Pilot - I

Low. Silent. Hidden.

That was what was going through his mind in this exact instant as he evaded yet another black beast that somehow came from nowhere.

Low.

Another one strode out from its hiding place in the bush, which was met with a sharp sliver of steel through its throat.

Silent.

He quickly climbed a tree and took care not to make too much noise as he scrambled to a high enough branch. His rifle nearly fell off his shoulder, but he caught it before it could fall.

Hidden.

The rest of the pack stalked by below him, and he let out a quiet breath of relief.

This day was not his day. At all.

He looked down. The beasts in question were gone, likely having grown bored of hunting such a stubborn prey. That did not ease his mind for a second, but he had a moment to breathe at the very least.

He checked the area around him and listened carefully. All that he could hear was dead silence; the beasts were gone. He carefully climbed back down the tree and skulked off deeper into the forest intent on getting some answers, and potentially finding some form of civilization.

Until then, he only had his survival instincts to guide him, wherever they may have taken him.
