A/N As I've said I'd be changing this chapter up quite a bit and I have. I believe it's a bit shorter than the original version, but that's okay. I hope you guys enjoy 3
"She may be quiet, but she seems to know what to do." Stacie sighed. Aubrey sat on the couch, looking at the knife in her hand. "You okay?" The tall brunette asked quietly. Aubrey shrugged. "I'm just worried." "About Chloe?" Stacie asked. Aubrey looked at her before shaking her head.
Stacie looked to the kitchen, finding Beca, Chloe, and Emily all sitting at the table. Emily and Beca talking while Chloe just listened. If it wasn't Chloe, then what was bothering the blonde?
"Chloe's tough. She's strong. Whatever is bothering her she'll figure it out." Aubrey said quietly. Stacie nodded with furrowed brows. "I'm just concerned on what she might do so she can figure it out."
Aubrey looked to her left at the feel of the couch dipping. Jesse. "She's acted like this before?" He asked with furrowed brows. "Why would you care? You don't even like her." "My girlfriend is her best friend. If Chloe does something irrational then who knows what actions Beca might take." The Treble shrugged.
Aubrey stared at him before rolling her eyes. "I never found out what it was but she was different. Sophomore year, second semester. She distanced herself from everyone and just… she barely spoke to everyone. Hell, she pushed me away. It was like that for months. At… At one point she went somewhere and I don't know where." The blonde finished.
Stacie bit her lip, crossing her arms as she leaned back against the couch. "Something has to be different."
"So as much as everyone would love to stay here, it's not the best idea to get comfortable." Beca said with furrowed brows. "What do you suggest we do?" Emily questioned. Beca looked to Chloe in hopes of getting her to speak. Nothing.
Beca sighed, looking to Emily. "If we want to stay here for as long as we can we gotta trap this place up. I don't just mean this house I mean this street. The good thing about it is it's a dead-end street basically in the middle of nowhere."
"We should start with noise traps." Emily suggested. Chloe brought her hand up. The two girls looked at her with confusion while Chloe awkwardly smiled. "The traps?" Emily asked. Chloe gave a small nod. "Alright, uh… you set them up." Beca said with furrowed brows. Chloe nodded.
"We need to find a schedule as well though. Like cooking and who keeps watch." Emily pointed out. "Yeah, get everyone together and we'll discuss that." Beca said with a small smile. Emily nodded and stood up with Chloe following. However, Beca quickly stopped her. "Chlo, can we talk?"
Chloe looked at Beca as she sat back down, earning a small smile from the tiny brunette. "Hey." The tiny brunette said quietly. Chloe looked at her with confusion. "I uh, just wanted to see how you're doing." Beca shrugged. Chloe hummed. Beca stared at her. "Nothing?" Silence. "Chloe, please." Beca pushed. When she still received no words from the redhead she just shook her head. "Was it something I did?" She tried. Chloe's brows furrowed as she shook her head.
Beca hummed, grabbing Chloe's hand. "I'm here. You know that right?" All Beca got from the redhead was a gentle nod. "Good." She sighed.
Chloe stepped back, looking at the set noise trap in front of her. It was only around the perimeter of the house. The trap connected to trees with empty bottles and cans found from the trash hanging from a fishing line. It's been a long day so that's what was decided, just the perimeter of the house. While Chloe set the traps, the boys checked the perimeter. It had been quite awhile ago that they had passed Chloe and walked into the house.
Chloe sighed, grabbing her knife and the fishing line. As she turned, she found herself suddenly stumbling back. Looking up, she found a guy standing over her, holding what looked to be a pump-action shotgun. The redhead's jaw clenched as she nervously stepped back.
"Are you alone?" The guy asked, blinking his eyes tightly as he breathed heavily. Chloe wasn't sure what to answer so she just remained still. "I asked you-." "Step… the hell away from her." The two heard and looked towards the front of the house just to find Beca and Benji standing together. Beca holding onto a rifle tightly.
