It came out of nowhere. The ground just started to break apart as a giant hole formed and headed towards the outpost Yang, Jaune and Ren took shelter in. Ren was the first to notice it and warned the other two. Thankfully, Yang was able to fix the hoverbike in time and all three climbed on and zoomed off just as the fissure reached the outpost. The small building was there and then gone, deep into the dark abyss below.
"Where did that sinkhole come from?!" Yang exclaimed as she drove.
"I don't know! I just heard rumbling and that's it!" Ren said, holding on to Jaune's back.
"I thought you could sense things before they happen!"
"Not sinkholes!"
"Not such a hotshot now, huh?"
"I-WHAT?!"
"Is now really a good time to be arguing?!" Jaune exclaimed.
Yang stepped on the gas as the sinkhole grew bigger and closer. It soon became too difficult for Yang to see clearly as the speed reached to a point of being unable to concentrate on what's right in front of her. And it's because of this she was unable to avoid a stone and nearly caused it to trip. The bump caused Ren to lose his grip around Jaune's waist and was thrown off the hoverbike. It was as if everything slowed down as Jaune reached out for the ninja…
…only to miss his hand by a sliver and Ren falls into the fissure.
"REN!" Jaune and Yang exclaimed. Yang kicks the brakes to stop the hoverbike. She and Jaune held on tight as to not get flung. Thankfully, the sinkhole seems to have stopped its growth. However, it was much too deep for either Jaune or Yang to see anything, not that it would have mattered due to it still being nighttime.
"Ren! Can you hear us? Are you all right?" Jaune asked, his voice echoing down.
"Ren!" Yang called out. They were given no answer. No confirmation, no sound, nothing. Yang backs up a bit. "What are we gonna do?" Jaune looks around and finds the crater in the horizon.
"…Let's head back to the crater," he said.
"What?! Why? Ren's down there with only Gods know what. He could need our help!" Yang protested.
"And what do we do? We don't know how deep it is. It wouldn't be a good idea to just jump down there when we have no idea what we're in for," Jaune explained. "Ren should have enough Aura to sustain himself for the time being. Let's hurry back to the crater, find some rope and light and maybe some help, and return here."
"But…" Yang sighs reluctantly. "…okay." With a heavy heart, the pair mounted back on the hoverbike and drove off to the direction of the crater.
The first thing Ren was able to comprehend was pain. Soreness was all over his body and it would have been worse if not for his Aura. The next thing he noticed was the silvery light of the shattered moon as he carefully picks himself up with a small hiss. His Aura may have saved him from grievous injury, the soreness is still apparent. When his eyes finally adjusted to the low light of the moon, he takes in his surroundings. Excavation equipment, some dust crystals…is he in an abandoned mine? He looks up at the hole above him. It looked like he fell about 1000 feet (he was lucky to still have his Aura) or so and the walls were clearly unstable, so grappling himself out was out of the question. The moon has nearly reached its high point, meaning he was out for only a few minutes. Ren takes a moment to recall what had led him hear.
Oscar kidnapped…the chase…saving Jaune and Yang…stranded in the tundra…the argument…the sinkhole…
"Jaune!" he called out. There was no answer. "Yang!" Again nothing. He growls in frustration. "Great. Just great. As if things couldn't get any worse. First, we lost the relic. Second, we lost Oscar. Third, we're stranded in the tundra. And now, here I am, stuck 1000 feet below the surface, all ALONE!" That one word echoed around the cavern. The reverberation sparked a realization.
Surrounding him are the dust crystals, as well as his reflection, thanks to the moonlight. At every direction he looked, he only say himself...and only him.
He was…alone.
No Weiss. No Blake. No Ruby. No Oscar. No Yang. No Jaune…No Nora.
Just he, himself.
Only him.
Is your goal to push everyone away?
As the realization settled in, Ren could feel all his stress, anger, rage, frustration and irritation reach a fever pitch and all he could do is scream. He screamed and screamed until his throat felt raw and his lungs hurt. And when his voice starts to crack, he opts to release more tension by hitting, punching, and kicking a nearby machine, no matter how much it hurt his hands and feet. With one punch hard enough to dent the rusted metal, Ren lets out one more agonizing scream that left him breathless. The cold air starts to make his throat raw from the heavy breathing.
Ren lowered down between two rusted over excavation machine. He pulls his legs up and hug them. He stayed like that silently, with only the sound of wintery wind up above.
"…Alone…" he muttered, his voice cracking with sadness and regret. He could feel tears threatening to spill over and he buries his face in his knees. He silently cries to himself. "Damn it…"
He truly is alone.
