Thanks for the comments, feel free to leave more! I'm new to writing and I know I have a lot of flaws, so please go ahead and criticise my writing, I need your help to keep on improving : made a few changes here and there from canon, not as much as I would like tho... anyways enjoy
Izuku couldn't believe it, he had placed 5th in the practical exam, with a score of 65 points. Bakugou had come in first place with 77 points, though it was kind of expected.All that mattered though was that Izuku got into UA, and that this was the start of his journey, to becoming the hero he always dreamed to be.
Izuku slipped on a white button up shirt and dark green trousers, before wearing the grey blazer over his shirt. He then finished off the outfit with a red tie that reached all the way down to the bottom of his shirt, before safely tucking it behind his blazer. Izuku tied his hair up in his usual long ponytail and grabbed his shinai that was leaning on his cupboard as he exited his room. Izuku wasted no time in devouring the breakfast made for him by his mum before grabbing his navy blue Cabin Zero bag.
After greeting his mother goodbye, Izuku set off on his journey to school. Along the way he had time to think about UA and their various courses. "Despite having such a big campus, the acceptance rates are so low there are along two classes in the hero course. Each class only has 20 people, with 36 students being accepted through the entrance exam and 4 students getting in through recommendation. Even if there are other courses, the school is a bit too big for so few students..."
And the problem with every big place, is the chance of one getting lost. That was the current predicament Izuku was stuck with at that moment. He had to wander around for quite some time looking for class 1-A, asking some people for directions along the way. He spent 20 minutes looking before he ran into that kind girl who saved him the other day. Normally, Izuku's first response would be to avoid a conversation with other people, mainly due to his lack of conversational skills. But he really needed to find where class 1-A is, and who knows she might even be his classmate, so why not introduce himself now.
"H-hi, I'm M-Midoriya Izuku, n-nice to meet you!" He managed to stammer out, sticking out his right hand for a handshake.
The girl shook his hand, replying with an excited smile on her face, "oh you're the plain-looking one! I'm Uraraka Ochako. Nice to meet you!" Izuku could feel himself blushing, fuck teenage hormones.
"I'm in class 1-A, how about you?" she asked him curiously.
Izuku face lit up at that, "what a coincidence, I'm in class 1-A as well. Though, I'm kind of lost at the moment..."
The girl continued to smile as she replied, "don't worry, I know where class 1-A is, just follow me!"
As they walked through the hallways, he listened to her gushing about how awesome his punch was. Izuku couldn't help but blush at the compliment. Before they knew it, they were in front of class 1-A. Izuku could only think, "that's one huge door...is it for accessibility?"
As they entered the class they could hear bickering already, it was that stern-looking boy waving his arms up and down like that of a robot, lecturing bakugou on why it was rude to put his feet up on the desks, and bakugou throwing threats right at him. It was actually kind of comical to watch.
That was when both parties turned to look at him and Uraraka walk through the door. The stern-looking guy immediately walked up to Izuku, "good morning, I'm Tenya Iida from Somei academy. You realised something else during the exam didn't you?"
Izuku managed to stammer our nervously, "uhh...nooo, I-I just thought she needed help and I couldn't leave her there. I did what I felt was right..."
Tenya Iida gave a nod of respect, but Izuku didn't notice. Izuku's eyes was locked on bakugou, who narrowed his eyes at him suspiciously. The two locked eyes for a few more moments, ignoring the rest of the students chatting with each other. Bakugou looked like he was about to say something but was interrupted by the sudden voice that rang out, "go somewhere else if you want to make friends."
Everyone turned to look at the weird yellow man-caterpillar creature lying on the ground. "It took all of you 10 seconds to shut up, in the real world, you will all be dead by then. This is the hero course, we have no time to waste, clearly your brats aren't rational enough." As he spoke, he managed to stand and unzip his sleeping bad, before nearly folding it and putting it away. Everyone was kind of in disbelief at this man's appearance, he kind of looked like a beggar.
"I'm your homeroom teacher, Shota Aizawa. Nice to meet you." Even his voice sounded dead. Aizawa didn't seem to care that the class was in shock at that statement, he just continued, "it's kind of sudden, but put this on and meet me on the field." As he said that, he pulled out the UA PE uniform, showing it to the class.
