Cass grabbed a hold of the moonstone.

Rapunzel looked at her, shocked. "Cassandra, what are you doing?"

"I'm fulfilling my destiny." She grunted as she squeezed the moonstone and a burst of light emitted from the stone. Rapunzel, Eugene, and Pascal went flying back towards the entrance. Cass yelled as she fought to control the moonstone, blue light shooting all around the room.

"No wait!" Jack Frost flew into the flashing light.

"No, Jack, don't!" Rapunzel cried out. But then a huge flash erupted, causing her to close her eyes, as two screams rang out. "Jack, Cass!" Rapunzel opened her eyes, anxious yet afraid of knowing what had happened.

"No!" cried out Cass's voice. Jack stood between her and Rapunzel, the moonstone attached to his staff and a black rock jutting out from the end of his staff, making it look like a spear. He placed the staff into the ground as he knelt, panting hard.

"Jack!" Rapunzel rose.

Jack looked up and smiled at her. "S-sorry, I know this was supposed to be your destiny, but . . ."

"No, it was supposed to be mine!" shouted Cass, hot tears of rage flowing down her cheeks. "That was supposed to be my destiny!" She got up and beat on Jack's back. "That was mine!"

"Cassandra, leave him alone!"

Jack raised his hand, his lips curling into a soft grin. "I got this, Raps." Dark rocks sprung up next to Jack and Cass. It startled Cass and she took a step back, allowing a black rock to spring up between her and Jack.

Cass gasped, then growled. "This isn't your destiny, it's mine! You're really only doing this because you like Rapunzel!" Jack sprung up and glared at her. "It's true, isn't it?" She growled at him. "You're only doing this to get Rapunzel's attention! But face it, Frost, you'll always be second to Eugene."

"What?" said Rapunzel.

"Wait, what?" said Eugene at the same time.

"OK, I can understand why Raps didn't see it," said Lance, "but come on, man, you should have seen that coming!" Eugene and Adira glared at him. "What?"

Cass held out her hand. "Give me the moonstone."

More black rocks sprung up between them. "You really think I'm going to give the moonstone after what you just said?" Cass pulled her hand back as her eyes and mouth dropped. "See, that's part of your problem, you don't quite think everything through. There's a different reason for me to take the moonstone. Now if you don't mind, I need to go." Jack flew off, snowflakes trailing in his wake.

"Jack, wait!" called out Rapunzel, but he kept going. She chased after him, running past Eugene, Adira, and Lance arguing and into the castle. "Jack!" There he was, waiting for her, just outside the castle doors. He turned to her as she ran up to him. "Jack, please tell me what's going on."

He placed a hand on her arm. "I will, just not right now. I don't know everything myself. I'm going to go find the answers . . ."

"But Jack . . ."

He leaned his staff against his shoulder and placed his hands on her upper arms. "It's too dangerous, Rapunzel. I'll bring the moonstone to you when I'm done with it, alright? I promise."

"But . . ." She paused and gasped as Jack kissed her forehead.

"I promise," he whispered, "and I keep my promises."

"I know," Rapunzel whispered back.

"Then wait for me." He kissed her nose. He let go of her, grabbed his staff, and flew off. Rapunzel fell to her knees as she watched him leave. Why did it always feel colder when he left? And this time seemed even colder than before. Was she falling in love with Jack Frost? She glanced back into the castle. But she was in love with Eugene! Right?

"Rapunzel!" She sighed at the sound of Eugene's voice and stood up. There was a more pressing question now. What should they do about Cass?
