A/N: This story begins during the last episode of Season 5. This is what I would have wanted to happen in the show. I am a huge NJBC supporter to lots of friendship of theirs. Hope you enjoy!
I do not own Gossip Girl or its characters.
Serena had just privately messaged Gossip Girl that she would do anything for her to stop posting pages of Blair's journals. It was just 11 in the morning and she was already angry, tired and irritated. Just then, she saw an invite lying on her desk for the Shepherd Divorce party. 'That brings up memories' Serena thought, finally getting a smile on her face.
She got dressed for the day and made her way to the Empire penthouse. As she got off the elevator, she saw Nate sitting on the couch, reading a newspaper. "Hey." She said softly.
"Hey." Nate replied. "Looking for Chuck?" The two hadn't spoken to each other since Nate and Lola had given the Gossip Girl laptop back to the original Gossip Girl.
"No. You actually." Serena said as she sat across from him.
"Serena, the last time you came here to talk to me after we had had a fight, it was to talk about Tripp. Should I be scared?" Nate asked her honestly with a teasing smile.
"Oh, no. Don't worry. No plans on having an affair any longer." She laughed slightly. "I know you are angry, and I am angry and we haven't been talking, but I was wondering if you would accompany me to a party tonight."
"Serena, I am with Lola, I don't think us going with each other is-"
"It's the Shepherd Divorce party. Anything else I wouldn't be here." She said softly.
"The Shepherds?" Nate asked with a smile.
"Yeah." Serena nodded. "I just thought that you know, the significance, I guess... I shouldn't be here. You're right, you're dating my cousin." She said, shaking her head and getting up to leave.
"Serena. Wait. I don't think I can go to this party wot anyone but you. Bad things happened when we took dates last time."
"I... I didn't know you regretted it. I mean... I..." She went to th elevator and jabbed the button to call for it. Nate realising what he had said and how it sounded, rushed behind her. Thankfully he was able to stop her before she got in.
"I did not mean that." He said, putting his arms around her waist. "Let me explain, please?" Serena thought for a moment and went inside.
"You get one chance." She said sitting on the couch. Both of them regretted the way they had hurt Blair but Serena never thought Nate wished that didn't happen between them.
"I meant cheating. I would never regret what we did, S. Just the part that hurt Blair." Nate said honestly.
"Yeah. I didn't like that part too." Serena mumbled. Nate smiled and pulled her for a side hug and gently kissed her forehead.
"Let's go together, tonight. We should." Nate whispered.
Serena just put her head on his shoulder and closed her yes, grateful for the comfort it provided. Whenever either of them would be having a bad, the other was the only who could provide comfort. "Blair hates me." Serena whispered.
"She doesn't hate you. I can guess what happened though." NAte said softly. Serena and Blair would frequently fight, but would always get over it.
"No one was even supposed to see them" Serena said, "I just hope Gossip Girl tells me what she wants from me to stop going after Blair."
"What did you-"
"Nate?" Lola voice called. "Serena, what are you doing here?" Lola asked as she and William came into teh Empire living room.
"Wow! What a sight." Serena sarcastically commented. "Isn't it Manhattan's oldest man-whore."
"Serena, I am still your father." William said strictly.
"No. You are not. Just a sperm donor." She commented.
"I thought you hated Serena." She turned to Nate.
"What? The only reason gave Gossip Girl the laptop was the save Serena, not because I hated her." Nate said.
"I guess I will leave the family reunion, Nate pick me up at 6?" Serena said, as she got up to leave.
"Sit down, Sis. You never ahve to leave this suite because of someone else's presence." Chuck said, getting off the elevator. "You," He said turning to William, "Leave before I call security."
"You are going to have me kicked out?" William asked.
"There are three women I see as important to me, Blair, Serena and Lily. You hurt two of them, badly. So, yes. Leave this property." Chuck said. He went over to Serena and gave her a brief understanding hug. Over the years their sibling bond had blossomed and the two could trust each other explicitly.
"Wait... is William your father?" Nate asked Lola.
"She didn't tell you? Their bond is so strong, almost as if he always knew how to be a father." Serena said, and turned to walk to the balcony.
"Lola, what the hell?" Nate asked.
"It isn't your business." She said crossing her arms on her chest.
"Not my business? Serena is one of my best friends. That man hurt her like no one ever did."
"You're still considering Serena your friend, after everything?" Lola countered.
"I always will." Nate said and then went to check up on her.
"You okay?" Nate asked coming behind her on the balcony.
"I don't know... I..." She didn't know what to say.
"Shush..." Nate said and pulled Serena for a hug. "Am I so bad that I'm not worth getting to know? Forget me, I have a horrendous past, but Eric, he is one the most decent men I know, so why?" She cried out.
"Remember when we were dating and you had told me about your efforts to find him?" Serena nodded. "What did I say?"
"That he wasn't worth finding," Serena answered.
"Exactly. I stick by that. He pretended your mom had cancer, S. And ofcourse thing entire fiasco with Carol. He doesn't deserve your tears." Nate said, trying to calm her down.
The two walked inside and took a seat along with Lola and Chuck. As they took a seat, Serena's phone pinged.
"God, it's Gossip Girl." Serena groaned, dreading what the demand was about to be.
