A/N: Here it is folks, the chapter I have been waiting to write for a while. Finally got some time to write it after a very hectic week. I wrote three chapters for my novel on Tapas today so I can work on this fanfic completely guilt free. I also only got one vote on that list I made for future projects on my tumblr. So I'm going to post it at the end of the chapter here, so you can vote if you happen to be reviewing anyway. If I get nothing, well I'll just go with the story idea with the one vote. Anyway, enjoy the fluff.
Please Keep My Secret
Chapter 6
Marinette would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous as hell to see Adrien that day, but she'd also be lying if she wasn't excited too. Her day started off with a hot breakfast made by her mama, and then a hot shower to warm up and wash her body. She styled her hair in a single braid, draped over her shoulder, making it easier to put a warm stylish hat on later. She put on a cute outfit that would keep her warm. A knitted dress she had worked all summer on to wear just for these cold months. Thick warm winter leggings, wool socks, and fashionable boots followed. Marinette put on a matching knit hat that went with her dress, and added a nice thick triangle scarf with fringes that draped down. To complete the outfit, she wore her new coat. The same one she let Adrien borrow that cold wet night.
It was perfect to wear that day because it was suppose to be very cold. She checked herself out in her full length mirror, hoping she looked alright. Tikki was floating nearby and was watching her with great amusement. The little kwami thought that Marinette looked very mature for her age in the homemade outfit and was excited for the date with Adrien. Not that Tikki thought either one would admit it was. Which it totally was.
"What do you think, Tikki?" Marinette asked, her uncertain expression, reflected back at her. "Too much? Not enough?"
"Oh, come on, Marinette," Tikki cried. "You look incredible!"
"Do I look...too incredible?"
"Marinette!" Tikki raised her voice. "You look perfect. Why would you think you look 'to incredible'?"
"I don't want him to think I'm trying to get him to notice me like that," Marinette stated as she frowned. "This is just us as friends."
Tikki flew in front of Marinette and gave her user a glare. "Marinette, you need to have more confidence. You are a beautiful young woman, going to a fashion shoot. There is no reason for you to not look your best in something you designed yourself."
Marinette felt her face flush as Tikki floated in front of her. Tikki was the sweetest thing, but she did have her limits, and it seemed like Marinette's doubts were forcing Tikki to said limit. "You're right, I'm sorry Tikki."
Marinette took a chance to look herself in the mirror one last time. Tikki was right. She looked good. Her outfit was fashionable and presentable to just be watching a photo shoot. She could do this, no matter how much she was doubting herself. If she could save all of Paris multiple times a week with Chat Noir, surely she could spend an afternoon with him in civilian form.
Marinette grabbed her purse and clipped it open, and motioned for Tikki to get inside. She closed it and put it over her jacket. She opened her trap door and walked down her stairs and went through her families apartment into the bakery to say good-bye to her parents.
Her mama was the one in the front, working on cleaning the display. Sabine smiled when she saw Marinette all done up in her outfit. "You look lovely Marinette," Sabine complimented. Then Sabine reached behind the counter and pulled out a bakery box and a thermos with two little foam cups.
"Mama, what's this?" Marinette asked.
"Hot chocolate and fresh special croissants with chocolate," Sabine stated. "Its going to be cold, and I bet Adrien will be hungry after the photo shoot, so your papa and I prepared this for you two."
Marinette glowed when she smiled at her mother, and went around the counter to give her a big hug. "Thank you so much."
She took the stuff from her mama, and gave her a wave before she headed out. Marinette caught a bus and got off pretty much right in front of the park. She held her breath and entered in the entrance the south-east entrance, the opposite side from the Eiffel Tower. She could see Adrien's drivers car parked nearby, and her heart raced in her chest as she got closer to the middle of the park where the shoot was going to be.
There was a small trailer set up and she knew that had to be it. And as she got closer, she saw Adrien standing and talking to both the photographer and Nathalie. She felt her cheeks go red as she approached. She was about a hundred yards away when Adrien turned when he noticed her heading in his direction. He smiled and gave her a friendly wave. Marinette felt her nervousness return again but she didn't feel the desire to run away like she normally did. At least there was that.
"Marinette! You made it!" he greeted.
"I'm not late I hope," she said before she turned to Nathalie and greeted her. "Thank you for letting me observe today, I promise I won't be in the way."
Nathalie, who never showed any emotion in her presence, gave an understanding nod. "I just told Adrien that the more he concentrates on his shoot today, the longer he will be permitted to walk around with you after."