A boy with yellow hair and a black highlight managed to ask before Aizawa walked out of the class, "wait sensei. what about orientation and entrance ceremony?!"
Aizawa merely replied as if he was explaining to a toddler, "here at UA, Teachers are allowed to run their class as they please, and I deemed it was unnecessary to go for the entrance ceremony and orientation." With that, Aizawa exited the class and headed for the field.
The class quickly changed into their PE outfit, before running to the field at top speed. Once everyone had gathered at the field, Aizawa began his explanation for what they will be doing, "you kids will be doing a quirk assessment test. You have all done this in junior high haven't you? The fitness tests without use of your quirk. However, that way isn't rational, so for this quirk assessment test, you kids will be using your quirk during the various tests to produce results. Bakugou, you finished at the top of the practical exam, right? What was your best softball throw?"
This seemed to catch bakugou's attention, before he replied with a, "67 meters."
Aizawa held a ball out to bakugou, before explaining, "do whatever you want, as long as you stay in the circle. Give it your all."
Bakugou got into position, preparing to pitch the ball. A simile made it's way onto bakugou's face as he used as much power as he could, adding a huge explosion to the pitch, "DIE!!!"
The ball rocketed through the air at top speed, flying out of sight quickly. Aizawa showed the result to everyone, causing some of them exclaim. "705.2 meters? That's crazy!" "It's looks kind of fun!" "Yes we get to use our quirks as much as we want!"
Though Aizawa didn't seem too happy, "it's looks fun, huh? You only have 3 years to become a hero, will you keep that attitude during that time?" That was when a sinister looking smile appeared on Aizawa's face, "All right, whoever comes in last place in all eight tests will be expelled from the school."
This seemed to cause an uproar as everyone was in disbelief at what was happening, some even protested about how unfair it was. But Aizawa merely mentioned, "as I said before, I'm free to run this class as I please, if I feel you have no potential, I will expel you immediately. Welcome to the UA hero course!" This seemed to motivate everyone to try their best and as least not come in last place.
During Aizawa's speech, Izuku was thinking of what he could even do during the tests, "I can only use One For All at either 100 or 0 percent. I can't use it at all if not I will break my limbs again, meaning I can only count on breathing!"
The first activity they did was the 50-meter dash,where they were separated into multiple groups such that they will take turns dashing the 50 meters. The first group consisted of Iida, Uraraka and a frog like girl called Asui Tsuyu. As the face began, Iida immediately took off, managing to dash past the finish line in just 2.84 seconds. Asui was not far behind due to her agility and speed. Uraraka finished last at 7 seconds, her quirk wasn't too applicable in this situation and making her clothes weightless didn't do that much.
The second group consisted of Ojiro Mashirao, who seemed to have a large tail, Ashido Mina, a pink like girl who can secrete acid from her skin, and a Yuga Aoyama, a blonde due with a belt around his waist. The moment it started, Aoyama shot off at high speeds with a laser that seemed to come out from his belly button, but halfway through, he stopped, causing him to fall before getting back up to repeat the process. Ojiro used his tail to propel himself forward while Mina was sliding on her acid such that she was able to run faster. They all more or less finished around the same time.
The third group had bakugou, Izuku and one of the recommended students, Momo Yaoyorozu. Izuku focussed on his breathing, hoping that with the increased blood flow, his speed should increase enough that he should be able to hit 5 seconds. As soon as the signal was given, Bakugou flew through the air, explosions from his palm propelled him forward allowing him to finish at 4.13 seconds. Izuku was not far behind, finishing at 5.02 seconds and Yaoyorozu at last place with 6.32 seconds.
This continued for the rest of the groups, some getting extremely good results, others not as good. Izuku did moderately well throughout most of the exercises, though none of his results really stood out at all. He wouldn't get last place, but he won't be doing too well either. He was now going for the last activity, the ball throw
Iida casually remarked on how Izuku isn't using his quirk and that his results could be much better, leading to bakugou arguing with him about how Izuku was quirkless and would obviously perform badly.
From the sidelines, Aizawa narrowed his eyes. "Midoriya, I heard about how you destroyed the 0 pointer in the entrance exam, and yet you have not used your quirk at all during the tests. My class has no place for those who do things half-heartedly, you either use your quirk for the ball throw or I will expel you!"
