ACT 4 - SCENE SET 5
INT. POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING - 5.1
START SCENE
Reid: 3 is a seriously symbolic number. Folktales, religious texts, and of course in math and science. You know, earth is the third planet from the sun.
Reid: And information in DNA and RNA is stored and transmitted in a triplet codon system. Oh, oh! History - the french revolution is also called the "third estate".
Reid: Religion too! the three major Abrahamic religions. Three sons of Noah, the Holy Trinity, the three pilgrim festivals in Judaism, the three holy cities of Islam, The Triple Gem in Buddhism, Wiccans follow a rule of three-
Hotch: Ok, ok - Reid.
Reid looked down
Reid: I can keep going.
Morgan: We know. But if it's about some symbolism of 3, which one?
Rossi: Well, factor in the location of the dumpsite. Reid, you got anything about planes and threes?
Reid racked his brain, but couldn't come up with anything. Reid shook his head
Prentiss: Well, maybe it's not about a worldwide symbolism for 3. Whatever it is only has to make sense to the unsub. Maybe something happened to this unsub in a group of three and this is his way of coping with it.
Rossi, liking where Prentiss was going with this: Garcia, were there any planes that crashed and killed three people leaving from Reagan, maybe within the last year or so?
Garcia: Um…. Oh yes! In March of last year, a flight leaving from Reagan headed to London crashed and landed next to a lake in Annapolis.
Garcia: 3 people died. Oh god- it was all one family. Everyone else escaped with scraps and bruises.
Garcia: But this whole family, Sarah Conningham, 43, Lisa Conningham, 15 and Luke Conningham, 13 died. The report says it has to do with where they were sitting- some wiring burst and water from the landing electrocuted them.
Hotch: Garcia, you said family but I only heard Mom and Kids. What happened to Dad?
Garcia: Oh good question! Um… oh. He wasn't on the plane. They were going for spring break, dad had to work.
Rossi: He's our unsub. Garcia-
Garcia interrupted
Garcia: Victor Conningham, 45. Work and Home sent.

INT. EXT. SUV - HOTCH, ROSSI, REID - 5.2
START SCENE
Rossi: So that's why he's doing this- his wife and children died because of where they randomly happened to be sitting, and so he grabs and kills people who just randomly cross paths with him. But why dump the bodies so openly?
Hotch: His wife and children are gone- he's depressed. He's not killing for revenge or to be a mastermind criminal. It's a compulsion. He doesn't care about getting caught.
Reid nodded
Reid: I hate to say it, but this kind of unsub usually kills themselves when caught.
Rossi nodded

EXT. VICTOR CONNINGHAM'S HOUSE - 5.3
START SCENE
The two SUVs sped into the driveway of a seemingly perfect, innocuous home. White picket fence and all. The team lingered in the cars for a moment, until;
BANG!
It was a gunshot. The team hopped out and breached the door. They cleared it one by one, until they made it to the bedroom, where Victor Conningham lay dead by his window.
It was obvious. Unsubs like these were likely to kill themselves. He most likely saw the government SUVs pull up, and ended it himself. The team exhaled and walked out of the room, letting the local police officers handle this.
As far as the BAU was concerned, this case was closed.