"Yes! Of course," Marinette replied to the assistant.
"Great, I'll get changed into the first outfit," Adrien stated, turning to head into the trailer to change.
That left Marinette and Nathalie alone for now. The photographer still hadn't looked up from his camera. He was changing the lens, and playing with his camera, preparing it for the important shoot. There was complete silence between the three of them, and continued until the trailer door opened again and Adrien exited, wearing one of his father's new designs.
Marinette was so impressed with the first new outfit. It aged Adrien a few years older and made him look much more mature. It was a classic long wool coat for men that reminded Marinette of an old black and white movie male lead's coat. Slick looking but of course it had a Gabriel twist. It was buttoned up much further to the waist than to the centre like it normally would and it had a very long hood, that pulled down over Adrien's forehead. It reminded her of an Assassin's hood like from that one game. The whole coat was a deep purple but the hood and the lining was black. The buttons were also black.
Adrien made one of his famous poses and smiled at her. Marinette loved it. She expected nothing less than perfection from such an established brand like Gabriel's. When she closed her mouth that she quickly realized was hanging open she clapped.
"Very nice," she complimented.
It was a quick interaction and the photographer guided Adrien over to a bench to start the shoot. Marinette watched Adrien pose flawlessly in front of the camera with minimum direction from the professional photographer. There were shots taken with him standing casually, and more sitting down on the bench. Some with him spread out comfortably in the middle of the bench. Some of them had his hood pulled back, while others had them up still. The photo's at the end were ones of him walking down the park path, as if he were heading off to am important business meeting after a quick lunch break. It wasn't until he went to the trailer to change into the next outfit did Nathalie look up from working on her tablet.
"It's not my place to say this, but it is good to see Adrien interacting with friends outside school," Nathalie said aloud.
"I'm glad too," Marinette agreed. "I'm excited to be able to watch him work like this. He's so good at this."
"He's had many, many years of practice to master his craft," Nathalie explained.
Adrien came out, this time sporting a turtle neck with a waist length aviators style jacket. The twist on this one was that instead of being trimmed with a classic Sherpa lining, it was trimmed with white and soft fur, and the main jacket was black. The jacket rested open and over his shoulders to finish the look was a cream coloured cable knit scarf. His slacks were also sharply black, as was the leather business style shoes.
Another fantastic design from Adrien's father. Adrien again looked incredibly handsome and Marinette would have missed him asking her opinion if her heart was beating any louder in her ears.
"What do you think of this one?" he asked.
"You l-look awesome," she responded.
"Adrien," Nathalie reminded him.
"Right," Adrien answered. Knowing he had to focus. Marinette sent him a smile though his back was to her and she didn't see it. And the afternoon went about the same. He did his poses and tried several more outfits. Though Marinette and Adrien didn't focus on each other so he could get his work done. And it worked. When Adrien was done and finished, he changed out of his outfit into his regular street clothes. Nathalie looked over the schedule and the two teenagers looked on eagerly for the answer to how much time they had together.
The assistant looked at Adrien and gave a nod. "You have thirty minutes before we have to leave. Meet me back here by then."
Adrien lit up. "Thank you!"
Adrien turned to Marinette now and reached for her hand. "Come on, let's go."
Marinette fought the urge to freak out, and was able to take his hand. His touch warmed her entire body. Adrien guided her and the two sped walked around a corner, giving them some privacy and space. Marinette could only see that he was still holding her hand and she was blushing realizing that they were actually going to spend time alone in public and not just him in her room as Chat Noir. She was hopeful that the cold air would hide the fact she was blushing. She assumed this was in fact true when they stopped at a bench and Adrien sat down, letting go of her hand and didn't take notice of her flushed face when he stole a glance.
When he sat down, and took out his phone, setting an alarm. Adrien didn't get a lot of chances like this and she knew he didn't want to mess it up by losing track of time. She sat beside him, but gave them enough place between them that she could put down her bag of treats between them.
He smiled. "What's this?"
"Hot chocolate and chocolate croissants," Marinette said. "My mama packed them for us."
Adrien's face lit up. "Wow! That's amazing! Thank you."
She opened the packaging and offered him one of the flaky pastries, and Adrien grabbed one and hungrily took a bite. He froze for a second and gave her a look. Marinette stared at him, trying to figure out why he was looking at her like that. He was able to bite a piece off but then seemed to be struggling to chew the croissant but Marinette couldn't figure out why. Not that it took her long to realize why.