"Fuck, so much for not using my quirk. Aizawa sensei is forcing me to use my quirk, in a situation like this, I don't really have a choice. But how will I minimise the damage and maximise the output. It should be possible to increase the maximum output more if I combine my breathing techniques with the use of One For All, but the problem is how do I prevent myself from breaking my entire arm..."
That was when Izuku realised, when pitching the ball, the last moment of contact is when ball is released with the index finger propelling it forward. If he could just channel One For All in that very moment, he could get away with just a broken finger instead of an entire arm.
Izuku prepared himself, taking in a huge amount of air, expanding his lung capacity, he could feel it, the blood flow was increasing rapidly, his muscles were going beyond his limit, this was it. Pulling his arm back he prepared to toss the ball with all his might, fathering One For All into his fingertip. With a toss, he released everything at once, propelling the ball with so much force, the wind created by the force of the ball was unleashed in all directions, causing everyone to shield themselves.
Aizawa seemed to smile from side as he observed Izuku, before looking down at the reading which showed 783.4 meters.
That was when Bakugou flew forward, explosions erupting from his palms as he yelled, "Tell me what's going on, DEKU, YOU BASTARD!!"
But right before Bakugou's palm could connect to Izuku, the explosions stopped and Bakugou was restrained bya scarf like material. "What the fuck!? These cloths are hard! Why can't I use my quirk?!?"
"My scarf is a capture weapon made of carbon fiber woven with a wire of a special alloy. And as for your quirk, I erased it." Aizawa explain.
That was when Izuku recognised him, "the cloths, the googles, erasing quirks by looking at them, you're an underground hero, erasure hero:eraser head!"
Aizawa did not bother responding to Izuku, he merely released Bakugou and continued testing the others. Izuku once again locked eyes with Bakugou, both staring each other. "Kacchan, I'm not amazing like you and I can't even hope to compete with you. This power is something I can't really control, but even then, I will do my best to become a hero!" Bakugou merely gave an irritated look, before stomping off, as if he was sick of izuku's presence.
Everyone soon gathered in front of Aizawa as he released the results to everyone. Izuku gave a sigh of relief as he saw us name, "17 Izuku midoriya", he wasn't last. That was when Minata Minoru, a small boy with purple balls for hair, started crying loudly about how unfair it was and he shouldn't be expelled.
"By the way, I was lying about the expulsion. It was a rational deception to draw out the upper limits of your quirks." Aizawa explained.
The class let out a sigh of relief that none of them were expelled, before heading back to class to receive things like their timetable and the curriculum handouts. Izuku however, headed to the nurse's office to see recovery girl. After a quick kiss and some bandaging, izuku was cleared to go back to class.
Nothing much happened for the rest of the day, and it passed by rather quickly. Before he knew it, Izuku was on the way home from his first day of school.
As he reached home, he immediately grabbed his shinai and began training outside. If he was to become a hero, he couldn't just sit around...
Next day...
Izuku was dying. Since when were classes so boring? He spent his entire morning listening to the Teachers drone on. Math. English. Physics. Izuku was finally saved as the bell rang. "Yes! It's lunch time!"
He managed to get his favourite katsudon for lunch and a cup of orange juice. A fun fact he learned during lunch is that Iida drinks orange juice to help fuel his engines. "Midoriya-kun, you seem very interested in researching and taking notes about quirks."
"Uhh...yeah...quirks have always intrigued me since young, and they come in so many different forms it's interesting to think about", Izuku replies.
That was when Uraraka chimed in, "Midoriya-kun, why did Bakugou-san call you Deku?"
"O-oh... he callls me Deku to make fun of me, kind of like an insult."
"I see... I just thought it sounded like the word dekiru meaning, I can do it!"
The response was almost immediate, Izuku immediately blushed and said, "call me Deku!"
The rest of the day was not too interesting, Yaoyorozu was elected as class president and Iida as Vice President. But the best part is coming up, because their next lesson was Hero Basic Training.
The classroom door was roughly pulled open and All Might came in screaming, "I AM COMING THROUGH THE DOOR LIKE A NORMAL PERSON!!" The class immediately started gushing and fanboying about how they got to see All Might in person and how he was their teacher.
"Today, we will be doing COMBAT TRAINING! So put on your hero outfits made by the support companies and meet me at ground Beta!", All Might announced excitedly as a wall containing multiple suitcases popped out.
