you think I learned how to do the things I do".

She bent back and I heard a series of cracks which gave me goosebumps. "Anyway what's up with Annabeth" "how do you know-," she gave me a look that shut me up. I started to tell her what happened she listened then went into a handstand against the cave wall and said-

"give her space,"

"I have!"

"Then-"

"I don't need a 12-year-old girl giving me relationship advice"

"Okay I am 15 for your information and you need to calm down" there was a note of panic in her voice when she said the last part.

"I DON'T CARE!"

Then I slammed my fist into the wall but instead, it hit the stomach of a girl, Eira let out a cry of pain and fell hitting her head on the floor making her unconscious. I saw her elbow wet and so was the floor I put two and two together, I punched her in the gut and pulled her elbow to make her fall. I had just heard the wake-up call so I ran to the Apollo cabin to get help.

I went into the Apollo cabin and saw that Will Solace was the only one awake. He was in PJs but I must have looked really scared because he took one look at me and said "where are they" "cave in the woods" I ran ahead and he sprinted after me when we got to the cave, I saw Eira on the floor and my throat closed up with dread.

Will ran forward and fed her some ambrosia, her eyes fluttered open and Will said "what happened?" before answering she looked at me and said, "I was doing some dangerous trick and I fell if Percy had not walked by would be…" then she passed out.

Will turned to me and said, "she has a severely bruised stomach and a broken wrist but that's it." I sighed in relief and went with him to the infirmary. There we saw Eira regain conscience and "ask who are you and where am I?". Will looked kind of scared but then he told me to, "please step outside for a minute" and as I did so overwhelming guilt took over. After a few minutes, Will came back looking as pale as Eira and said "she has amnesia but she will be perfectly fine in24 hours"

The news spread like wildfire, not the fact that she fell but the fact that she had no memories. It was common for kids to get hurt at camp but no one ever lost their memory in the process, also the fact that she was in the circus, It was not unheard of for a camper to not have a good family life, in reality, most campers had run away from home but no one had ever joined the circus.

About a week later a boy about the age of 9 was pestering me to tell him what had happened that day and I just cracked. I told him to get lost and I went to the canoe lake to cool off underwater, and I saw Annabeth, I tried to walk away but she called to sit next to her.

I reluctantly agreed and she said "Percy I have to tell you something to tell you" "me too" I replied. She looked kind of surprised "You go first" she said finally I took a deep breath and then said "It was me I am the reason that Eira has a concussion and no memories it is all my fault I-"

"Seaweed brain calm down. It is okay if accidents happen, no one can stop them."

"But how do you know that it won't happen again what if it does and I hurt someone and they are not as lucky?"
"Because you are a good person and you won't do this kind of thing on purpose you just lost control it happens"

I felt like 100 times better saying it to her, then I remembered that she had to tell me something too "what about you?"

"Oh it's nothing"

"You can tell me anything no matter if it is a world-ending prophecy or even the smallest bit of news"

"Oh fine" she took a deep breath and then said "it is his birthday today, Luke's" I saw tears in her eyes, and before I could say anything she wiped them and said "I should not cry over some guy" " hey you are the strongest person I know you can cry over anything" at that she put her head on my shoulders and I hugged her as tears streamed down her face. I thought about Luke, all the bad things he had done but in the end, he was the bravest hero I'd ever met, a snowflake interrupted my thoughts by falling on my hand. It was the size of my palm and engraved in the center were the words "you're welcome". I looked over my shoulder and saw Eira giving her signature fake salute and then cartwheeled away.
