Leaving his friends behind to go with grandpa to America. It was shortly after Atem and Yugi parted when grandpa told him his store wasn't going well and they needed to move out and find another location.
Lots off shouting came from mostly Yugi's side because he finally had the change to live a normal teenage life with his friends without the need to save the world every time.
On top of that he was depressed because Yugi missed the presence of Atem badly, his heart had a whole and he felt like he had no way of closing it. With tears in his eyes he said goodbye to his dear friends, and prepared himself to begin his senior year at a strange and new school only one month after the start of the new school year.
They landed late yesterday night, and today he already is going to his new classes, he hopes he can make new friends knowing how much struggle he had all those years ago and how easy Atem helped him out.
He enters the school and notice directly how dirty it looks, paper wraps empty cans laying everywhere in the hall, it is that the students use the toilets to do their business because with how filthy it looks, Yugi is almost certain some of them will use the hallway for the easiness, it's nothing like domino high, where the halls and classrooms were cleaned at the end of the day by the selected students for that week. How do they clean here? How will the kids here become independent and have a clean nature if the school for starters looks like this?
Walking to the office to get his schedule Yugi sees most of the students don't even notice him, earbuds in their ears blasting music so loud he wonders if they still are able to listen and if they even do listen, if not they already destroyed their eardrums, let alone talk to another students. He lets out a deep sigh and sees his target.
Knocking on the door he politely waits until the door opens or they call him in, but when none of that happens he decide to knock again when a booming voice screeches to come in. shocked by the rudeness he walk inside and a stern. "Do you really think I have the time and need to call out every time you knock? Who the hell are you?!" comes towards him when a female demands with a tone he wants to piss his pants, turn, run out, crawl in grandpa's lap and cry about the mean lady who yelled at him like he did when he was still little.
But instead he says in his best English. "My name is Yugi Muto Miss, I'm new and I was told to come towards here for my schedule."
"Here." Is her curt replay after a quick look on her computer, handing him a stack of papers and waves towards the door, great, she didn't give him the directions to his first class. Sigh, he doesn't feel for her wrath again so he look to the map trying to figure out where he must be.
It took him 15 minutes to find his classroom, there goes his reputation for being on time in school, Yugi thinks hoping his teacher will give him this time no lecture because he is new. When he knocks the door, and before he has the time to step back another student is pushed outside the classroom nearly knocking him over. "Come back if you know how to do your homework!" the greying man says harshly to the other student.
Then he looks towards Yugi. "If you are the new kid I already can inform you, tardiness won't be taken lightly over here! Get inside now!" Yugi takes a big gulp and runs past him waiting next to his desk in order for him to give Yugi a seat for the year.
"Class! It seems our new tardy student finally showed his face, you introduce yourself!" he shouts towards him.
Yugi doesn't want to provoke his teacher more so he opens his mouth and says in English. "Hello, my name is Yugi Muto, I am 17 years old, I hope we can be friends." With a polite bow. But when he look up he see the class looking towards him, scanning him, observing him, and the worse of all, looking down on him.
One girl raises her hand, and the teacher allows her to speak. "And how old are you really, and why hiding the fact you're obviously a chick?"
A bit stunned by her harsh way of speaking he tries to blink in confusion. "I'm 17, and most serenely born as a boy!" he calls out taken back by the rude way he being treated.
"Because you look like a child! And act like a bitch! Besides why are you in senior year, if you are truly 17 then you are a year to young!" she cries out in mocking tone.
"Were I came from they never had a problem with my height and my looks." He say confused wondering why she sounded so harsh.
"Then go back were you come from baby girl, you don't belong here!" a boy in the back calls out to him.
Tears start to fill Yugi's eyes, but he bite them back. The teacher calms down his class and says Yugi to take a seat. With his head low he walks to a seat at the back, a foot is stuck out and poor Yugi falls flat on his face. The whole class booms with laughter. "ENOUGH! A tardy student and also a class clown! Never in my complete school career had I had a student with detention the very first day. Now to your seat!"
That hurt, allot, Yugi never had detention before and now on his first day on his new school, can this day go even worse?
He takes out the text books and promise himself to try and fix these mistakes by doing the same he did before ever meeting Joey, Honda and Anzu but mostly Atem. Trying to keep himself as small as possible and hiding for his safety.
"Mister Muto hand over those cards!" the teacher shouts when he brush his hand against his card-porch to take a tissue and wipe his silent tears away. Looking up to the teacher, he stands over Yugi hand outstretched and a smirk plastered on his face. As if he thought Yugi wanted to play to provoke more punishment.
"But why?" He ask innocently. Because he really doesn't have a clue.
"Playing a children's card game." He says with his smirk still plastered on his face and hand still outstretched.
"But I didn't play Sir, my cards are still in their case! I only needed a tissue." he almost cries out.
"Reason enough for me to confiscate it, now hand it over and another day of detention will probably silence you." He says. With a frustrated sigh Yugi clips his belt lose and hands it to the teacher. "Seven days mister Muto. Then you get it back"
Seven days? He just lost his precious deck for seven days? Not until the end of the school day like they did in Japan? No seven whole days, he now won't be able lose his frustrations and pain coursing through his body. Feeling like he wants to cry and scream but for the sake of preventing more detention, he decide to bottle his frustration up.
During break Yugi finds a tree and sit against it, eating his lunch and hope it stays like this for the duration of the day, peaceful.
How wrong he was. A few of his classmates walks over towards him, and the next bottling begins, the girl who spoke to Yugi first this morning grabs him at his throat and pulls him a few feet from the ground. Cursing his small frame and being this light.
Next he gets a punch in his face, followed by a punch to the stomach. What shocks him is when they grab his manhood roughly and squeeze it hard. "Well, what do you know, he isn't a baby girl but a baby boy indeed!" she roars loudly. Throwing him against the tree barely getting the chance to recover himself when he receive punches and kicks again until the school bell announces the end of the break.
The group walks away and Yugi struggles to get up, silently walking towards his next classroom, "Man, I didn't miss this feeling at all." He mutters softly when he has found an empty seat in the back of the class.
Wrestling himself through the final two classes and then an hour detention writing lines like a little boy, before he finally can start his walk home or better said, to the motel they living in for as long as grandpa doesn't have found themselves a place to stay. He greet grandpa and calls out to him he's not hungry and goes straight to bed.
In his bedroom he closes the door and let's himself slide down, for the first time that day the tears start to stream, and he cries.
After a few hours crying he walks to his desk, takes out his homework and start doing that, but it's when he finished his homework and during the packing when he cuts his finger and see the blood coming out and he realises how much he misses those eyes, he misses how they always looked concerned towards him if he was doing something dangerous or stupid with the guys. How they looked if he was telling him to be careful.
How they laughed when he was telling him a funny story about something Joey and Honda did during class. And how they sparkled when he told him about the birds that thought his head was a bird nest when he was on that date with Anzu.
How serious those eyes were looking when he was working all night long to create the perfect deck in order to win Kaiba's first organised tournament.
How happy he looked when Yugi bought him that DVD from the prince of Egypt shortly after he figured he was a pharaoh himself, how he looked it every night thinking Yugi was asleep in his soul-room, but in secret was watching him.
How sweet soft and grateful they looked when he said his final goodbye.
Yugi misses him, so much. The small cut on his finger is dried out, but he want to have more memories to those eyes, so he starts looking for something sharp.
That's how Yugi's depression took him to the next level, he started to cut himself, to take the pain away he had to endure at school, and to think back to those eyes he loved so much.