The class' excitement only grew as they were ready to test out their quirks in their new costumes. They wasted no time in taking their costumes to the changing room to put on their costumes.
At ground Beta...
All Might stood there waiting as the students slowly emerged from the hallway, clad in their new outfits. "They day the clothes make the man! And I must say you all look really cool with your new outfits!" All might praised.
Izuku's hero costume wasn't anything special. Instead of choosing an extravagant hero costume, he chose something simpler. His costume was basically a kimono. He had a grey hakama, along with a light green nagagi. The outfit was completed by the dark green haori that he wore. His treasure katana was sheathed and at his side. While his hero costume looked like civilian wear, he had it customised such that the stitching pattern made it hard for the outfit to be slashed apart, and the boiled leather armour he wore underneath offered even more protection. His elbows and knees were even given support braces. The only thing that seemed off about his outfit was his shoes, instead of wearing traditional footwear, he wore covered shoes that seemed to be reinforced with iron soles.
"Deku-kun, your costume looks rlly elegant and cool!" Uraraka complimented. Izuku took a good look at her costume, she had a navy body suit with pink marking on her shoulders. She also wore heels with dark pink soles and light pink belt with a circle buckle. Uraraka also wore a helmet with a visor big enough to see her entire face. All in all, she looked really cute in izuku's opinion.
"Y-You look good too Uraraka-san!", Izuku replied.
Izuku looked around and spotted Iida. His hero costume was heavy white armour that covered his entire body, underneath all the armour was a comfortable navy blue suit. The also had exhaust pipes coming out from his torso that went underneath his arms and towards his back. It looked like he came out from some TV show, but it did look kind of cool. Now that Izuku observed it more, it closely resembled Iida's older brother's costume. Izuku could tell that Iida greatly admired his brother, Ingenium.
All Might began to explain the exercise, "Most of the time when you see a villain fight, it's always outside, however when you actually view the statistics the number of fight indoors are actually higher and there could be multiple situations that lead to this. Instead of fighting faux villains today, I will be pairing you young heroes up, and you will be fighting against each other, one group will be the villains and the other will be the heroes. The villain's goal is to protect the fake bomb until the time is up or until they beat the hero team. The hero team's goal is to either apprehend the villains by using their capture tape or to capture the bomb by touching it! Without further ado, let's draw lots to decide the pairing!"
The first match up seemed to be Izuku and Tokoyami Fumikage as the hero team against Bakugou and Iida as the villain team. The following match ups are Todoroki and Shoji against Tooru and Ojiro, Uraraka and Asui against Mina and Aoyama, Kirishima and Sero against Kaminari and Jiro and finally, Yaoyorozu and Sato against Koda and mineta.
Izuku could already tell Bakugou was smirking without looking at him. This was the match up Bakugou was waiting for.
"Villain team please head into the building and plan where to put the bomb. Hero team shall wait outside until I give the signal to begin. Everyone else please head to the monitor room to observe the battle!" All might instructed.
As Iida and Bakugou headed into the building, Tokoyami approached Izuku on their strategy for the battle. "Midoriya-san, shall we discuss our approach to fighting Iida-san and Bakugou-san."
Izuku was surprised at first but quickly analysed their opponents and explained the strategy Iida and Bakugou will most likely use, "They will most likely hide the bomb at the top floor, then since kacchan is will rushing to fight me, he will head down to distract us and buy time for Iida-kun . We both can't team up against kacchan as that will take too much time, if we avoid him and head for Iida-kun, kacchan can come approach us from behind, making it a less than ideal situation..."
Tokoyami was quick to catch on, "so you will hold Bakugou off, while I take on Iida... it works better that way, with my quirk dark shadow, i am at a disadvantage against Bakugou as bright lights weaken dark shadow and It's almost like there's two people, Iida-san will have a tough time defending the bomb."
That was when the alarm went off, and the exercise began. Both Tokoyami and Izuku immediately ran into the building. As they headed for the third floor, that was when they heard it, the sound of explosions. Tokoyami quickly concealed himself as Bakugou made his appearance. What Izuku didn't expect was the speed at which Bakugou came at him, Bakugou swung his right arm straight at izuku's head, unleashing an explosion. Izuku barely managed to duck to the side, before taking a few steps back to create distance between them.
