Chapter Eight: Indulgence

"You should stay here." The soft voice startled her as she pulled her sweater over her head. She turned toward the presence standing in her door way which was odd since she was sure she had closed the door earlier. Kagome pulled her hair from the sweater and let the ebony strands slip through her fingers. Her cerulean hues met the crimson orbs of the younger boy and she frowned, watching as his eyes traced along her bare legs.

She was still getting dressed, he wasn't supposed to be there, and was in just a white long sleeved top with a red a cross and her black underwear. Her cheeks flushed and she looked away from his roaming eyes, her embarrassment stark but she didn't berate him.

Instead she asked, "What are you doing here, Sho?" Her voice held mild irritation but there was no real bite to her words. She learned quickly that the young Commander did what he wanted, when he wanted. He bowed to no one except the Evangelist and only at the Evangelist's orders.

Sho entered the Spartan room as though he hadn't heard her and closed the door behind him. She crossed her arms under her chest and cocked her hip as he approached. He was fully dressed, prepared for his next mission. He stopped before her, his features in their usual mask of stoic indifference. His hand reached out and he touched her with a calloused thumb swiping at the apple of her cheek.

His soft voice was low and he stepped closer to her, "It is wiser for you to stay behind. There is no reason for you to be in harms way unduly."

He was shorter than her by at least half a foot and two years younger but he always came off as so much larger with how much intimidation dripped from his slight form. Despite his age and stature, she knew a warrior when she saw one and Sho was every bit combat trained.

His eyes didn't stray from hers when his thumb was joined by the rest of his hand and held her cheek. She was sure he could feel the warmth from her cheeks as they deepened to a darker crimson. The longer she was here, he was becoming more and more bold. Taking more liberties with her and her body but she didn't move.

She didn't want to return to that hellscape.

Filled with ash - hot, hot, hot.

Her powers didn't help her there.

In fact they made her a target with a big red bullseye painted on her back.

In that ashy landscape she had learned what it meant to burn alive and be pieced back together all for it to happen again and again.

This world was bathed in flames and there was little she could do to combat that.

The leader of the white clad cultists had said nothing to her before it sent her away and into the arms of the young man currently looking at her with no change in his expression. He had held her to his chest almost tenderly, careful not to touch the bruises and burns along her body before quietly declaring, "You have been gifted to me."

And poor broken Kagome could do nothing but accept that fact if she didn't want to hurt again. Or be killed. Permanently. But Sho wasn't cruel to her - in fact he took care of her as much as he was able. God help anyone that even looked at her wrong - there had been several but they no longer graced the world of the living - and she eagerly soaked up his protection. Some of her power protected her but not much and she never learned how to fight. Her power complimented his though - added an extra boost when she focused.

They called it her gifting grace to him.

She knew her powers came from the Gods but she didn't believe she gave grace. That was a different thing all together but she was able to help him and he was able to harness it easily.

She was brought from her thoughts by the rustling of cloth and he was there, tucking himself just along her collar bone, his nose in her neck. She released a breath and her arms came around him slowly. He was hard to hold in his full armor but she still did so.

"I should go so that I can help you." She finally responded and he made a sound that could have been a sigh against her.

"It will be dangerous." He murmured back, and she felt his warm breath fan along her skin. Her arms tightened almost in fear of being left behind. He felt the tremble in her body and his hands fell to her hips. He closed his eyes and pressed his nose to her pulse against her skin. He didn't understand this feeling that welled within him every time her saw her. Kagome had been given to him and since he knew that she was his - he was loathe for anything to happen to her, hated the fear that entered her eyes when he was sent on missions without her.

Her voice cracked like porcelain, easily shattering the quiet around them, "Please take me with you."

Pulling away, he looked into the panic stricken orbs currently pleading with him. He leaned up and she met him half way. His lips touched hers and he sighed again but this time in pleasure. The fire that burned from within was different then any other flame he had felt. The woman in his arms held nothing back as she kissed him with everything she had. Her power rose and coalesced around them, a gentle warmth and with it came her emotion. Feelings he himself had long ago cast away.

Fear. Despair. Hope.

And something deeper.

She was a creature that felt deeply, he realized when she came to him, the tears barely dried in her cheeks when she fell into his arms that first day. He didn't remember the last time he cried - if ever but her tears always came easily. As did her laughter when she found times to laugh. But she was never angry at him - resigned to her fate. She was always grateful for the protection he gave.

His protection came easily.

Any who would dare raise a hand to her, any that would make those cerulean eyes shed tears would fall to his blade. He made that clear the first few times it had happened.

The Evangelist's were not an easy group to be settled in. Only the strong survived - and he was strong.

The warmth of her power bathed him and brought him back. She was still panicky, but that panic was slowly fading into contentment. He brought his hands to cup her cheeks and he swiped his tongue along her lips before he entered her warm cavern and tasted her. She always tasted sweet to him, tasted of something his mind remembered long ago and he could never really get enough of it.

But when the panic was manageable, he pulled away, eyes half lidded and his lips shining from their exchange. He would never admit to anyone how much he enjoyed indulging in the woman whose breathing harshly mirrored his. Indulgence was something to be frowned upon but he hardly found it in him to care if it had to do with Kagome. Her eyes opened and he held one of her hands loosely in his.

"You must stay by my side if I take you. I cannot protect you otherwise." He stated, his hand tightening on hers. She was a useful tool, he knew, but the thought of her being anywhere near a battle always set his teeth clenching. Her free hand brushed away the snow white bangs from his eyes and she nodded emphatically.

Her smile was easy and whatever fear was left was now gone, "Yes, Sho! I promise to stay close!"

His free hand came around and slipped to the back of her neck and pulled her down again, their lips a hairsbreadth apart, "We have some time before we leave."

And he kissed her again.

Because she was his gift.

And he couldn't stop himself even if he wanted to.

Yeah, I know. I can't stop myself sometimes. i just started season 2 and so expect either a continuation or more pairings. So let's say it's only been a few months since Kagome was in the past. At this point she is 16 and Sho 14. She isn't all powerful, she is just a scared teenager with no idea where she is or how to get home and here is a boy that has already killed to keep her safe. After being given to Sho, he doesn't know what to make of her except she is his. I imagine possession is something he would be able to feel under the circumstances but that's probably it.
