Prologue

End of the cell games

"I hope this isn't your limit, because if it is then this won't even be a challenge" cell shouted but gohan could hardly hear a word of it. The immense pain in his left arm made it hard to concentrate, that alongside the douts creeping back into his mind and he couldn't care less what cell was trying to say to him. Right now all he was focused on was trying to hold back cell's kamehameha but no matter how hard he pushed cell was still pushing harder.

Watching from the side lines the z-fighters could do nothing but watch the struggle unfold. whilst they wanted to get involved most new that it would be like throwing rocks at a god, but one was paralized by fear and regret. "I'm such a fool" Vegeta thought to himself "I should have killed Cell when I had the chance, I traded my son for my pride and then became next to unless in the final battle. Me the saiyan prince reduced to this".

But unbeknownst to Vegeta someone else was feeling something very similar to the Saiyan prince. "Why didnt i listen to you father, if I had cell would be dead and you'd still be here with me. But I failed, cells gonna win and there's nothing I can do, you shouldn't have put your faith in me" gohan thought as cells blast drew closer.

"No, I still think I put my faith in the right person" a familiar voice calmly stated. "Dad! Where are you" gohan exclaimed as he frantically looked around for his father. "I'm in otherworld" goku calmly stated once again "listen to me gohan i know you have the power to beat cell i've sensed it all along". "But i can't, he's come back so strong" gohan yelled seemingly giving in to his doubts. "Yes you can gohan, your doubt is the only thing holding you back, remember what will happen if he wins all the people that will die. Let go of your doubts gohan and hit him with the biggest kamehameha you've got".

"No" vegeta thought to himself as he slowly climbed up to his feet, sensing a large rise in gohan's ki "i refuse to be a footnote in this battle, i may not be able to beat you cell but i can give gohan the opening he needs". He lifted his hand and charged all the energy he had into one last attack and then launched it at cell.

"This is it" cell chuched to himself "with gohan out of the way there will be nobody left to stop me". Suddenly a blast slammed into his side, not enough to hurt him but it threw him off balance, what shocked him even more was it was Vegeta who fired it."vegeta!" Cell cried out in shock but just as he did he finally noticed Gohan's rising power and before he could regain his balance it was over.

"Hhhaaaaaaa!" Gohan screamed as he unleashed a colossal amount of energy. In an instant cell's kamehameha was blown away and the could his body begin to disintegrate, "no, im perfect" he screamed in a desperate attempt to prevent the inevitable but this was it he had tempted fate too many times and now fate had won.

Gohan could feel cell's energy disappearing but he couldn't let up until he was sure he was gone for good, the strain was immense but he knew he couldn't let cell regenerate again. After one final push he felt the last of cell's evil presence final disappear, " well done im so proud of you my son" gohan smiled as he heard those words "thank you father" he sighed letting his body go limp, as his ascended super saiyan form dissipated and he collapsed on the ground completely unconscious.

A few hours later

After Gohan defeated Cell the z-fighters took him to the lookout to be healed by dende, "why hasn't he woken up yet?" piccolo questioned impatiently. "It will take some time for him to wake up, he was completely drained" dende replied calmly taking to his new position as guardian of earth quite nicely. Piccolo only grunted as he moved to the edge of the lookout to meditate. "Look, I know you're worried but he's fine" krillin said trying to calm him down, however he wasn't listening he was too focused on gohan right now.

Once he realized, after an awkward silence, that piccolo wasn't listening he went back over to the others. "So what are you guys gonna do now, I mean with cell gone there's no one left to threaten earth any more" apon krillin saying this i suddenly dawned on the z-fighters that they'd won earth was safe with no major threats on the horizon to worry about.

Yamcha spoke up first "i think i'm gonna quit fighting you know, change things up, it's not like i can keep up with you guys any more any way". "Yea i get what you mean" krillin replied "i don't really know what else i can do, i mean i've been fighting all my life, hay tien you got any plans?". "I don't really have any big plans, I didn't want to make any serious plans before cell was defeated" Tien replied, not really giving an answer. Chaiotzu then piped up "hay tien you could get a hero licence, you'd be such a cool hero".

Before tien could answer killin chimed in "that sounds pretty cool, I mean that way we could do something productive with our training, why don't we do it together?". "I would be lying if i said it didn't sound like a good idea" tien took a monument to think "alright i've made up my mind, goku sacrificed himself to protect the earth so i'm going to dedicate mine to protecting it"

"Sounds like a plan" krillin started with a determined look in his eyes "yea and we can get bulma to help with designing our hero costumes". "I wouldn't go that far just yet" tien laughed, piccolo and dende watched on from a distance, dende was happy to see everyone moving on and planning their futures. Piccolo thought about being a hero but decided to stay and defend the look out, with a past like his being a hero probably wasn't on the cards. However for gohan this could be something he would like, the boy didn't like fighting he knew that but he always did his best to help others. Ultimately he knew it would be his decision in the end and with the earth facing lasting peace did gohan need to keep fighting.

His thoughts were interrupted when he felt Gohan's energy begin to rise, he turned to see the boy awaken and began to sit up with everyone rushing over to check on him. They then use the dragon balls to revive trunks and everyone else killed by cell, goku decided to stay in otherworld and after a hope filled goodby the z-fighter when there separate ways to take the first steps into a new future.
