A/N I wanted to get this out a lot earlier but I've had a ton of Uni work this week and everything has just been a nightmare but I've finally managed to get it done. I wanted to try a chase this time and I think this one turned out alright. When I was writing it, it seemed a bit off but reading it through again, it was a lot better than I thought. It could still be improved but in terms of writing I'm still only starting out so if you guys have any tips to improve they are more than welcome. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Here's the story. Enjoy.
As the two teens sprinted through the streets of London, Touma Kamijou could only lament the three mistakes that he had made.
His first mistake was taking Misaka as his plus one. She may have been his girlfriend but considering the people going to the party, he really should have taken her short temper into account.
His second mistake was keeping his mouth shut when she was allowed to take her arcade coins with her into Buckingham Palace. The guards had seen nothing wrong with it as they had no idea what she could do with them. Although, in his defence if he did say something, she probably would have gotten arrested right there and then.
His third mistake was letting her talk to Motoharu Tsuchimikado. He had no idea what Tsuchimikado had said but about ten seconds later, both Misaka and Touma were sprinting through London being chased by the Queen's Guard who were furious at the large hole that was left in Buckingham palace.
"This is the last time I take you to one of these parties!" screamed Touma.
"Oh, come on! He had it coming and you know it!" Misaka replied attempting to defend herself.
"So, you fired a railgun at him?!"
"Not at him! Past him! If I fired it at him, he'd be dead!"
"Next time, just tell me and I'll slug him!"
"How is that any worse from what I did?!"
"Because it doesn't leave a hole in Buckingham Palace! That's how!"
The two continued to sprint through the streets attempting to lose their pursuers. They planned to dive into every second alleyway that they could find and prayed that it didn't lead to a dead-end. However, one of the two people being chased was Touma Kamijou. A boy who is famous for having the worst luck on the planet by a long shot. And so, the second alleyway they had dived into lasted about thirty meters and then abruptly stopped with a ten-meter wall.
"Rotten Luck."
Touma looked at the dead-end in despair when Misaka picked him up princess carry style.
"Do me a favour and keep that right hand away from me, will you? I'd rather not get to the top only for my powers to fail. Last time hurt like hell"
"I said I'm sorry, okay?!"
Before Touma could apologise any further, Misaka started using her magnetism to climb the side of the building. Once at the top, she looked down to see the guards splitting into two teams. One that stayed in the alley in case they came back down and one that headed back out of the alley, presumably to find a way to reach the roof where the two criminals were. However, there was no way Misaka was going to wait on them and so with Touma in her arms, she started using her power to hop from rooftop to rooftop.
She managed to get through three rooftops until a sword made of fire suddenly crashed into the roof in front of them, blocking their path. The attack caught them by surprise, and they looked over to see a man with red hair that reached his shoulders two rooftops over. Styl Magnus was there with a cigarette in his mouth and rune cards in his hand looking bored.
"Oh, come on. They're sending sorcerers after us now? Was firing a railgun at that asshole really that bad?" asked Misaka exasperated.
"Looks like it. And just my rotten luck. They don't seem to be holding back either." Touma elected to ignore that last question. He didn't want to be dropped off the roof.
"Okay, I'll concentrate on running, you concentrate on Defence." Misaka said, switching her hold on Touma so that he was on her back. The two took off again trying to put some distance between them and their new pursuer. However, Styl wasn't letting them get away and was using as many flame swords as he could. He didn't seem to care how much of London he had to destroy to catch his prey. However, Misaka was too agile for Styl to keep up with and she had Touma on her back who could negate any attack that Styl threw at them. After only a few minutes of jumping over rooftops, they had managed to lose him.
The only problem was, Styl was not the only sorcerer to join in the hunt.
"Oh, crap. This isn't good." Said Misaka looking in front of her.
"What is it no-. Oh, come on!"
Standing about five rooftops over was a saint and one that they really didn't want to have to fight. Kaori Kanzaki. She wrapped her hand around the handle of her 2-meter-long katana, the Seven Heavens Sword and faster than Misaka or Touma could see she unsheathed it letting loose her Seven Glints attack. The attack just missed them but Touma knew Kanzaki's abilities and it was not because of Misaka that it missed. Kanzaki closed her eyes exhausted with having to deal with the consequences of Tsuchimikado's actions.
"I ask that you not continue with this foolishness. You should surrender no-"
Before Kanzaki could finish her sentence, Misaka had already jumped of the roof and were now back on the street with Touma running on his own again.