She let out a gasp when she realized she kept them out in the cold for too long and they were probably partly or completely frozen! She cried out. "Oh my God! They're frozen! Oh God! I should have kept them in the trailer!"
Adrien had managed to chew it enough to swallow. He was grinning. "Wow Marinette, and here I thought I worked hard enough modelling. Now you're making me work just to eat."
She was horrified and she face was now completely red with embarrassment. She took out the thermos and with the cups her mom packed she poured him a cup of hot chocolate. "I'm so sorry. I wasn't thinking."
Adrien was laughing as he took the cup from her and then took a long sip from the cup, letting the warm liquid warm his body. She couldn't believe this. Marinette was always messing up like this, but to her surprise, Adrien took another bite, and was chewing it with more purpose, making sure she took more notice.
After he swallowed and took another long drink, he spoke. "Well I guess my jaw could get a good workout too. Become more defined. Since you know, this is demanding such a work out to enjoy these delicious treats."
Marinette covered her face and he noticed her shoulders were shaking. Adrien's eyes went wide, thinking that he took the joke too far. He put the treat and drink down and reached over and put his hand on her shoulder. Marinette let go of her face and he realized that what he thought was muffled cried was actually her muffling her laughter. She let out a full belly laugh. He was relieved to realize she thought his joke was actually funny.
"I know, I'm a comic genius," he added.
This spurred more giggles from Marinette. She waved her hand, begging him to stop as she tried to use her scarf to wipe away the tears that were falling from laughing so hard. The whole situation was just so her. It was just something she would honestly do by accident, and the fact that Adrien was so quick to just joke about it, made her feel so much better. Even more so, she could just see her partner in front of her. It was such a Chat Noir joke to make, and she knew it was true that he really did have this goofy side to him. And he was comfortable enough to share it with her. Her. Marinette. Not Ladybug. Her.
The absurdity of the whole thing still had her laughing, and Adrien was now joining her, giggling at the whole thing. Soon the two teenagers were staring at each other and were still laughing. It tool several minutes for the two of them to calm down and when they did finally did, Adrien smiled at her softly. Marinette was smiling at him too. "What?" she asked. "Something on my face?"
"It's nothing like that," Adrien replied. "It's just...I've never made you smile like that before."
"Oh, that is not true," Marinette explained. "You've seen the photos I had up in my room. The amount of times I stared and got a stupid look on my face while staring like a creep is countless."
"No, I mean it," Adrien said. "I've seen you smile like that around almost all of our classmates, but I never have made you smile like that, face to face."
Marinette felt her heart race in her chest and she had to break eye contact with him and looked at her hands in her lap. Though she still was smiling. She felt his hand reach over again, this time, touching her cheek farthest away from him and guided her to face him again. Her cheeks grew hotter but their eyes met and the air left her lungs. He was smiling that handsome sweet smile that drove Marinette's senses crazy and his deep green eyes were looking at her. Really looking at her.
"Don't hide your smile, Marinette. It's your best feature. When I see that beautiful smile, it makes me smile too. Everyone around you always does. It's infectious," Adrien told her.
She hadn't realized how long they were staring at each other, and she still didn't know how long they actually did, but Adrien's phone began to buzz and it brought them back out of it once again. The spell was broken as Adrien reached for his phone and turned the alarm off. She couldn't help but notice that his cheeks were tinted pink, but she didn't dare believe it was because of her. It was just the cold air.
"I better go. My father is expecting me," he said, standing, ready to go. "Can I text you later?"
"Y-yes," Marinette responded. "I'd like that."
He went to leave but Marinette grabbed the pastries and held the box out to him. "You can take these. They should be fine when they thaw out. Even just a few seconds in the microwave will be enough."
Adrien's eyes lit up again. "Can I?"
"Of course you can. I can have them anytime I want at home, but you have to wait for a chance to have them. Enjoy," she said. "When they aren't frozen solid that is."
What happened next, was so quick Marinette didn't even comprehend the event until he drew away. Adrien had leaned over and had placed a quick kiss on her cheek. His lips were so soft she wasn't sure if she had felt it against her cold cheek.
