Today was the day. Your very first day at your new school after only a few days of unpacking and getting accustomed to La Push. To say you were nervous was an understatement.

Your parents had turned your entire world upside down by forcing you to go and live in La Push with your grandparents while they traveled for work. It wasn't that you didn't LOVE your grandparents or anything, but, you had left all of your friends and the life you once knew back in Texas, and now you were being forced into a new school on reservation with a bunch of kids that you didn't know and a new life you didn't even ask for or agree to.

"Deep breath, Y/N" you nervously whispered to yourself before getting out of your grandpa's old Chevy he so graciously gifted to you to officially welcome you to town. As you headed up to the front of the school, you kept your eyes low, glancing up only every few seconds to make sure you didn't run into anyone.

As the front of the school came closer in your vision, the crowd of students began to thicken, and you frantically began looking around for some sort of sign to point you in the right direction of the administration office. You whipped your head to the right only to see more students talking in their friend groups about their weekend, and you couldn't help the pang of jealousy you felt in wishing your friends were here with you.

"Jared, you idiot!"

You quickly turned your head to the left where you heard the loud girly shriek coming from to see a girl with long brown hair and a purple hair barrette on each side of her head to help keep her hair pinned in place, struggling to pry herself from two muscular arms of a russet skin boy who wore a huge grin upon his face. Next to the assumed couple was a tall lanky boy of the same russet skin color who laughed along with the first boy at the fun torment of the girl The lanky boy tapped the third and final boy in the group to get his attention at what was happening.

Now this boy...(or man?) was the most handsome of the three, with the least friendliest face. He stared intently at his phone seemingly ignoring the horseplay happening less than 3 feet beside him, but his attention was soon taken away from his phone as another girl entered the group. Her hair was longer than the first girl, and had a slight loose curl look. Her pink backpack was thrown over one shoulder, but was quickly thrown to the wayside as she approached the third boy, wrapping her arms around his neck and going in for a tight embrace. The third boy seemed to lose the hard-ass face he once held, and you tore your gaze away right before he noticed you staring. You regained your focus and continued straight ahead to the admin office to receive your schedule and books before heading off to your first class.

TIME SKIP

Your first 4 classes of the day seemed to fly by with only a few awkward introductions to your classmates that your teachers forced and getting lost trying to find your classes . Now it was time for lunch, and you had honestly dreaded this moment all day due to your lack of friends to sit with.

As you entered the lunch line, you saw the same group of russet skin boys and the two girls sitting at a table off to the side, with one extra curly headed boy added in sitting next to the lankier one from earlier. You caught yourself staring again, but managed to miss the gaze of the hard-ass who was facing you as his assumed girlfriend snuggled up next to him.

"Hey! You're the new girl, right?" Your eyes met a familiar face from your second period, and a sense of comfort washed over you at the thought of possibly having a friend.

"Yeah..Y/N. My name is Y/N." You responded with an outreached hand.

His handshake was firm. "Chaz. Chaz Smith. Nice to meet ya! Come sit with us?" He pointed over to a table with 2 other boys and a girl who looked like they were in a semi-intense debate. You nodded and followed behind Chaz to the table.

"Hey guys! Check it out. New girl coming in hot!" They all raised their eyes toward me and each gave a soft 'hey' before going back to their previous conversation. You were glad to not have to give another awkward introduction of yourself and took a seat next to Chaz.

"How are you liking the school so far? Anyone giving you a hard time?"

"Well, I'm definitely not in Texas anymore, that's for sure. Having trouble navigating the school a bit though. It feels like a maze."

"I can totally show you around. I know this school like the back of my hand, and I can give you the ins and outs of all the cliques in school." He slowly began scanning the cafeteria before landing his sights on the table of the russet skin boys. "Like them" he exclaimed.

"Them? What's wrong with them? They seem nice" you stated with a confused look on your face. Of course you didn't know if they were truly nice, but they hadn't done anything to you to make you think otherwise.

"They're in a gang," he confidently explained. "I would definitely advise to steer clear."

"How are you so sure that's true?" You asked, not so convinced by the rumor.

