*Blink*

He was awake, suddenly and immediately. It was like one of those naps where it felt like no time had passed at all. He found himself lying facedown on a concrete floor, cheek pressed against the cold stone, and dressed in his underpants and bathrobe (this morning's ill advised attire). The place was cold and quiet. A little colder and quieter than Iori was comfortable with. He quickly scrambled to his feet, and tied his bathrobe tightly about himself. Damn… why was it so cold?

"... what the fuck..."

He muttered to himself and looked around. He was in… a concrete room, perhaps six feet wide. There were no doors or windows, and the only light source was a single fluorescent tube attached to the ceiling. There was also… a camera lens?

"Riot, what happened?"

"Hey… Riot?"

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA-

Iori shook the noise out of his head. Riot was just as confused as he was. He didn't know anything. Iori sighed, leaned his back against one of the cube's walls and attempted to recall the chain of events that led him here. He stared down at his neon-green flip flops and pondered.

This morning, he'd woken up, showered, made some coffee, then… then his fingers stopped working?... Yeah, his fingers had become stiff and non-compliant, and he recalled having to quickly put his coffee on the counter, lest he drop the mug. He had been very concerned with that - yes. He really didn't want to clean anything up this morning…

But then, instinct fired off - and he realized it wasn't just his fingers that weren't listening to him. In his effort to leap away from potential danger, his knee buckled and he found himself flopping on his kitchen floor, half-paralyzed, like a terrified fish on a dock.

Then… two darts to the back, and… he didn't recall anything after that.

"Shit, Riot. We got shot."

AAAAAAAAAA-

"Yeah. I didn't see them either..."

AAAAAAAAAAAA-

"Kidnapped? Who would kidnap us?"

AAAAAAAA-

"Yeah, I guess it doesn't matter."

Iori shrugged and approached the opposing wall, activating the aura around his fingertips. He had been kidnapped - and in some idiotic lapse of judgement, his kidnappers failed to incapaciate him in any way before locking him in this box. Honestly, Iori hadn't been kidnapped in a while. In the past, while he was younger and much less experienced, he got kidnapped all the time by rival gangs. All of them intended to use him as a hostage for negotiations with the underworld's rising star, the Yagami Clan.

Of course, things turned out the way one would expect. Iori burned down the headquarters of everyone who ever kidnapped him - unless they fed him really well. In that case he only burned down half of the headquarters. Regardless, over the course of 6 months, it became glaringly obvious that it was terribly unproductive to have Iori Yagami locked in your basement. People just stopped trying to do it - because Iori was quite capable of breaking himself out of almost anything.

"Let's get outta here, Riot."

AAAAAAAAAA-A-A-

Iori frowned as his split personality pinged danger at him. Danger? What sort of danger? There was nobody else in this concrete box except the two of them. It was also eerily quiet. No grinding of gears. No footsteps. No hum of mechanisms. Nothing - besides for the camera lens embedded in the corner, and the fluorescent tube on the ceiling. Innocent enough. Even if there was danger outside, he would just have to deal with it… right? What was Riot so worried about…

Ignoring the warnings, Iori touched the cold wall with his fingertips and drew his arm back - focusing keenly on the concrete before him. With an exhale, and a lunge his aura sheared through the concrete and he plunged his arm through the stone - all the way to his shoulder. With the flick of his wrist, he yanked his arm free and crouched down - intending to peek through the hole and see where he was being held.

Instead, he got a facefull of seawater.

AAAAAAAAAAAA-

"Oh f- (glarble)"

The water pressure was tremendous, and also icy cold. It flooded into Iori's little concrete box, and - without thinking much - he jammed his arm back into the hole and melted some of the surrounding concrete into the worst repair job of the century. At this point, ice water running down his sleeve was the least of his worries.

Because not only was he up to his ankles in icewater (and he hated the cold), the air… did the air suddenly seem thinner?

Of course it was thinner… he was standing in an underwater air bubble, and decided to light up. It felt like that relatively small flame had consumed upwards of half the oxygen in the room. Of course it had. Yagami flames were hot, and Iori had just fucked himself. Now, there was literally nothing else to be done, then stand there in his soaking bathrobe and try not to die from hypothermia. Obviously whoever had kidnapped him didn't want him dead, otherw-

*zzzt- kzzt… Ello? Is this on? Thump. Thump*

Iori jumped, then looked around. There was no speaker visible, so he looked at the camera. The voice over the comms was rather cheerful. It contrasted quite sharply with Iori's current predicament.

*Hey! Mornin' Sunshine. My name is… well, I'm not gonna tell you, but you can call me Big Man. I'm gonna be babysitting you today! Sound like fun?*

Iori filled his lungs to shout.

"No! Fuck you, let me out!"

The cheerfulness never left Big Man's voice. He seemed to be having a bit of fun.

*Haha, sorry kiddo, no can do. You know how this works already… lucky for you, I'm supposed to keep you alive. Looks like you made that hard for me, huh? The water's cold at 100 feet in the PortTown Bay. You doing okay?*

Iori glowered at the camera. Riot chattered in his head.

*No? Well… uh… try to stay out of the cold - right? If you didn't have so little air - I'd recommend you dry off… but for now just try to stay awake or that nasty, nasty hypothermia will get to ya. Hey, I saw in a movie once that somebody pulled off their fingernails so the pain kept them awake! Maybe you should try that. But let me know so I can record you. Hey, you can even yell as loud as you want - no problem. Try not to use too much oxygen though, cuz you're not allowed to die, remember? Anyways-…(etc…)*
