Harry arrived at Umbridge's office 5 minutes early for his first detention. Sighing he knocked on the door and was met with a sickeningly sweet "Come in Mr. Potter." As he opened the door he saw Umbridge sitting at her desk with the most horrendous smile and a small table off to the side. "You'll be writing lines today Mr. Potter, I want you to use the quill on the table there and write 'I must not tell lies'".
Harry didn't think that was so bad, he was expecting her to say he had to help Filch clean the halls until midnight or something. As he sat down he realized something though "Professor, there's no ink." "Oh, you won't need ink with that quill." He looked confused, but wasn't about to argue, just as he was about to put quill to parchment he realized, "Professor, how long do you want me to write lines?" "Oh until the message sinks in I think." she replied sweetly.
Harry began his detention "I" something was wrong, the ink was red and a small scratch appeared on the backside of his hand. "Is something wrong Mr. Potter?" she asked when she saw he wasn't writing. " No professor" he replied with fire in his eyes. This quill was using his own blood as ink, and was carving the message into the back of his hand, he now understood what she meant when she said he will be there as long as it takes until the message set in.
Anger and rage flowed through Harry's body when he came up with a new message to write if he was going to have this on the back of his hand forever it wasn't going to say he was a liar. He ignored the pain as he furiously wrote "Fuck you Umbridge" over and over she wasn't paying him much mind, as long as he was writing she continued her work. After what seemed like ages, his parchment was covered in red, and he felt as if he was going to faint. Umbridge seemed pleased with the time and went to check on his work. As she took the parchment and began reading it Harry saw her fake smile turn into an ugly scowl. Her eyes pierced at him from above the parchment "How dare you Potter, you will pay severely for your indiscretion, you are expelled starting immediately." She began to raise her wand at this and Harry's instincts took over. "Expelliarmus" he shouted and suddenly her wand was flying through the air, he caught it and with a smile made sure she saw him snap it in half.
He needed to act quickly now, he was not going to let this toady bitch kick him out of his home, he stunned her and began modifying her memory. Satisfied with the result he woke her back up, suddenly she left her office in a hurry, she remembered she had an urgent meeting with someone named Aragog in the middle of the Forbidden Forest. He made sure she would take the right path and that she wouldn't talk to anyone along the way, not that anyone would want to stop and talk to her anyways. From her office window Harry watched her approach the edge of the forest and smirked. He wished he could have seen it as the toad walked into the spider's web, he thought the Acromantulas were in for quite a meal panic swept over him, people knew he had detention with Umbridge that night, how would he explain her disappearance, he was still holding her broken wand.
Harry suddenly remembered a story Dumbledore told last year about needing a restroom and one appearing. He couldn't quite remember all of the details, and Dumbledore wasn't even looking at Harry this year so he had another idea. "Dobby, could you please come here?" There was a small pop and a small house elf dressed in an assortment of clothes appeared. "How may I help you, Harry Potter?" He was beaming at Harry, he hadn't seen him in so long, and Harry never asked for his help before (not that that stopped him from trying to offer it). "I've heard of a room that sort of responds to the needs of whoever is near it. Do you know what this room is, Dobby?" Beaming up at the kind wizard who had set him free Dobby couldn't contain his excitement. "Yes I know where it is let me show you."
Dobby lead Harry to a corridor on the seventh floor, "Harry Potter must think very clearly about what he wants to use this room for, and pass this tapestry three times and a door will appear holding whatever he needs." "Thank you Dobby I appreciate the help. Could you please not mention this conversation to anyone? Even Professor Dumbledore?" At this request Dobby looked extremely nervous and began wringing his hands together "Harry Potter wants he to keep a secret from Master Dumbledore? I will try Harry Potter, but Dobby cannot guarantee it." At that the house elf disappeared again. "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all" Harry murmured to himself. It's just when Harry realized what Umbridge was having him do he couldn't help the desire to get revenge. And he was not going to let her kick him out of the world he had grown to love. He walked through the door of this mysterious room and saw that he was not the only student in Hogwarts that needed to keep a secret.
He was suddenly in a room bigger than a Quidditch pitch filled with an assortment of objects thrown around haphazardly. A little to his right he saw a large pile of empty Butterbeer bottles with the corks placed back into them. Harry grabbed one of these bottles and began to go deeper into this room filled with broken furniture, banned items, skeletons of pets long forgotten and much more. He needed to make sure no one ever found this bottle, he found a precariously stacked pile of broken desks, old textbooks, and old brooms in the middle of the room. Although he had never done this he knew the basic concept of removing one's memory, so he uncorked the empty bottle, shoved the two halves of her wand into it, and pressed his wand to his temple. He had to make sure he only removed the memory starting after he felt faint. He wanted it to look like he wrote so much with her evil quill that he fainted from blood loss, he didn't want to remember her walking into the forest, or asking Dobby for his help, no one must know what he had done or he would suffer consequences far more severe than being expelled. Once he got that memory of her office to the forefront of his mind he slowly willed it to his wand, to his surprise it was working. After extracting the memory; starting from when Umbridge first said he was done for the night, up until this point, he tried to remember why he was here. He placed the memory into the bottle alongside the broken wand. He had tried remembering what he was doing, and how he got there. He had a feeling he needed to hide the bottle inside one of the desks. The last thing he remembered was staring at a red piece of parchment in pain. He did leave one thought though.