Chaz seemed to ignore your question and instead began identifying the boys at the table one by one.

"The one with the super curly hair and goofy grin, that's Quill Ateara. The lanky one next to him, Embry Call. The girl with the barrettes is Kim and her boo thing, Jared Cameron. And last, but certainly not one to be messed with is, Paul Lahote, and his stuck up girlfriend for the month, Chelsea." He took a swig of his carton of milk and continued, "Trust me. You definitely don't want to get caught up in that mess."

I kept my gaze at the table trying to memorize the names Chaz had told me. I must have been caught in the moment a little too long, because once I snapped out of it, I noticed Kim looking over at me with a soft grin. My cheeks began to burn as I looked back at my plate of uneaten lunch food and prayed to myself that the day would soon end.

TIME SKIP

Finally. School was over, and I was ready to head home to call my friends and divulge to them about my first day. I headed over to my parking space, and suddenly felt a cold sweat overtake my body when I saw the group Chaz had warned me to stay away from leaning against the cars parked next to mine.

Did Kim tell them I was staring earlier at lunch?I wondered. Maybe I should just walk home and leave the car here until later?I shook my head and took a deep breath to calm my nerves.

No Y/N. You can do this. Just keep looking straight and get to the car. Don't be a scaredy cat. Keep walking. The self-hype in your head somehow worked and you felt yourself moving closer and closer to the car. As you approached, you began to feel the gangs eyes on you, causing you to shift your eyes further downward toward the pavement.

Just keep walking Y/N...They probably can't even see y-..

"Hey!" You heard a cheerful voice coming from directly infront of you. "You're Y/N, the new girl. I'm Kim."

"Hi." You managed to let out in a slight whisper.

Kim was standing leaned against Jared as his arms wrapped around her waist, leaning against a car. Quill and Emery were also standing next to them eyeing you up and down. Paul was nowhere to be seen, and you somehow felt less intimidated without his hard-ass presence around.

"You're Greg and Lucy's granddaughter, right? They were so excited to have you coming to town to live with them. You should come and hangout with us at the beach this evening. We'd love to officially welcome you to La Push." Her smile was so convincing and welcoming, but the nagging of Chaz's advice in the back of your head made you uneasy.

"Um, well, I have a lot of unpacking to do still, and I'm not sure my grandparents would want me out on a school night. Plus,I have homework."

"Aww come on. We won't be out too late. And, the teachers will give you some slack on homework since you're new! It'll be fun!" She excitedly exclaimed.

She seemed very persistent, and you figured you could use a few more friends, and even better, make your own judgement on the so called gang rather than listening to rumors. Before you could let out a response, a booming voice came from behind you-

It was Paul. He was even more handsome up close, and you couldn't help but let your jaw drop.

"Come on guys, let's go. Let's get this meeting over with so I can go pick up Chelsea for the bonfire tonight." Quill and Embry quickly loaded into the jeep as Paul climbed into the drivers seat.

"So, whattya say, Y/N? You coming tonight?" Kim asked again, as she turned her body toward the car to get in.

Paul turned his head at the sound of Kim's voice and your eyes immediately locked as you hadn't broken your gaze from his initial walk up to the group.

The way Paul was looking at you made you feel a little self conscious.

Is there something on my face? You thought. Maybe he's giving me a taste of my own medicine by awkwardly staring at me like I had done to them earlier.

You suddenly found yourself lost in Paul's eyes with no thought of looking away until Kim's voice broke your focus-

"Y/N? You okay?" she sounded worried.

"Yeah. I'll see you tonight. Bye."

You practically ran over to your car and started the engine just before taking another glance to Paul's drivers window which was now rolled down. His hands looked like they were gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly, and he was taking large, deep breaths, as though he had seen a ghost and narrowly escaped from a haunted house.

Your body felt warm, even without your car heater on, and you felt a sudden urge of wanting to check to make sure he was ok. Instead, you put your car in reverse and headed out of the school parking lot and toward your grandparents home, still feeling warm, and actually, for some reason, now looking forward to the bonfire later tonight.

What a weird first day.

okay, chapter 1 is just an intro into everything, but stay tuned! This is going to get good!*
