Ch. 2: Chūgoku no yūrei monogatari
Chinatown.
An ethnic enclave of Chinese people located outside mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan, most often in an urban setting. Areas known as "Chinatown" exist throughout the world, including Europe, North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Australasia and the Middle East.
The largest Chinatown in Asia and one of the largest in the world is located in Yokohama and the city of Kobe has a growing Chinatown. Nagasaki's Chinatown was founded in 1698 AD. Most Chinese immigrants in Japan were from Taiwan who arrived during the Japanese colonial period.
This Ikebukuro District of Tokyo is home to many ethnic Chinese who arrived in the 1980s. Though in Tokyo, this Chinatown is quite small and unannounced than the Yokohama's Chinatown just to the south of the city
Chinese restaurants in Japan serve a fairly distinct style of Chinese cuisine. Though in the past Chinese cuisine would have been primarily available in Chinatowns such as those in port cities of Kobe, Nagasaki, or Yokohama, Japanese-style Chinese cuisine is now commonly available all over Japan. As Japanese restaurants often specialize in just one sort of dish, cuisine is focused primarily on dishes found within three distinct types of restaurants: ramen restaurants, dim sum houses, and standard Chinese-style restaurants.
Recently some of the aforementioned Chinatown areas are being besieged by Chinese and Japanese gangsters who routinely committed extortion activities on hapless Chinatown residents for protection money and those who refused will be CURSED BY THE GODS.
At first the residents did not believe them, but in recent days they began to cower in fear and are forced to do the gangsters' bidding and became despaired due to feeling hopeless, as they believe that they were CURSED, and resigned to fate.
However one resident tried to rally his fellow Chinatown residents but they were too scared to react and said they rather submit their earnings to the gangsters rather than being cursed.
"No way."
"I don't want to be cursed."
"I want to live."
"I rather lose money than being cursed for life…"
"Forget it."
"We can't fight them."
"They're too much."
"Yeah."
Seeing that his fellow Chinatown neighbors have submitted themselves to intimidation, he thought fast on how to get help but knew that the gangsters have police protectors backing them, but then something came to mind and he hurriedly leave Chinatown to meet with someone.
However, he is noticed by the Japanese-Chinese gang members and are about to go after him, but one member said it is okay as his AGENT will deal with the rebel, which the others realize what their fellow gangster meant.
"I see."
"You're right."
"I get it."
"Of course."
"A good idea."
"Let's do it."
"Hurry."
"Right."

Several hours later, the scene shows that the Chinatown resident is waiting at a parking lot, and the time now is 19:00, and the person became anxious as he has been waiting for hours, and as he felt compelled to leave, two teenagers happened to pass by as they are heading somewhere.
Those teenagers in question turn out to be Katsuki Bakugo and Eijiro Kirishima, as they just finished going to an arcade and they noticed that the man at the park looked nervous and there Kirishima decided to ask the man if he need any help, though Bakugo said it is none of his business but his classmate said he should give it a try now that he has a provisional hero license.
"Come on, Bakugo."
"…"
"We got our provisional licenses and we can operate like pro heroes do."
"Like I would…"
"It's better than nothing, you know…"
"…"
"Trust me. You'll get good points if we help…"
"Hmph."
Grunting in annoyance, Bakugo reluctantly obliges and the two UA students asked the man if he need any help. The man appeared hesitant as he did not want to involve teenagers until Kirishima said that he and Bakugo are hero students .
By then two more teenagers arrived at the scene, and they turn out to UA students as well, in which they turn out to be:
- Hiryu Rin
- Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu
The man recognized Rin and went to him and immediately told Rin, a fellow Chinese, his situation at Chinatown that is situated in Yokohama, where members of a Japanese-Chinese gang members are using intimidation and SUPERNATURAL means to force the Chinatown residents and merchants to give out money.
Kirishima is surprised to hear this while Bakugo appeared to be neutral on the matter but Rin tells his fellow Chinese that he will help him solve the problem at Chinatown and take down the extortionists and leave Chinatown alone.
"Very well."
"Huh?"
"We'll help you."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Please!"
"We will."
"I'll take you there and…"
Suddenly several unidentified intruders appeared, and the three UA students appeared baffled by the intruders' appearance, but Rin stared in disbelief as he told his fellow UA schoolmates that the intruders appeared to look like HOPPING VAMPIRES.
