Chapter 2:

Elena couldn't figure out why her stomach began acting up and only saltines as well as ginger ale kept the nausea down.

Well, she knew but she didn't know how it happened-weren't all vampires sterile?

The last guy she was ever with was that vampire in Mystic Falls and here she was, four weeks later sick to her stomach in a hotel with Hayley.

"Maybe it was food poisoning?" Hayley whispered weakly, unable to come face to face with the truth herself.

"Is that what you tell yourself every time you worship the porcelain god?" Elena asked weakly. "Honestly? I really need to research how I'm pregnant by a vampire." She pointed at Hayley. "The guy you were with? Hybrid. They are the only loophole in the 'sterile vampire' mythology that I can find. All hybrids have the wolf gene so they can have children...it'll just take them a while."

Hayley leaned against the cold tiled walls and allowed herself to forget her predicament.

"I'm going into the bar where this witch works," Hayley whispered. "Do you want to come and just research the crap out of what happened to us in the car or stay here and do the research?"

Elena sighed as her forehead was lying on the cold porcelain. Lifting her hand, she flushed the toilet and nodded.

"I'll go," she whispered. "Just make sure that we stalk up on ginger ale and saltine crackers for me." She gave her a half hearted glare. "Your morning sickness hasn't reared its ugly head yet. Lucky."

Hayley stuck her tongue out at her.

"Oh sister..." Hayley whispered in a teasing tone. "Mine happens at night. You have the literal morning sickness, mine is a 'night morning sickness' thing."

"Well at least we don't have it all the damn time," Elena sighed in relief. "Hopefully there's a potion or something to quell the nausea..."

"Maybe grandma has it in her grimoire?" Hayley mused questioningly. Hayley had always called Elena's family members as her own because they basically raised her from the time she was thirteen when she was kicked out.

The two were raised the majority of the time by Elena's grandparents who were gypsy and Romanian witches while Elena's mother Isobel Flemming was a researcher and a vampire and her father James Thomas was an adventurer and a vampire who loved exploring new places.

At the moment, they were in some rainforest searching for something-whenever they call it was poor reception.

The only thing that Elena was grateful for was not mentioning that she was pregnant to them.

She wanted to know how, find the vampire who knocked her up and see what happens between them before filling her parents in.

Hayley held in her breath as the alcohol and spices in the air made her stomach roll. Closing her eyes she counted backwards from fifteen to one a few times to ease her upset stomach.

"What's your poison?" She looked at the blonde bartender who smiled at her.

"Do you have any ginger ale?" She asked. "Sorry-food poisoning so my stomach can't handle the alcohol." The lie rolled off her tongue easily.

She didn't want everyone to know about her pregnancy just yet.

The bartender got her a glass and filled it up with the preferred drink before passing it to her.

"Food poisoning really sucks," the bartender said in agreement. "I've had it and for twenty four hours I wanted to do nothing but die." Hayley grimaced at the thought before taking a sip. "But you look like you need answers." The bartender went on to wipe the bar down and Hayley nodded.

"I'm looking for someone named Jane-Anne Deveraux," she said as the name was on rolling off her tongue. "She said that she knows my family or something? I'm not sure where she is."

"She's in the back," the bartender told her. "I can get her for you."

"Thanks," Hayley said before taking a sip.

Elena was curled up in the backseat as Hayley was in the bar, getting answers. The brunette had her phone opened and was searching through her digital grimoire for what could have caused this when something popped out at her.

She didn't get a chance to read it as Hayley got into the car and Elena's phone battery died.

Biting her tongue, she looked up from her position to see Hayley's jaw clench.

"Answers aren't what you like?" She asked her, calming her friend down.

"Guess who gets to go into the cemetery?" Hayley asked sarcastically.

"Nothing good happens in a cemetery," Elena teased. "Apparently these witches don't watch horror films."

"Or they do and are planning on murdering us," Hayley told her.

As Elijah entered the bar that Hayley left hours ago, he found himself remembering the last time he was in a bar and a brunette witch caused him to lose control of himself...

Only for a moment he lost control.

He would have ordered a martini but decided against it, getting the whiskey and the bartender seemed to flirt with him but it did nothing for him.

She didn't have brown hair in waves to her shoulder blades, chocolate eyes that penetrate his soul and the taste of chocolate and peppermint on her lips.

It was her blood that still haunted his taste buds-he wasn't sure but the sweet strawberries and bitter chocolate had never tasted so good together in his thousand years of living.

No, blondes weren't his thing and he knew that Klaus was tired of them because of Caroline.

However, she apparently held the answers that he was seeking out.

Klaus was hiding his disgust in Marcel's actions of flat out murdering a witch for practicing.

He remembered the boy who wouldn't kill a witch yet here he was, slaughtering them like they were insects instead of powerful allies.

Biting back his anger, he made sure that he seemed happy about it when he wasn't.

"She knew the rule," Marcel's voice rose over the vampires cheering. "She knew that practicing was against the rules and this is her punishment."

If given a chance, Klaus would neutralize him.

Hours later as they learned from the witches that they were to be expectant fathers, Elijah made sure that Elena-the brunette witch of his dreams-was safe in his bed.

Slowly, he walked outside and saw Klaus just looking at his hands, hope and curiosity brimming in him.

"We won't turn out like Mikael," Elijah whispered. "I don't believe we will."

"How were we able to do something like this while others couldn't?" Klaus asked.

"Elena has a theory about the hybrids," Elijah told him softly. "Since hybrids are both-wolf and vampire-they are a natural loophole. It'll take them a while but it's possible for hybrids to have children."

Klaus raised an eyebrow and Elijah chuckled.

"She told me when I asked her before she fell asleep," he explained. "She's trying to figure out how a 'devilish sexy vampire' could have children."

"Was she asleep and talking about you like that?" Klaus laughed.

"Close to it," he laughed. "I'm not saying anything to her about it though."