"Should we have listened to her?" asked Touma.
"Hey, it's her fault for not keeping an eye on us."
"I'm not sure that's a good enough excuse if I'm being honest."
The two manged to reach an open area where Touma realised something and stopped. There was nobody there. It may have been night but unlike Academy City, there was no curfew so there should have been bars and clubs open and a lot of people filling the area with varying degrees of drunkeness. "That spell again?"
"What spell?" asked Misaka stopping to look back at her boyfriend.
"A spell that keeps everyone except the target out of a certain area."
"That means we won't hurt anyone if we fight, right? That's a good thing."
"It would be except for the fact that it means they probably expect this place to be the final battle?" Touma pointed in front of him. "Looks like I was right."
"I hate it when that happens. You're never right about anything good."
About thirty meters in front of them was a line of the Queen's guards with what Touma would refer to as 'pretty scary weapons' all getting into position. They were carrying SA80 rifles that were currently trained on the two of them. To make matters worse, Styl decided to make his entrance, scattering his rune cards around the area and summoning Innocentius. The Witch-Hunter King stood there menacingly holding a 2-meter tall cross made of fire and ready to attack as soon as Styl ordered it to.
Then from somewhere behind the two appeared the biggest pain in all of Touma Kamijou's life. The boy who was, in Misaka's opinion, the reason that this whole ordeal started. Motoharu Tsuchimikado.
"Yo, Kami. How are ya?"
Touma's right eye started twitching. He really didn't want to have to deal with the cause of almost all of his problems. So instead, he walked up to the blond spiky haired boy….and punched him as hard as he could with his right hand. He knew it wouldn't worked but he was a little hopeful that using his right hand would negate any magic on him that caused him to cause Touma so much trouble. Surprisingly, nobody stopped him. Perhaps they all agreed that he deserved it.
"Now that you're surrounded, will you please stop this foolishness?" asked a voice from the rooftops even more tired of having to deal with such a ridiculous matter than before. Kanzaki dropped down from the rooftops behind Tsuchimikado, cutting off any escape route.
"Fine. On one condition." Said Misaka with her arm outstretched and holding a solitary finger out. She knew she couldn't win this fight but she still wanted to do something before they could take her in.
"You're not really in a position to make demands, girl." Interrupted Styl. He was getting impatient and just wanted to get back to Index. They had left her back at the Palace so she should be safe but he'd rather be there protecting her himself.
"Would you rather have to fight me or just take us in?"
"Tell us what you want, and we'll consider it." Offered Kanzaki prepared to attack so that she could finish any fight before it even started but if she had the option, she'd like to avoid hurting her. They were meant to be friends after all.
"I get to punch Tsuchimikado really, really hard in his stupid face."
A chorus of "Deal"s resounded throughout the open area immediately. It seemed everyone here agreed that this was something long overdue.
"Wha? Zaki? How could you? I feel betrayed?" said Tsuchimikado feigning hurt.
"Hey, Tsuchimikado…" Misaka's voice was dark and her raised fist was sparking. She resembled the Meltdowner more than the Railgun at that moment. "You heard the deal, right?"
Before he could reply, Misaka was already in front of him, fist pulled back and ready to be unleashed into his face.
"DIE YOU ASSHOLE!"
Misaka with as much fury as a human being could muster swung her fist into Tsuchimikado's face. She was fairly sure she broke a bone. Or Three.
The next day, Misaka found herself helping to repair the hole that she made. All in all, she thought that she got off pretty lightly. However, that was most likely due to her relationship with Touma rather than the Queen not thinking it was a big deal. She had expected to get at least one night in a cell if not longer. She'd have to thank Touma the night that she finishes for reducing her punishment and for joining in with the repairs. He claimed that he had technically helped her escape the Palace so should be held accountable as well but Misaka wasn't buying any of that and found herself looking forward to the night they finished.
About halfway through the day the last person Misaka wanted to see showed up after being ordered to help as well. He had been the centre of her anger after all and so was at least partly to blame. He may have also been ordered to help so that nobody had to put up with his shenanigans anymore but there was no proof of that.
As soon as Misaka saw the boy with the green shirt, bluish white sparks started discharging off her body. And so, when Index decided that Touma needed to feed her, she found him trying to hold back a very angry Misaka from making Tsuchimikado-shaped holes throughout Buckingham Palace.
A/N And there we have it. What did you guys think? What worked? What didn't? Any and all constructive critiscism is fully appreciated. Thank you.