"Running away Deku? What a coward." Bakugou mocked
"A-As aggresive as ever kacchan, you should do something about that attitude, not very hero-like," Izuku replied. He usually wasn't like this, but he needed to piss Bakugou off such that Tokoyami could sneak by.
And it seemed to work as Bakugou seemed infuriated by Izuku's response. Now that Bakugou's attention was completely on him, Tokoyami took this as an opportunity to slip by and head upstairs.
Bakugou dashed forward again, throwing a big right hook right at Izuku, though Izuku predicted this and caught his arm. Izuku wasted no time, executing a judo flip and throwing Bakugou to the ground, before creating distance between them again.
"I always admired you since young, I know you better than anyone else, your fighting style usually revolves throwing a right hook first which was why I could predict your movements." As Izuku said this, he began to draw his blade, the black metal glinting in the dark hallway. Readying himself he began speaking again, "remember the other day when I said I couldn't hope to compete against you? I take it all back, so come at me with all you got!"
This seemed to piss Bakugou off even more, more explosions continued to dance across Bakugou's palms, "Deku..."
With a mighty roar, Bakugou dashed forward once again, seemingly going to throw another right hook, but he changed at the last moment, throwing a left kick right at izuku's torso.
Izuku was quick to react, bringing his right forearm up to block the kick. But Bakugou did not stop there, he launch an explosion from his right hand, creating a smokescreen, blocking izuku's vision.
"Two can play this game! Total concentration breathing, breath of the mist, seventh form:haze!" Mist seemed to shroud the entire area as Izuku disappeared from sight.
"Was it fun to be making a fool out of me all this time?!!? HUH? DEKU!!!" Bakugou was basically screaming at this point and his face was contorted in rage.
Izuku merely held his silence and circled around Bakugou. Coming up from behind him, Izuku slashed downwards hoping to incapacitate Bakugou in one strike, but of course, things don't always go according to plan. Bakugou noticed last second, bringing up his left gauntlet to block to the strike. Part of the gauntlet was damaged from the attack, a long diagonal slash mark now disrupting the orderly criss cross arrangement of the grenade-like gauntlet.
Bakugou was quick to throw a right jab at Izuku, which Izuku swiftly blocked with the bottom of his hilt. Izuku quickly backed off knowing that Bakugou was about to unleash another explosion.
Bakugou wasn't about the let Izuku disappear in the mist once again, without a moment to lose, he chased after Izuku, propelling himself forward with his explosions.
Izuku quickly protected himself, making sure to hold back on the technique, "breath of the moon, fifth form:moon spirit calamitous eddy!" Numerous waves of crescent moons seemed to overlap, forming a rising vortex around Izuku, shielding him from Bakugou. Since Izuku held back on the technique, Bakugou was knocked back spotting numerous cuts. Nothing too serious that Bakugou would be seriously injured but would at least show Bakugou that he means business.
That was when he heard a weird sound. Izuku looked closely at Bakugou's gauntlets, noticing that they gave off a red light. "They are loaded. My quirk allows me to secrete nitroglycerin-like sweat which I can combust at will, but quirks are also physical traits. Meaning there's a limit to how much I can release, but with these babies which stores my sweat, I can produce explosions much larger than my normal limit!"
Bakugou began to pull the pin, ready to launch the explosion. Over the intercom, All Might ordered Bakugou to stop, "Young Bakugou, stop! Are you trying to kill him!?"
Bakugou gave a gleeful smile and replied, "As long as he dodges, he won't die!" With that, Bakugou pulled out the pin. A large explosion erupted from the gauntlet, flying through the hallway, scorching the walls and floors, breaking apart the concrete.
"Shit! The hallway is too narrow! I can't dodge!" Izuku had no other choice but to face it head on. He hadn't perfected it but in this situation he had to use it. "Breath of water, eleventh form:lull." The entire area seemed to change into a peaceful lake, Izuku seemed to stand at the center of the lake calmly. The flames from the explosion seemed to have trouble reach him, as if they were getting cancelled out. However, part of the explosion still reached him, even with Izuku blocking, he still took some damage.
As the smoke cleared, Izuku was seen leaning against the wall, breathing slightly laboured, small burns across his face and arms. His kimono was torn in several place and covered in soot. Bakugou emerged form the smoke, smiling like a maniac, with a slightly unnerving laugh.