"Why is she contacting you?" Chuck asked.
"To tell me what to do so that she stops posting Blair's diary." Serena replied.
"Give it to me. I'll tell you if it can be done." Chuck said, taking her phone from her.
He saw and smiled and instead of passing it to Serena he gave it to Nate.
Oh, S. Just what I wanted. Lucky for you, it's pretty simple: Destroy Lola. You see, I prefer posting about you and B. A new It Girl in town, not on my watch. It's your choice. Best friend, or half-sister?
"Tell her you will do it." Nate said.
Serena read her demand and turned to Nate, "Are you sure?"
"It's for B." He replied.
"Outsiders don't matter." Chuck added.
"We are going to the party tonight together." Nate commented.
"Which party, and why are you going with her?" Lola asked annoyed at the secrecy the three maintained.
"It's a party for which only Serena can be my date." Nate repleid.
"The Shepherd divorce party." Serena said.
"Oh my." Chuck said. "I can't wait to see what happens."
"Listen... I still have the suit with me, have the dress? We can get it fitted." Nate suggested.
"Nate, I destroyed that dress." Serena whispered.
"What? after the way you got angry at me 10 minutes back, now you're telling me you destroyed that dress, seems you regretted it, S." Nate said, raising his voice a bit.
"Nate. You know what happened after the wedding..." Realisation struck Nate. Georgina and Pete...
"Oh shit! S... it completely slipped my mind. I'm Sorry." Nate apologised.
"It's okay," Serena smiled.
"What is going on?" Lola asked.
"None of your business." Serena snapped.
"You're talking to my boyfriend." Lola rebutted.
Suddenly the elevator opened and came a voice that Serena, Nate and Chuck hadn't heard in a long time. "Nathaniel Archibald, how are you brother?"
"Matt! Hey." Nate got up and man-hugged him.
"Ms. Van der Woodsen, as beautiful as ever." He turned to Serena and pulled her for a huge hug.
"How are you? How is London?" Serena asked.
Matthew greeted Chuck as well before answering Serena's question. "I am fine, London is great." He turned to her and took her hands in his, "I know my Grandfather and Nate have apologised, but I am so sorry for what Tripp did. I felt like murdering him when I heard."
"Can relate." Nate mumbled.
"It's not your fault." Serena said, gently shaking her head.
"Matthew, this is Lola, my girlfriend. Lola, Matthew Vanderbilt, my eldest cousin." Nate introduced te two.
"Pleasure to meet you." Lola said offering her hand.
"Hmm." He wearily shook her hand, but then asked Nate, "Why are you not with Serena. I mean, I heard you two broke up, but why?"
"Matt.." Serena started.
"And who are you... I mean... Lola what?" Matt turned to her.
"my full name is Charlotte Rhodes." Lola said, managing a bit of confidence.
"Rhodes?" He raised an eyebrow at Serena. "You have a cousin."
"She is the bastard child of my aunt and my dad." Serena commented, not giving a care in the world how that sounded. Nate silently whispered a brief version of the entire saga in Matthew's ear. HE turned to Serena and once agin gave her a hug. "How are you still sane?" he joked.
"Trust. I'm not." She replied.
They all sat down and started talking, though the only one talking to Lola was Nate and on occasion Matt and chuck that too in short words and phrases. Once again, the elevator doors opened and came in Blair.
"Why did you have Mom make this dress, that too for her?" She asked Chuck.
"Because she needs it to make Gossip Girl stop posting your diary." Chuck replied.
"Matt... hey." Blair ignored her former boyfriend for a minute and went to greet the eldest Vanderbilt brother. "Now what about Serena doing something?" Chuck simply passed Serena's phone to Blair and got her to read the message. Blair looked at Serena and asked if she would really do it.
"We will." Nat replied. "It's for you."
"Wait... today there is the... this dress..." It all came together for Blair. "You are a genius." She told Chuck, causing him to smirk.
"What dress?" Serena asked confused. Blair opened the cover to reveal the exact golden dress Serena had worn to the Shepherd Wedding.
"Your suit is at Armani getting fitted to your size." Chuck told his best friend.
The two blondes just looked at each other and smiled. A lot of memories were being recalled in their heads seeing the dress.
"B... you got this...after..." Serena whispered.
"I forgave you both. Remember?" Blair said simply.
"Yeah... wait. I need to ask, how are the two of them alive?" Matthew asked Blair. "As soon as I heard, I thought, there goes my brother and his best friend... the had a good run." Matthew laughed.
"Well, I didn't exactly have a lot of ground to stand on after Chuck and I had sex in the back of a limo." Blair said, shockingly crude for herself.
"Are you two..?" Matt asked.
"No." Chuck shook his head.
"What is wrong with you people? God!" Matthew groaned at their stupidity.
Soon, the group dispersed as they all needed to get ready. Once Matt was brought up to speed on their plan, he asked Lola to accompany him to the event. Serena and Nate got ready, but before that she sent a post of Gossip Girl giving her the instructions as to when to post it. Nate was annoyed and angry at Lola for not telling him the truth about William, and so had no qualms going through with their plan.
A/N: If any of the crude words in the story hurt anyone, I apologise.