"What?"
"Did you say HOPPING VAMPIRES?"
"What kind of mumbo-jumbo is that?"
"It's no joke! I recognized them!"
"Seriously?"
"That's so unmanly!"
"Give me a break! There's no way that those damn things exists! They're just horror stories!"
"…"
The three 1st year students were baffled, and though they heard of the term hopping vampires, they know it only being ghost stories and the such from various Chinese movies, and Bakugo said that couldn't be possible since they are not real, but are fictional ones, which Tetsutetsu agreeing as no such things as ghosts exists.
But the Chinatown resident said that these are what caused his fellow neighbors to submit their will to the extortionists because they were superstitious and believed that the hopping vampires are real and will haunt them if they do not submit 90% of their earnings to the gangsters.
Rin tells assured to his fellow Chinese that these things are FAKES and will take care of them, and tells him to step back as he and his schoolmates will take these intruders out, and tells them to go all-out saying that these things are possibly marionettes of some sort.
Bakugo grinned as he liked the idea, which Kirishima agreed and said this is what he does best, though Tetsutetsu cautioned the two not to let their guards down as they do not know if these things are just imitations or a ticking time bombs.
"Careful, you two."
"?"
"?"
"If they are fakes, then they might be robots armed with time bombs or something…"
"Heh…like that would scare me!"
"No problem! My Quirk will protect me!"
"Then we better go all-out!"
"Right!"
"Yeah!"
As the three UA students deal with the attackers, they are quite surprised to see that the attackers moved like the hopping vampires they saw on the movies, not to mention that they seemed unaffected by the attacks the students dished, and Bakugo is getting quite pissed, seeing that his Explosion attacks did not seemingly harm the attackers.
Tetsutetsu and Kirishima used their Quirk-based attacks and managed to knock the attackers down, but they got up, and kept on hopping before attacking. The two UA students are baffled as they wondered why the attackers are not affected by the blows and why they keep coming back.
"What the heck?"
"What's going on?"
"They keep coming back!"
"They should be crushed by now!"
"I don't like this!"
"Keep attacking!"
"Right!"
"Plus Ultra!"
Rin observed the scene and gets a feeling that perhaps there are some supernatural elements involved, and he advises his fellow Chinese to run and head for UA Academy, not only out for protection but to also inform the officials and pro heroes there about the situation.
Before the man nods, one of the attackers hopped in and grabbed the man by his neck before hopping at a great height, which Rin stared wide-eyed, surprised that one of the attackers sneaked past him, and before he could help the man, Rin was pinned down by other hooping vampire-like attackers, and the Chinatown resident screamed for help, and Rin tried to reach out to the man but is pinned down by the attackers.
"Help!"
"No!"
"Help me!"
"Hang in there! Damn it…get off me!"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"…"
The attacker that grabbed the Chinatown resident hopped several times before jumping higher, and as the man screamed, the attacker let go of its victim and the man screamed louder as he falls from a dangerous height, which Rin is forced to use his Quirk, Scale, to the limit and got off from his attackers, but before Rin could save his fellow Chinese, the man hits the ground head-first, and sprawled to the ground.
His skull cracked and his body lie in a pool of blood, lifeless, and Rin screamed in fury at the senseless murder as he lashed out at the attackers, but to his frustration, the attackers kept on coming back, reattaching themselves and hoped back and forth.
Tetsutetsu and Kirishima are getting frustrated at the non-stop assault while Bakugo had to use his Quirk over the limit to incinerate the attackers, which confirmed that the attackers are indeed marionettes, but despite being charred, they reassembled themselves and hopped their way back to continue the assault on the four UA students.
The quartet are becoming baffled as what is causing these to come back to life after dealing so much damage.
"What the hell…?"
"They keep reassembling themselves…"
"This doesn't make sense…"
"I don't like this…"
"This is pissing me off!"
"I think we need to call for backup…"
"Me too…"
"Damn…"
Not far, one of the gangsters is recording the scene live, and the scene shifts to Chinatown in both Yokohama and Kobe, where the gangsters are showing the live footage to the Chinatown merchants and residents, telling them that this is what will happen if the residents dare resist them, and said that the SPIRITS will only be appeased if the people pay the protection money the gangsters demand.