Bakugou wasn't letting up even though Izuku was injured, he appeared in front of Izuku in a blink of an eye, throwing a left swing at Izuku. Izuku blocked it with his right forearm but the explosion that followed definitely did something to Izuku.
"What's wrong, huh? Come deku, what happened to all that bravado from earlier?!" Bakugou was provoking him, and he knew it. But he was going to take the bait anyways.
Within two quick strides, Izuku closed the distance between them, Izuku preparing to swing his katana and Bakugou ready to unleash more explosions. That was when Izuku did the unthinkable, he let go of his katana, allowing it to fall to the ground. Bakugou was so shocked, his eyes was fixed on the falling blade instead of his opponent. That split second was all Izuku needed, with his increased strength from the breathing techniques, he threw a punch right at Bakugou's gut. Bakugou hunched over as the air was knocked out of him, but Izuku did not stop there. Izuku threw punch after punch at Bakugou, raining punches all over his face and torso, he swore he heard a rib crack.
He finished his assault by dropping an axe kick while Bakugou was still clutching his stomach, dropping Bakugou to the ground. While mastering your technique with the weapon, one cannot just be a one trick pony, they have to have multiple skills. One of the most important skills is martial arts.
Right as he was about to contact Tokoyami, he heard Bakugou's voice. "Where the fuck do you think you are looking?!" Looking down, he saw Bakugou looking up at him with his palms facing upwards. The next thing he knew, all he saw was a giant explosion as he was knocked back. Bakugou got back up, and started to charge towards Izuku once again. Izuku threw his arms up to block Bakugou's right arm that was aiming for his face, but he was surprised when he got kneed in the gut. Bakugou capitalised on that moment, grabbing izuku's hair roughly, he slammed Izuku into the wall, before unleashing an explosion, blasting Izuku through the wall. It was not a serious explosion that would burn Izuku seriously but it had the force to throw Izuku around like a rag doll.
"Do you know when a person is injured, there will be excessive sweating, it's a good thing my quirk runs on sweat!" Bakugou relentlessly attacks Izuku, throwing explosion after explosion at him. Soon the entire room was filled with smoke. Bakugou noticed something moving and immediately threw an explosion right at it. But as the smoke cleared, all he saw was a torn and tattered haori. He got dropped from behind as Izuku threw a high kick right at his head. Bakugou quickly got to his feet before analysing the situation again.
Izuku with his breathing definitely hits much harder than Bakugou, but Bakugou has explosions to go give himself more mobility and more attack power. Crouching low, Bakugou swung his arm close to the ground, igniting explosions along the way. The concrete he destroyed into dust helped serve as a smokescreen as he threw it right at Izuku. Izuku shielded his eyes, preventing him from blocking the right swing that slammed into the side of his head. He tried to throw a punch at Bakugou, but Bakugou swiftly avoided Izuku using his explosions to manoeuvre through the air. Izuku wasn't about to give up though, mustering all of his strength, he grabbed onto Bakugou's foot while he was mid-air, and tossed Bakugou right into the wall. But before Bakugou could crumple to the ground, Izuku dashed right at him at top speed.
The sheer speed Izuku achieved in that short moment and distance was enough such that when Izuku body slammed him, the wall behind Bakugou collapsed and Bakugou flew into the next room. Neither party were willing to back down, but right as they were about to charge at each other again, they heard All Might through the intercom, "Hero team wins!!!!!!"
As the exercise ended, both boys exhausted and injured passed out right there and then. During the battle, it seemed that while Tokoyami attempted to make Iida choose between defending against dark shadow or him, Iida was fast enough to defend against both and prevented him from reaching the bomb. Which caused Tokoyami to take so long to overpower Iida and then capture the bomb. Robots immediately rushed to the battle grounds to help carry the injured to the nurse's offices to get their wounds treated. The rest of the battles went by without much trouble, with some people performing extremely well like Todoroki who managed to defeat the villain team almost instantly and capture the bomb at the same time.
When Izuku woke up, it was already in the evening and almost everyone had gone home. Looking at the bed opposite him, he immediately spotted Bakugou. There was an awkward silence between them. Izuku was the first to break the silence, "I-I didn't trick you, I-I c-can't control this borrowed power just yet, w-which is why I didn't use it during the battle...what I mean to say is..."
