I do not own Beyblade but do own the characters I have created and the story.

Beep…

That was far away. In another world maybe? This place feels nice. Calm. Tranquil. Here at the bottom of the ocean. I'm drowning, but for some reason it does not hurt.

Beep…

I like the ocean floor it is soft, just like her embrace, like his love. I can see more clearly now, it's not as dark as it was before. Feels like a blanket has been lifted from over me. I feel free.

Beep…

There it is again, it almost feels like its calling to me. But why? Why is it calling me?

Beep…

It's getting closer. Or am I getting closer to it?

Beep…

Wait… I don't wan-

Beep…

Beep…

The machine made the monotonous sound somewhere in the background. The sounds of the distressed world were once again returning to him. The warmth of the ocean no longer surrounding him, he felt exposed, afraid of what was to follow. All he wanted was to-

He opened his eyes, the dim light in the room falling through, hurting, making them water. Or was it the light?

"Dr. Shenji, he is waking up."

There were hurried footsteps and someone loomed over him obstructing the light. His lips were moving but he could not really register what he was saying. The folds of sleep, slowly withering away from his body. His chest felt heavy, but also light at the same time. Something inside him felt amiss, but he did not feel empty.

"where um-a-m I?"

"Hey kid, can you hear me?"

He nodded, the words were still broken to him, but he could make the connection.

"Good. I was afraid we were going to lose you." The figure moved away.

What was this odd feeling on his chest? He recalled the injuries the already had, but this one was different. It went a lot deeper. This was more intense than any of those. He moved a weak hand to feel the spot above where his heart was,

"what?" the confusion was getting the better of him now, and the beeping of the machine somewhere in the background quickened, only adding to his panic.

"What …s th-is?" he demanded, speech still slightly sluggish. He lifted his head to see but the mask over his face made it difficult. "Ah," his movements were causing him pain now. Taking in large gasps of air he tried to calm himself, but to little effect. Eyes wide he watched as the doctor approached him once again.

"Please child, don't rush,"

"What ha-ave-e you do-ne?"

"We have performed a surgery on you."

"Sur-ger-ry? Why-ah!"

"Please don't concern yourself with that right now. Please."

To him the doctor almost sounded guilty, like he was apologizing to him. He lay there, trying to take in the new piece of information. It was coming back to him, but only in flashes. Max. The guys. Someone following him in Russia. A slash. Pain. Some letters. Photographs. Boris. Grandfather.

The last memory struck fear that resonated somewhere deep inside him. Grandfather. Fear, but also despair.

"We need him awake," Voltaire looked at his grandson, "the seed is useless if we can't test it on him."

Kai lay in a small bed, still hooked to multiple machines. Boris slapped him roughly on the face to get a reaction, "Stupid weakling."

"Boris, I'm not willing to wait any longer. I want him up and running. That detective escaped alive, and surely he is making his move on the Abbey. Once that wall falls, it will be too late."

"Rest assured my lord, I'm using all my power to obstruct his every move."

"I understand, yes, but I have waited too long for this. I want my weapon," … "and Boris, begin preparing the boys."

"… what do you mean you can't? This is not up for argument."

The detective was having a heated conversation over the phone. He had completely lost his mind when he had seen the photograph of the Russian blader, Ian. He already knew that they had got their hands on Tala, but if Ian was caught too, it meant they had made their move on the others as well.

"Dizzy, run the new code on the files, there has to be a loophole somewhere." Kenny had been working with Dizzy on the huge amount of data that Samuel had given him. The files looked blank but they had a size to them, which meant, there was something still inside them. And he, they, just needed to crack the shell on the outside.

"Sir, I understand that this is a sticky situation, but we have considerable proof that Voltaire has re-opened his little science lab." Samuel was on the line with someone important, "and to top it off, he has some of the witnesses from the Biovault trial. God alone know-" - "What? Yes I have proof, it's a photo, but it clearly suggests kidnap, and I have a log of my telephonic conversation with the redhead. Tala. And I was targeted too. What more proof do you need?" – "Fine I'll be there is half an hour."

"Fucking idiots," he flung the phone on the table. "Mori, did you arrange for protection for the girl's parents?"

"Yes Sir. Everyone connected with these children are under constant surveillance."

"Good. Ok, I'm going to be going to the head office for a bit to knock some sense into that idiot's thick skull. Make sure nobody steps out," he looked up to address everyone in the room, "anything you want will be brought to you. Food, medicine, doctor… whatever it is, and whoever has a phone, put my number on speed-dial."

Tala, paced around restlessly in the small cell. "Bloody asshole thinks he is gonna kill us by keeping us here, I guess." There had been no movement since the time that they had been brought here, if he had been counting right, it was almost a week now.

"Yea… should have at least given us some crossword puzzles to pass our time," Bryan was hitting the wall next to him with the small stone he had found earlier, "I can't help but feel like an animal awaiting slaughter."

Ian was just lying down on the floor, the small wound on his side was hurting but healing faster than he had expected. "Why has he not kille-"

A metal door opened behind them. And the group turned to look. Three men walked inside and past where the teens stood. Boris, led the other two, a guard and another who looked like a doctor maybe? The man looked completely hassled.

"open it up," he barked and the guard scurried forward, fumbling slightly with the keys, he managed to get the door open to the cell opposite theirs.

"Please, Doctor, welcome to your new home. I hope you like the view." He glanced at the four boys.

The Doctor hesitated, "Please, sir, let me… just let me… go home. I-"

"Oh, we will let you doctor, we just need to extend your stay here some. The thing is, you are such a good person, how would you feel if you left and something terrible happened to these little angels? You need to be here to make sure they live."

The man looked at the bunch of kids, "I- my Wif-"

"Your wife is completely safe in our hands, you work with us here, cooperate, and at the end of it all she will run right back into yours arms."

"But… please, let-"

"aa-aa, I'm not going to take 'no' for an answer, I insist," he placed a palm on his chest and bowed his head then turned and left.

The man moved towards Boris, "hey… pl-"

"HEY!" someone screamed and he stopped just inches away from the bars, "Stay away from the bars!"

"Quick thinking, Bryan. Now that's my student," He clapped mockingly, "I have a surprise for you boys."

They held their breath, "move the rest in," he gestured to the guard, who ran out instantly.

The door opened in few minutes, many uniformed guards poured in carrying heavy equipments. They all entered the opposite cell and set them down. Boris looked at the dumbstruck doctor, "Dr. Seiji," he got his attention, "please tell my men where you want your furniture."

"Are you crazy? You are going to move him down here? His condition is unstable. And the wounds could get infected."

"What are you here for? did you earn you title? or buy it off the market? It's time to prove your talent to the world Doctor. You did such a wonderful job with the surgery. Fight against the odds and keep him alive." Hn… he paused, "them alive."

The men waited for the doctor's instructions. He was still in a state of shock but seeing no way out, he gestured to the men quietly telling them where he wanted all the equipment.

"I'll need a clean mattress and sheets," his face looked completely crest fallen as he spoke.

"Getting demanding, are we?"

"You said I have to keep him alive, this is how it's done," he found some courage hidden inside him, "and I will need warm water brought to me every five hours, along with all the medicines that I prescribe."

"Done…!" Boris grinned, "But you try anything stupid and your pretty wife will be lying in the gutter."

The door opened again and two men walked in, dragging a smaller figure along.

His ex-teammates just stared as he was dumped on the rickety bed.

Kai!