The residents were scared into intimidation and hopelessness that they are slowly giving in to the gangsters' whim, but one resident knelt down and prayed, asking for protection and help, in which one of the gangsters noticed it and points a finger, where a hopping vampire appeared and snapped the kneeling man's neck, killing him.
The gangsters said that this is what will happen if the residents attempt to rebel, but then a man was thrown out from the second floor house, and hits the floor. It turns out that this man is one of the gangsters, and as the gangsters checked on him, he was lifeless and had deep claw marks on his chest which punctured his heart and lungs.
Moreover, another set of items were thrown out, which turn out to be books about voodoo, and soon the hopping vampire-like marionette laid still to the ground, which proved the theory that the marionettes are being controlled. And there something jumped out from the window and land on the ground.
It appeared to resemble a human-sized Chinese doll that is dressed like a Chinese ghost, but it is blue-skinned and female, and armed with large claws. There the unidentified character tells the gangsters that what they did is unforgivable and will punish them for their deeds.
The gangsters are in a state of disbelief at how this attacker discovered their SECRET, but the attacker, who introduced herself as Hsien-Ko, tells the gangsters not to underestimate REAL supernaturals.
"You committed a great evil. You must be punished."
"You can't scare us!"
"Yeah!"
"You're a fake!"
"You can't beat us!"
"You'll be sorry!"
"Get her!"
"Yeah!"
Hsien-Ko then moved at fast speed and clawed the gangsters and wounded them to the point where they cannot escape, and she tells the residents to decide on the gangsters' fates before leaving.
The residents knelt down and prayed, believing that their prayers were answered as they believed that Hsien-Ko is indeed a supernatural because of her appearance and they began calling the police.

Meanwhile, Bakugo, Kirishima, Tetsutetsu and Rin stared in surprise seeing that the marionettes fell to the ground and went still, and they made sure that it wasn't a trick, and they are baffled as to what happened, though Rin believed that something must have happened, hence the marionettes no longer functions.
By then Bakugo saw the gangster attempting to sneak out and the Class 1-A student went after him, and soon the gangster is caught, and there Rin interrogated him, demanding answers on who is behind this, but the gangster is defiant and took out a book which contained SPELLS that border on BLACK MAGIC and recited some incantation, and the marionettes rose back to life, ready to attack.
However, Hsien-Ko arrived and uses her claw, severing the gangster's arm and ripped off the book, breaking the spell and the marionettes went still once more. The gangster screams out in pain while Rin stared wide-eyed as he can tell that Hsien-Ko appeared to be a supernatural due to her appearance as a Chinese-looking doll and the way she moved.
There Hsien-Ko tells the UA students the location of the rest of the gangsters hiding at Kobe and urges them to go there in order to stop the gangsters from using black magic to further their extortion operation before taking her leave.
The four UA students are baffled at this before deciding to take the wounded gangster to the hospital and report this to the police, with Bakugo asking who would believe the claim about the gangsters using books that contain voodoo spells, which Kirishima and Tetsutetsu agreeing, feeling that their statements might go ignored.
"I'm betting the police will call us loonies."
"I agree. They might not believe us."
"Rin, what should we do?"
"Take this creep to the hospital, gather the evidence and tell them what we know. Then we set off to Yokohama."
"Sounds like a good idea."
"Bakugo…"
"You sure, Rin?"
"Yes, Tetsutetsu"
"…"
Rin picks up the damaged books and said he will do the explaining and urges them to take the wounded gangster to the hospital while he calls the police, and instructed the trio to head to Kobe after this in order to flush out the gangsters out from their hideout.
To Be Continued...
Hope you liked this chapter, as there is some action here, though mainly involving Chinese elements, due to the INTRODUCTION of the Darkstalker, Hsien-Ko, and I borrowed some elements of Chinese supernatural lore, such as the hopping vampires, but it served as another introductory part where the characters of My hero Academia would eventually face off against the characters of Darkstalkers, and the scene shown above served as a prologue of sorts.
A character death is depicted, which shows that the upcoming chapters will present a tolerable level of violence…
Preview:
More Darkstalkers will be INTRODUCED and some will make their way to Hosu, where other My Hero Academia characters would get to interact…one that involves a CARNIVAL of…CATS…?
See you in six to eight weeks (around mid-September or late October)…
Reviews are welcomed, but needed…