"Thanks for coming today. I had a lot of fun," Adrien said, giving her a final wave before he left. This left a very shocked teenage girl behind. Her heart was racing in her chest and her cheeks were still red, but she also felt like she was floating on air. She smiled, mentally reliving the afternoon. This was a good memory. He had given her a kiss. The boy of her dreams had kissed her on the cheek. Her heart swelled. She had thought that her chances with Adrien was nearly impossible when she realized he was Chat Noir, who was in love with her as Ladybug rather than her everyday self, but now, she felt hopeful. Perhaps there was a chance, even if just a speck of one.
A/N:
1) Unmasked: The revision. So basically I want to update my popular Unmasked fanfic. With all the information up to season 3. It would actually be drastically different but it's basically the fanfic I would have written if I had the information at the time. I actually kinda hate this story despite how much people love it and would love to have a second go at it.
Story: Marinette's identity is revealed live on tv and she's horribly injured in the process. Its up to her partner Chat Noir to save her now from Hawkmoth whose set on hunting down her Miraculous and the Miracle Box she must protect.
2) Take my Hand: The Revision. So this is like Unmasked, a rewrite with information up to season three. They are older and the reason for Adrien becoming Chat Blanc is different. I actually reread this one recently and I always thought it was my best Ladybug fanfic and I realize now just how terrible it is. I want to take a few scenes and rewrite them while exploring another (more likely reason) Adrien would be Akumatized. A lot less inspirational speeches from Marinette, I promise. Seriously, she reads like Rick Grimes.
Story: Hawkmoth decides that if he can't outsmart Ladybug he's going to use Adrien, whom he had known is Chat Noir against her. Setting up Adrien to realize that his mother could be saved and he is Akumaized and he is set in finding Ladybug and and taking her Miraculous. It's up to Marinette, not Ladybug to save him and bring peace back to Paris before Chat Blanc destroys it all.
3) Of God's and Heroes. This own is a very light revision. Change the prologue which I always hated. better editing. not a full change. just gonna update the story without reposting it. I actually have someone who wants to edit it too so it should be better.
Egyptian AU with OC's. Mazel the slave girl and Ammon the son of a nobleman, charged with saving Ancient Memphis from the Akuma parading as Egyptian gods!
4) Untitled French Revolution ladybug fanfic
It's an OC Ladybug story. Much like my fanfic Of God's and Heroes but set during the French Revolution. Chat Noir and Rena Rouge are using their powers to further their political agenda. Ladybug and Carpace are charged with getting back the stolen Miraculous before the two rouge heroes push the revolution too far and France crumbles. Features a trans Ladybug inspired by the real life historical figure, Chevalier d'Éon.
5) A Fractured Porcelain Mask: AU story set in 1920s Paris in a Circus.
Story: Marinette is an aerial acrobatics specialist in the circus she was raised in. Born into a world that wouldn't accept her, she remains in the safe walls of the Circus which has its own demons. Unable to cope with the abuse she suffered as a child, Marinette wears a mask during her performances and takes on the Persona of Ladybug, known for her daring nature and lucky escapes from near death. Adrien is the son of the new owner and is being training to run the business before he will inherit his father's bigger business. There he see's a world he is envious of. Sheltered his entire life he see's wonders he never thought possible, especially in the young Marinette who has many unseen scars, and who never fears what may happen as long as she has her mask to hide the truly scared girl underneath.
6) Consequences of Falling With You: Set after Highschool, where Marinette is attending Design school and Adrien is working for his father full time. They haven't seen each other in a year. This would actually be a two parter. I have a one-shot sequel planned too called Consequences of Loving You. These would be worked on back to back.
Story: Busy with school, Marinette is focused on her education while fighting Akuma. And Adrien is struggling with his home life and finally decides that he doesn't want to remain in his father's life anymore. Using his powers, Adrien runs away, and moves in with Nino. He gets a job to pay his bills while he figures what what he wants to do with his life. Outside of patrols and Akuma's he rarely see's Ladybug at all. And since moving out, Adrien has noticed the Akuma attacks have all but stopped, and he see's Ladybug even less. Though that gives him a chance at a real social life. With this, he begins to hang out with Nino and can make new friends, while reuniting with old ones. Along with Marinette, who seems strangely less shy around him anymore. Hidden away in Paris though, a Father is desperate to get his son back, especially to get him away from that trouble maker, Marinette. And he will do whatever it takes to do it.
So, those are the plans so far. If your going to review anyway, please share the ones you'd like to see when this fic is done. Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. I actually had a lot of fun writing it. All while I had a toddler crawling on my back while trying to sing along to Moana. That was pretty funny. Until next time!
