Somewhat short, had a long week but here it is. I kept this chapter simple. Hope you guys like it 3
It's been about a month since the group has found the the small circled neighborhood and since Adam had joined them all. They had noise traps and sharped spike barricades made out of wood. They even had traps set for humans in case someone came to take over their new, temporary homes.
"Bree." Aubrey looked up, finding Beca. "Hey, everything okay?" The blonde asked with concern. "Oh, yeah, all is good. Just wondering if you've seen Jesse."
"Oh, he's with Chloe at the stream." "Thanks, we need to head to get some supplies before winter hits here next month. Stacie's meeting me down the street while I get Chloe." The tiny brunette informed. When Aubrey seemed to give her a look of confusion, Beca could only guess why them three. "Chloe seems to be able to deal with everything and it's Stacie's turn to go." She shrugged.
"You went last time." Aubrey pointed. "Yeah I know, I just… I want to try again with her." The tiny brunette admitted. Aubrey frowned at this. "She hasn't said one word Beca, Adam's even tried with her and he hasn't gotten a word from her." She said quietly. Beca nodded. "It just, sometimes it feels like she's not even here." She weakly laughed. "I know." Aubrey agreed.
Suddenly a certain Bella and Treble walked in, causing Beca to clear her throat. "Hey, I was just about to come get you." She smiled, looking to Chloe. Chloe's brows furrowed. "Gotta go one a run before winter comes next month." Chloe nodded in understanding.
"Alright, meet me and Stace at the end of the street when you are ready." Beca explained.
"I… don't remember it being this crowded." Stacie said quietly, her brows furrowed as the three girls stood in between buildings. The girls making sure to stay hidden from the creatures roaming the streets. The last run wasn't as crowded as Beca had seen.
Now, to be clear this wasn't the city they had been to before. This was a small town on the other side from Atlanta.
Beca shook her head, looking around. She couldn't find an easy spot to get to the store across the street. Sighing, she looked to Chloe who looked back. "Any ides?" Chloe shrugged and looked around. After a moment her brows seemed to have furrowed making Beca look at her with worry. Chloe pointed across the street where the infected seemed to be completely avoiding the area.
"They're not even touching that spot." Stacie breathed. "I don't know rather to be worried or not." Beca admitted. Chloe shook her head. "Our best play is probably to go around." The tiny brunette pointed. Stacie nodded in agreement while the redhead didn't say anything.
"Dammit." Stacie sighed. "It's locked." She crossed her arms. Thanks to going around, the girls had to go through the back of the building only to find out the back door was actually locked.
"This can't get any worse." Beca weakly laughed, bringing her hands up to rest at her neck.
Before either could think of anything to do, Chloe just threw a hard punch, shattering the glass window to the door making the two Bellas next to her jump. While the two looked at her with shock, Chloe shook the pain off as blood crawled down her hand from her knuckles. The redhead only shrugged at them before stepping back up to the door and pushing her arm inside just to pat her arm around for the doorhandle. It wasn't to hard to find. After doing so she unlocked the door and stepped back just to open it and look to her two friends.
It took a moment for Beca to snap out of her shock and step into the store, pulling out her knife. Chloe followed with Stacie right behind her.
"Alright, Stacie, you head over to find some medicine, get as much as you can. Chlo you go and see if there's any blankets or winter wear. I'm gonna head over and see if there's any more food here." Beca instructed.
As Stacie walked off into the direction of the pharmacy, Chloe walked up to Beca, grabbing her hand. Beca turned and looked at her with worry. "Everything okay?" Chloe shrugged. "You can talk to me, whatever is going on. I won't judge. I promise." Beca tried.
Chloe opened her mouth only to shake her head and look to the floor, shutting it. Beca frowned, bringing a hand to Chloe's face. Chloe looked up at her with a weak smile. "I'll be here." Beca assured. The redhead nodded as Beca pulled her into a gentle hug. Chloe couldn't stop the shaky breath that escaped her lips as she pulled her best friend closer.
"That's all you found?" Beca questioned. Stacie stayed silent, looking to Chloe who frowned. "Did you find more than this?" The tiny brunette asked. Chloe shook her head, holding up three blankets in one hand and four winter jackets with two scarves resting over them as they all were held on her arm.
Beca's jaw clenched. "We need to go to another town, see if we can more." Stacie said quietly. Beca felt anger just suddenly rush right through her veins. Turning, she looked to the shelves that were nearly empty aside from the next to useless items sitting, waiting to be picked up. The anger only seemed to rise, causing her to just step up and violently push all those items right off the shelf, making a loud clatter in the quiet store. While Stacie flinched, Chloe's eyes only shut.
Chloe didn't blame Beca for being angry. It was understandable. If anything, she felt the same. "What town?" Beca breathed. Chloe sighed, turning and looking at the tiny brunette. Beca looked at her before looking to Stacie.
"I say we head to Blairsville. Small town. You, Chloe, Jesse, and Adam should go. Although we're gonna need a car. I saw a truck out back but… we might need to hotwire it." Stacie shrugged. When Chloe smirked, Beca's brows raised. "I have a feeling Red knows just how to do that."
"I know she hasn't said anything for the past month or so, but uh… you still look at her the same." Stacie poked Beca. Beca's brows furrowed as she looked at the tall brunette. "What?" She questioned, looking back to the redhead who was currently trying to hot wire the truck.
"You've been with Jesse for awhile, but, I don't think I've ever actually seen you even kiss him on the cheek. Hell, I think I've only seen him kiss you once. I mean, sure you kissed him at the ICCAs but since then it's like you two are just really good friends. Great friends. Then there's Chloe. I mean, you two are best friends but… you two practically act like you're more. You let her hug you for God sake's. You don't let anyone hug you. Not even Jesse."
"I get your point." Beca mumbled. Stacie hummed proudly as Chloe suddenly moved from the truck that was suddenly started.
"Alright, let's go." Beca sighed, walking around the front of the truck.
Chloe looked out the passenger's side of the window with confusion. "Is it just me or is it oddly deserted here?" Beca questioned. Stacie leaned forward, looking out the windshield. "Well, it is a small town."
Chloe looked at her before looking back to the stores they were passing by. Beca came to a stop next to a gas station. "Alright-." "I'll keep watch." Stacie cut Beca off with a smirk. Beca's expression went blank while Chloe looked at her with confusion. She looked between the two, noticing the slight tensity in the air. She awkwardly decided to just get out of the truck and make her way to the station.
Beca looked to Stacie who just continued smirking. "I hate you." Stacie chuckled.
"I'm starting to think that this place wasn't ever even touched." Beca said as she stared at all the food on the shelves. Chloe shrugged, walking up to her, sipping on a slushie. Beca looked at her and shook her head with a smile. Chloe smiled, grabbing Beca's hand and holding her slushie out. Beca looked at it. Chloe moved closer, pushing her best friend to take a drink. Beca blushed when the redhead rested her head against her own.
"We need to focus." Beca said quietly. Chloe's smile weakened but she nodded. While Chloe stepped back and turned around, making her way to an aisle in the far back, Beca could only stand with guilt.
She wasn't getting through to the redhead, but they have gotten closer. Pushing her away like she did after Stacie having said what she said, made her feel guilt. Guilt for what exactly? She still didn't really know. She loved Jesse, but she wasn't exactly sure if she loved him like that. Chloe was different though, that was for sure. She had a strong feeling Chloe felt the same way.
