I woke up, the sunlight sent a searing pain, and I quickly closed my eyes again. I blinked constantly, trying to get used to how bright it was. I got up out of instinct, expecting to be able to greet my mother and siblings again, only to see Lycanroc's face… the hard truth about reality hit like a Giga Impact. I wasn't too enthusiastic as I was when I woke up. I waddled to the end of the cave, and laid down. I face towards the wall, then went back to sleep.

I nudged the little pup, she didn't even have a name, typically Pokemon out in the wild aren't given names, and are generally called by physical traits that they have, "what do you want?" she looked annoyed, but I could tell she was more depressed than anything, "you need to get up, your mother wouldn't want you to wallow in a cave all day, now would she?"

I groaned, I got up on my paws, and walked to the mouth of the den. I kept on walking, only to bump into another Lycanroc, the very one that carried me here yesterday, "you need to watch where you're going, little one," I nodded, I knew I needed to learn how to hunt, but I lacked the motivation to do anything. Not without Mom, Brother, and Sister there to keep me company. I just wandered aimlessly across the densite, waiting for the day to end.

Eventually the Alpha stopped me on my 10th trip around the densite, "if you want, I could teach you how to hunt," he offered, his friendly smile won me over. I nodded, "now, all you've got to do is make sure you move as quietly as possible, and just..."

Several weeks have passed since that day, I was going quickly, now nearly double the size of some of the Rockruff in the pack. I have picked up hunting, and I was getting better at it. Whether I liked it or not, the Alpha was my family now, but even he knew that he couldn't replace Mom or my siblings. Still, I felt some amount of comfort each time I laid by his side at night, and I did love him like he was my father.

I was nearly my old self again, albeit I was still depressed about the incident, but the painful memories were starting to fade. I was walking around the densite, waiting until afternoon to hunt, "look! It's that Houndour!" said one of the Rockruff, he was bigger than I was, and was grinning at me. I paid him no mind, "I bet your pack got rid of you because-" I just stopped listening to him. He clearly got his kicks stomping on a newborn's dreams.

I started walking away from him after the sun was high in the sky. I wanted to get as good as possible at hunting before I evolved. I wanted to be self sufficient, since the last time I was in a pack, it didn't turn out well. I needed to be ready for when I would eventually, and probably, be kicked out of the pack. If not by Alpha, I know he wouldn't, but by "Humans" some of which kill, kidnap, or steal Pokemon for fun! At least when a Pokemon hunts another down, it's for survival, these "Humans" didn't even eat the carcusses of the Pokemon they kill!

I quickly pinned down a Rattata, broke its neck, and hit it with an Ember. I ate it quickly before returning back to the densite, "Alpha! Some humans are getting close to the densite! They've got nets and rifles!" I fucking knew it, my life was just starting to get better again, and it goes right back to being bad again, "no need to worry, they won't be able to find us unless they have Pokemon with them," said the Alpha. His advisor nodded, "but it wouldn't hurt to take precautions, get the females and pups, and have them take shelter."

Moments later I heard yelling and barking, "Alpha! They're getting closer!" after his advisor said this, he was immediately detained by a net, "no!" he yelled, "Alpha, forget about me! The pack comes first!" yelled the advisor. I was fucking mad, for a second time in my life I was being drived away from my home, "young one, I want you to run as far away from here as you can!" I nodded. I now knew exactly what humans were, I fucking hated them, one day I'm going to return the favor to individuals of this awful disgrace of a race.

I kept running, I honestly don't think I could cry again, the last time I had shedded any tears, it was the first time I was being driven away from the place I called home. The sheer amount of hatred the blood inside my veins began pumping, I was bursting with energy, and I was engulfed in light. I couldn't feel my ears, my tail felt significantly longer than it was before, evolution felt weird, my very body changed shape and size, but it wasn't painful. It made me start shaking in excitement, I felt something pouring into my inner flame… I was a Houndoom! I couldn't wait to test out my new strength on a human!

I began to grin at what new possibilities awaited now that I had finally evolved.

All the chapters for this mini series are completed, and it was a total of 4 chapters long, so a bit on the short side, but I didn't want this mini story to overstay its welcome. The next(and final chapter for Howling Fire will be out roughly around the same time as this one comes out.)
