I bid Ash and his friends a farewell, we never truly did finish our battle, but I didn't mind that. Who knows? I might actually take part in Gym Battles, after I'm done exploring the globe. Snowy seemed to enjoy it, and Ruby looked pretty happy to watch it. After the last few days I just wanted to take it nice and slow.
I whipped out my journal, I had been keeping logs of every day ever since I stepped out the door only a week and three days ago. On the very last page I had a list of towns and cities I wanted to visit, I crossed off Lumiose, and next on the list was a town named Vulcan Village. I took out the note card and smiled, the town wasn't too far away from where we were. I looked at the sun, it was slowly setting in the west.
After Davaid had went to sleep, I stuck my head in his backpack, and took out his Journal, "psst, Ruby," the Houndoom came over. She tilted her head at the sight of the notebook, "what's that?" I started to explain to Ruby that humans liked to keep record of certain events, and what a journal was.
Snowy flipped to the first page of the book, "how can humans read that?" I asked staring at the weird symbols, "guys… what are you doing?" Asked Davaid, who had raised his head. He rubbed the sleepiness out of his eyes. His eyes didn't widen at all, "ah, I see."
I honestly couldn't be mad, they've been with me since day two of my journey, so there really wasn't much to hide from them.. I picked up the book, "well, if you want, I can read this old thing out for you," my best friends nodded, "alright… let's see here."

My journey started today, I don't know if I'll be getting a Pokemon for this journey, and I didn;t mind that. I did meet this scary Houndoom, who was stuck in a trap however. Looking back at it now, I want to slap myself for thinking about leaving it there for the poacher to pick off. She cuddled up with me for tonight though. I don't really know if she'll want to be my Pokemon though.

The Houndoom actually decided to come with me on this journey! I don't know if it's because she actually wanted to, or felt indebted to me. She does have a name now, Ruby, and no matter the reason for her coming with me I love her to bits. I also had an interview with this lady named Malva? I heard she was an Elite 4 member or something like that. Best of all, is that Snowy had been following me ever since I left, if it weren't for her, I wouldn't be writing this now, and for that I'm ever thankful!
Daviad closed the journal and yawned, "alright guys, let's go to bed, I'm as tired as a Snorlax," I said, slipping the book into my bag, I laid back down. Ruby and Snowy had snuggled up with me. I couldn't keep myself from smiling, Ruby had been healing very quickly ever since she ate that Oran Bar. I hugged both of them, and drifted off to sleep.
After we had woken up, I rolled Ruby over on to her back by accident while getting up, and I saw an opportunity. I knelt down beside her, and started rubbing her belly. She quickly woke up out of instinct, before realising it was just me petting her. She closed her eyes, and started relaxxing even more. I eventually had to stop, so I could prepare breakfast for the three of us. I hadn't set up a tent, since for the last few nights, I haven't been usiing it.
I nudged Snowy, who was sleeping like a rock. She still didn't wake up, so I picked up, and also gave her a belly rub, "wakey, wakey girl," I said gently. Snowy finally woke up, and I set her back on her feet. We had a quick breakfast, and we were out on the road again. I pulled out my map tomake sure we weren't heading in the wrong direction.
The sun was high in the sky when I saw the town in sight, "hey Snowy, you might like this place," I looked at the sign looming over the entrance. We were here in Vulcan town, I quickly whipped out a pocket journal, and flipped through the pages. I knelt down and pointed at a line about Vulcan Town, "this place loves their Vulpix and Ninetales."
We stepped through the gates, I could smell a lot of Vulpix, and a couple of Ninetales. Davaid had been stopped by a stranger holding a Kantonian Vulpix, "hello young man, welcome to our town!" He handed Davaid the little fox in his arms, "uh… why are you giving me your Pokemon?" He asked, "it's tradition for our town to welcome travellers with a baby Vulpix," explained the man, he smiled, and then walked off.
Shortly after the stranger departed, we took a seat on a bench, "it didn't say anything about this tradition on the article page," said Davaid while fondling the Vulpix kit. Ruby got up to sniff the little Pokemon, "hello!" I said, "good afternoon!" At a minimum the Vulpix was polite. He sat up on Davaid's lap, tails wagging, and he jumped up to study hiim.
After a day like yesterday, this was a surprise that I welcomed, and it was a needed one. While nothing like this was nevver described in the news articles about Vulcan Village, I might as well take care of this little guy, "now I gotta come up with a name for you..." ideas started surging through my head. I quickly remembered my foreign language class,"Volpsei?" I said. Vulpix barked in response, "Volpsei it is!" I began to scratch the back of his head. He was a sweet little fella.
I was already liking my new trainer, he wasn't screaming all time like a child, and he was nice. I leaned into his palm, the weird looking Ninetales climbed up the bench, and began licking my face. The Houndoom was also quite nice, she wasn't a snarling all the time like I heard from the stories about them. What made today even better was I was given a name, while it was simply something I would be called by, it also meant I mattered.
I began licking Volpsei's face, I couldn't possibly explain why I was already attached to the little guy, and I don't think I will. Perhaps it was because he was just a kit, "oh right!" Davaid took out his journal, "I think there's a little tradition we should get ready for!" I tilted my head, whatever it was, I hope it would be fun.
Some of you may recognize the second half of this chapter, and for good reason. Originally it was meant to be apart of chapter 13, but I changed it shortly after, but I didn't want the idea to go to waste. So after the mood changed from the seriousness of the chapter 12, 13 and 14, I felt this would be a better time for a slightly more lighthearted bunch of chapters.
I also got the idea of logs, because in Diamond and Pearl(the first Pokemon games I've played, when you reopen the games after saving, it'll show you a few pages in a jounral/diary type of thing.
Sorry about the long A/N, and I'll see you in the next one.