Harry knew he needed to get back to Umbridge's office, though he had no idea why, or even where he was. Once there he listened to the strange thought in his head telling him to write a note and extract the memory from being in that odd room until now, and place the memory in the glass vial he took from that room. Harry had never extracted a memory before, but he understood the basic concept. He brought the memory of his leaving that room and his walking back to the office to the forefront of his mind, laid his head on the table next to the bloody parchment, and raised his wand to his temple.
Suddenly Harry awoke with a pain on the back of his hand with the words "Fuck you Umbridge" carved into it. She was nowhere to be found and he saw that it was quite late, how long had he been passed out? He hated thinking that Umbridge had seen him pass out, but wondered where she was, and why she didn't try to wake him. He figured since she was no longer there he had served his detention and walked back to Gryffindor tower feeling confused. It was after midnight when he finally returned, but sure enough Ron and Hermione were there waiting for him, he felt relief to have friends like these in his life. He recounted the story of his detention as best as he could, when he got to the part about him being faint Hermione began to worry. "Harry how could you do that? Umbridge must have seen what you wrote after you passed out, what if she was gone to write Fudge to inform him she was expelling you?" "I know Hermione, it's just hard to keep my anger under control." "Well I think it's wicked Harry," Ron replied " I wish I could have seen her face when she did read it." After telling this story Harry realized he was exhausted so he went up to his dorm to change out of his robes. While doing so a small vial with a note attached fell out of his pocket. He unrolled the parchment and it said "dispose of me in the muggle world, DO NOT VIEW THIS MEMORY!" Confused and slightly worried about this ominous note, he stashed the vial at the bottom of his trunk where it would remain until he reached Number 4 Privet Drive once more.
The next day Umbridge wasn't at breakfast, which was odd, she rather liked ruling over the students from the head table, thinking of new ways to ruin their lives. When lunch rolled around and she still hadn't been seen Harry was told by McGonagall that Dumbledore wanted him in Snape's office immediately. Harry was starting to grow concerned, not because he was missing Umbridge, but for some reason Dumbledore thought he had something to do with it. Harry made his way to Snape's dungeon office and when he arrived he was told to sit in the chair opposite him. Without warning or explanation Snape looked into his eyes and quietly said "Legilimens" and the events of last night appeared before him. "What happened next Potter? One moment you are scrawling that filthy message on the parchment and the next you awake several hours later, and Umbridge is nowhere to be seen." "I don't know professor, I must have passed out. I was starting to feel faint, and then the next thing I knew I was alone in her office." Snape eyed him curiously, it wasn't his normal loathing stare, but this one was piercing as if he thought Harry was hiding something from him. "Tell me when you awoke and discovered that Umbridge was no longer with you, why did you not inform a teacher or a prefect Potter? Did you have any idea where she was, or did you not care?" "Honestly I thought she was just a mean bitch who went to bed instead of helping an injured student who had passed out because of something she had done, so I left." "10 points from Gryffindor for insulting a professor Potter, I think we are done here, for now, go back to the great hall and eat, I expect you to be on time for potions this afternoon." "Sir why you and not Dumbledore? Why couldn't he be the one to question me, he was afterall the one who sent me to see you." "I don't question the headmaster, and neither should you, now if you don't leave my office in the next 5 seconds you will have detention with me tonight, and you don't want that Potter. Unless you like handling Doxy eggs with your bare hands, and with those new cuts too." At that Harry quickly left his office and headed for lunch.
Dolores Umbridge was never seen or heard from again. It was rather strange, it was only a few weeks into the new year, usually the DADA professor doesn't have something happen to them until the end of term. No one, except for perhaps Filch and the Slytherines, minded it too much that she had decided to leave. Hagrid could have sworn to have seen what looked to be some pink wool caught on a tree branch the next time he went to visit Aragog, but he didn't think much of it. If someone was dumb enough to go this deep into the forest, they shouldn't be surprised at what they find.
(The reason I said it was his first time extracting his memory twice, is because he couldn't remember doing it the first time, at least that is what it is supposed to mean to me.)