Chloe knew damn well Beca didn't know how to handle a gun, not yet at least. As much as she loved the tiny brunette, she also know Beca didn't have the guts to take the life of a human. Even if it came to saving her.
"So there's three of ya." The guy said with his eyes narrowing. Chloe stepped back towards Benji and Beca while the tiny brunette kept her aim on the scruffy haired man.
Chloe let out a shaky breath as the guy smirked. "You don't have the-." The man was cut off when a loud bang sounded through the air making everyone but Beca jump.
"Well damn." The guy laughed loudly. Beca let out a breath as the guy looked between the three.
"How about we just talk about this? Are you looking for a place to stay? Just… Pick a house, any house." Benji tried. The man stared at him, seeming to be thinking.
"What's going on?" Jesse quickly ran up behind Beca, Benji, and Chloe with everyone following him. "He was about to kill Chloe." Beca seethed. "Alright, alright let's uh… let's all calm down a bit." Jesse motioned to the guy and Beca to put their guns down.
When neither did so, he nervously stepped in between them. "What're you looking for?" Jesse tried to ask only for the guy to turn his gun on him.
Chloe looked at the guy before raising her hand up and taking a careful step forward. "Chloe." Beca warned. Chloe ignored her and held a hand out to the guy. This somehow seemed to ease him a small bit as he lowered the gun and looked at her hand that was still waiting.
The redhead thought for a moment before taking her knife and tossing it to the side before looking to Beca. The tiny brunette easily caught on and lowered the gun. The redhead looked back to the guy, giving him a nod. A nod of assurance.
"I… I want food, water… A uh, a bed would be nice too." He said with furrowed brows, still holding his gun tightly. Chloe motioned to his gun. He shook his head. She looked at him for a moment before pointing to the knife that was laying on the ground waiting for an owner. "I like my gun." The guy decided.
"Don't take this the wrong way, but we don't know you." Bumper said with narrowed eyes. "I'm Adam." The dirty blonde haired man answered. "Cool, I'm Beca, the one who almost shot you. Then this is my best friend who you always shot." Beca shrugged with a tight-lipped smile.
Adam looked at Beca before clearing his voice. "You may be small but you're scary." He mumbled. Chloe smirked at this before looking Beca who rolled her eyes. "I'm fun-sized." Beca said quietly.
"Alright, so the girls are all staying in this house and us boys are staying in the one right next to it. You're welcome to join us or you can have a house to yourself. We'll help you search it." Jesse explained. "I uh… I'll stay with you guys." Adam decided, still holding onto his gun.
"Adam, I'd like to ask… were you with anyone when the breakout happened?" Aubrey asked. "I was walking through the city when it happened. I ran into a pawn shop that was deserted found this bad boy. This thing is all I have on me." Adam explained weakly.
Chloe hummed at his response before grabbing her knife from the grass. After doing so she began making her way back to the house.
"Alright, so, we've got some food to make for dinner. Stacie, Aubrey, and Benji will be for making dinner. Chloe, Jesse, and…" Beca stopped and smirked. "Adam, will be for watch." She said with narrowed eyes. Adam looked at her with wide eyes. However, he quickly gave a curt nod. "Yes."
"Everyone else? Just… we need to make sure that everything's in place. If we need to rush out of the area we need to be ready so come up with a way to have things organized and shit like that." Everyone began to follow the redhead's footsteps, Beca keeping her eyes on Adam. She wasn't to sure of him thanks to the fact that he almost shot Chloe, but… no one shot anyone today and taking that shot at him seemed to put him in his place a small bit.
Beca did find it odd though, she found it odd that Chloe was able to calm the guy down just by throwing a knife to the side and practically giving herself to death. It was very worrying. She couldn't stand the thought of Chloe just jumping out and facing death the way she's been doing. She needs to get into the mind of that redhead. She had just the plan to do that.
