Sorry I had disappeared for sometime there I had some health issues that caused me to not have the energy or the will to continue this story even when I wanted to carry on. But I am back and working once again.
Chapter 34
And there came a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes were united against a common threat! On that day the Avengers were born! To fight thee foes no single hero could withstand!
Kate had heard that saying the first time that the Avengers had first formed after the alien invasion of New York City. She had grown up with the Guardians battle phrase that Nightshade had drilled into all UNITs forces to make the two militaries work better with each other on knowing what she was after. The Avengers motto after it was first told to the world by Tony Stark had become their symbol like the phoenix that all the Guardians bared on either their clothes or tattooed onto their bodies like Black Horn and Edward. With the whole Seth fiasco that was having the whole world turn in on itself she could not think back to this motto that meant so much to many children out there. She was not blind that the children loved the Avengers. Children loved superheroes. Many adults loved the Avengers as well, but there was a few like General Ross who despised any superpowered beings.
Kate looked out at the city of London. London had been her home since she was little girl. Her father being the head of UNIT when he was younger had mainly been based in the capital city and within the walls of the Tower of London like she was in the present day. She did have a country home in the country well away from the city and the madness that came with it, either if it was human or not human caused. It was always good to get away from it all she always thought. There was only so much she could cope with before she felt a massive headache beginning to form right behind her eyes. She knew in those instances that she was away that Nightshade will be able to look after UNIT until she came back.
Moving her attention from the city that at the moment was calm and looked like London was going to have an uneventful night like usual to Nightshade. Nightshade was sitting at her disk with her hands in her silver hair looking at the open book that was on the desk. Kate felt sorry for her old friend. For all her life she had known Nightshade as a master tactician and a fighter who does not roll onto her belly when defeated. The person that she saw in her office was not the proud leader that she had always gone to for advise on different maters.
Movement caught Kate's eyes and she spotted both Edward and Julian. The Ghoul and the Werewolf, like Nightshade had played a big part in Kate's life. They had always been at Nightshade's side as she stood at her fathers side and then her side in the early years of her taken over UNIT. The both of them like Nightshade had played a big part in Kate's life in growing up. Edward and Nightshade teaching her how to use weapons and the environment to her advantage. Julian was the goofball out of the three of them. He always made her feel like a kid, something that being the daughter of the Brigadier didn't allow her to be like normal girls her age.
Kate looked at the three Guardians more closely. They all looked tired and out of hope. Something that she had not really seen with the three of them. The Big Three as they were dubbed all around UNIT were always seen to have a plan after a plan in case the first plan had failed. That was something that she was not seeing with the three of them.
Julian was sitting slumped on a desk chair beside Nightshade. His normally well looked after hair was damp from either being in a shower or sweat. She didn't know what it was, but Julian's hair that was normally well groomed was envied by all the women in UNIT. Julian had been called into this mission along with the Winchester brothers and their angel friend after being told that it was a simple mission.
On paper it was a simple mission. Move the Book of the Dead from the Mansion in Scotland to the Tower of London where it was closer to Egypt. It would also be away from Shadowstalker. From what she could gather from what Nightshade had told her was that this Shadowstalker was a dark version of Nightshade that had been created by Unicron during the events that had brought Galvatron from his dimension and into their own dimension. If anyone wanted to know what an alternative dimension looked like with an evil Nightshade they would just have to look at Shadowstalker to get that information.
"What are you going to plan next Nightshade?" Kate asked Nightshade. She was fed up of the silence that was surrounding the three of them. Normally they would be coming up with a new plan to get them out of the mess that they found themselves in. A plan that would normally see them winning.
Nightshade sighed and slumped further down in her chair. "I don't have a plan at all Kate! The only thing that we can do is wait for Seth to make his move! And let me tell you Kate it is going to be a big move that he is going to make!" she responded to Kate's question. She finally looked up and into Kate's eyes.
"When do you think he is going to strike?" Kate asked Nightshade. She could see Nightshade's mind was already working on a plan. She smiled but the smile fell when she saw Edward's head turning to look in her direction. She was glad that she had got Nightshade thinking again. It was something that she thought would not happen with the lost that they had just suffered at Seth's hands.
Nightshade stood up from her chair. Edward was quick to follow after her. "We have to assume that it is going to happen at any time now!" she said to all them. Her attention moved to Julian. She rolled her eyes at seeing the Werewolf slumped in his seat and playing with his rifle. "Julian!" she shouted at him. The reaction she got was instant as he jumped up out of his seat and beside her Edward snorted at his reaction.
"Yes Boss?" he asked as he saluted at her.
"Oh come on!" Edward grumbled and rolled his eyes at Julian. He dropped back into his chair as he watched Julian pretending to be series. He didn't understand how Nightshade could cope with that side of Julian for so long, but she had. For whatever reason Nightshade had kept Julian around. True his skills made him a good spy, just as good as either Jazz or Mirage from the Autobots and that was enough to keep Julian within the ranks of the Guardians and UNIT. But not enough to make him their third in command like he was. Edward had to count his blessings that he was not taken orders from the crazy Werewolf.
"Gathered all the Shadow Men that you can along with any other spirts that you can gather!" Nightshade ordered him. She didn't wait for him to respond as she turned her attention to Edward. "Eddie I want you to group up with Black Horn and the Winchester brothers and their battery. See if you cant have the winged freak call in his brothers to help us!" she ordered the Ghoul. Said Ghoul didn't need to say anything to her as he walked away from them and towards the lower levels of UNIT base.
Nightshade's attention was then on Kate after Julian walked out of the office. "Thank you Kate for keeping your hopes up!" Nightshade said to Kate as the head of UNIT sat down on her seat once again.
"It is nothing like what you have done for our planet Nightshade. I just got you off your bum and out of the self pity party that you were putting yourself into!" Kate told Nightshade. Kate pushed a few buttons on the computer sending orders out to UNITs forces in preparation for the strike that was no doubt coming their way by Seth and his allies.
"But I am the leader of the Guardians. I am not supposed to go into depressed mind sets! I have to keep everyone in this base working smoothly!" argued Nightshade. Her eyes glowed a bright red as her true form slowly began to show itself.
Kate looked at Nightshade more closely. In her human form, Nightshade looked human and acted human in this form. It was sometimes, growing up that Kate mistook Nightshade for another human like her and everyone else that she grew up with. As she grew up she learned that Nightshade's human form was meant to keep her disguised as she walked alongside humans. It made her both approachable and also deadly. "Nightshade all great leaders are allowed to have moments of being human! And you are no different!" Kate told Nightshade.
Nightshade stood up from her chair and walked towards the door of Kate's office. "Thank you Kate!" Nightshade told Kate as she opened the door to Kate's office. Without another word Nightshade walked away from Kate and towards the hanger where the other Avengers were meeting.

Seth smirked as he looked at the capital city of Great Britain. Beside him stood his commanders of his army and behind them his army waited in the shadows.
"My Lord? Your orders!" Python spoke up from where she stood beside him.
"Begin the attack! So no mercy and bring all the Avengers to me alive! I want to make an example in my kingdom!" Seth ordered. His eyes glowed a bright yellow as his army, of monsters and demons rushed into the city of London with the intents to kill anyone and everyone that crossed their paths.
