"The Alpha's been defeated!" yelled a voice, Mom's heartbeat dropped, "I am your new Alpha now, and so the rules are going to change!" the voice was full of anger, "Mom, what's going on?" she was silent, for once Mom didn't have an answer, in fact, she was scared for the first time we could see. Shortly after Alpha limped into our den, he was cut up and beaten badly, "Damian!" we all rushed to his side. Even though I had just met him mere moments ago, Mom treated him like a friend, and a friend of hers, is a friend of ours.

"What happened?" asked my brother, "that newcomer was a bit more than I could handle… he's at least letting me stay in the pack, but as a lower rank in it," he sighed. He looked mad, he looked beat emotionally, but most of all, he was scared, just as scared as Mom. I waddled up to him to comfort him, while trying my best not to accidentally step on his wounds. My brother and sister even started comforting him, "all runts from this point forth will be banished from our pack, if they do not leave, they will be executed on the spot!"

That got me scared, "runts are stupid and weak, they are just a waste of food that could easily be given to their stronger siblings!" yelled the new Alpha. Mom and Damian looked at me, "dear, I want you to run as far from here as possible, don't stop running until you see a river," Mom looked like she was losing a part of herself, I didn't want to leave her when she was looking like that, I rubbed my head against her face to try and comfort her. She smiled weakly at me, "hey sis…" my brother licked my face, "stay safe out there," my sister licked my face as well.

After I stepped out of the den, I had second thoughts, I could stay and die, or I could run away and still possibly die! I didn't even know how to hunt yet, I might have tried to look strong in the cave, but I broke down. I was running away while crying my eyes out, I hated the new Alpha, I hated his rules, but I hated myself the most. Had I not been the runt, I wouldn't be forced to run for my life. I couldn't hate my siblings, nor did I wish this upon either of them. They weren't the ones responsible for my banishment, and I loved them too much to want this to happen to them.

I did as my mother told me, I stopped running after I ran the shores of a long water way… was this a "river?" my first time out of the den, it was something I would've been happy to hear a week ago, but I couldn't be happy, I was driven away from my home because of some Houndoom's stupid beliefs. I sat down and cried even more, I had always cried when I was only a couple of weeks old, but unlike those first few weeks, I had nobody to comfort me.

After what felt like hours of endless crying, I heard something step out of the bushes, "looks like a Houndour got lost in our territory," I was scared, a pack of Lycanrocs were standing in front of me. They were nearly as big as Damian, they started circling me, I was going to die for sure. One of them approached, they heard howling off in the distance, "sounds like our friend Damian got dethroned," said one of them. I felt one of them sniff me, I suddenly felt something pick me up by scruff, "you must be from his pack then."

I kept my eyes closed, I didn't want to open them. I was settled on the ground, I smelt even more of them, "Alpha! We found one of Damian's pups," said the one who had carried me. I could hear pawsteps as they got closer and closer, "open your eyes young one," I did as I was told. A Lycanroc was staring into my eyes, he was sniffing me intently. He nodded, "smells just like him, this one is Damain's pup," he sat down, "well little one, there's no need to be scared. Just tell me what happened, "I don't know… Damian just walked into our den to test our fire's strength, and then he went out to face a challenger," the Lycanroc nodded, "I assume he lost the fight, otherwise you wouldn't be here."

He picked me up and carried me to his own den, "well, I'm going to keep you safe for my friend's sake. Your father was quite the respectable Houndoom y'know," he said, setting me on the ground. Those words finally sank in, that only made me feel even worse, I didn't get a chance to get to know him. I held my head low, the Lycanroc walked over to me and licked my tears away. He picked me up again, and laid down. He laid me in front of him, and laid his head over me.

I looked at this poor pup, I assumed her pack's new alpha probably wasn't the nicest person in the world. I knew Damian definitely wasn't perfect either, but he at least strived to better himself each day. Judging from this one's size, she was a runt, and was probably chased out for being a runt. That was usually what Houndoom packs did to the weakest pup of each litter, chase them out, or kill them. I was going to respect my puphood friend, and keep his pup safe from harm until she at least evolved.
