Letting go
Just as Bonnie thought, the day was exhausting. She was running from one place to another but now she was finally sitting in the hotel room in Paris. It was really nice to look out of the window and see the Parisian streets, just like she remembered from the last time she was in this hotel room. Her and Enzo stayed in Paris for two weeks and those were the best she has had in the last probably eight years. They both decided that they would come back here one day when all the craziness with Sybil and Damon would end, but things were messed up and now she is here without him, living her life like she promised. Paul was out with his best man Jerome – Bonnie had to stop herself from laughing when she met this handsome vampire for the first time – they wanted to have some man – time. Jerome was a tall, muscular guy with blonde hair and blue eyes. In addition to it, he was very charming, so that he had woman lying by his feet all the time. But he had only eyes for his girlfriend Linda. They met in the 18supth/sup century when he was slowly dying from a disease. She turned him into a vampire, and they haven't separated yet. Bonnie could understand why. They were a beautiful couple. Linda was also tall and blonde with bright green eyes. She looked like she stepped out of a magazine. Turned out that she was pretty nice too. So, Bonnie became really close with both of them. Even though they all were vampires, they were kind of normal – well as normal as vampires could be – and Bonnie really enjoyed having friends that didn't come with all the drama.
While Paul was gone, Bonnie decided to take a bath, but when she was searching for something to put on after, she found a small box. She always took it with her but never even touched it. After staring at it for a while, she decided that it was finally time to really say goodbye. She opened the box. In it were a few pictures of them, one of his t-shirts that she loved to wear, the notes to the song they were working on together, when she was still hiding from the Armory and… the necklace he gave her – filled with his blood. Bonnie touched the piece of jewelry slightly, suddenly feeling sad.
"I do as I promised. I'm living my life, just as you wanted", Bonnie whispered, with tears in her eyes, "But there are days… days when all I need is for you to hold me." She felt the tears now running down her cheeks. "Enzo, I will always love you so much but it's finally time that I let go of the past. I am marrying a man who is making me so happy and who loves me with all his heart, and I love him too." Bonnie felt a light shiver running down her spine. "I know that this is what you want for me. And I want you to finally find peace. You do not have to look after me anymore. I'll be fine. I promise." There was hand on her shoulder, but she was alone in the room. "Goodbye Enzo, we will meet again in a few decades." She kissed the necklace, finally letting all her tears fall.
"Bonnie. Is everything okay?", Paul entered the room with Jerome in tow. She turned around, still holding on to the necklace. "Yes, I am", she said truthfully," I said goodbye to my past and now I can fully be yours." She smiled at him, wiping the rears away. He nodded, smiling lightly. He understood. He always did. And he was happy, that she finally let go. Paul wasn't an idiot, he knew that she was still attached to someone, when they first met. So, she told him about her dead boyfriend. He didn't know any details, but he knew how much she loved that man. But at this time she was ready to be happy again and Paul liked her from the beginning, so they gave each other a chance and fell in love immediately. The vampire was okay with her past, but he still felt a wave of release run through him, when he fully understood the meaning of her sentence.
He kissed her forehead and told her that he forgot his wallet. "I'll see you at dinner, beautiful." She nodded and pecked him on the lips. When the men left, she finally went to shower. It felt so good. She was feeling at ease, now more than ready to marry the man she loves.
"No Elena, you don't get it!", Caroline shouted at her phone, "There is still a chance! I could get him back!" The blonde was the only one who didn't accept the fact that so many people have died and for the last few years, she was desperately searching for a chance to get her husband back. She couldn't just live on without him. "Care, I know that it hurts but – ""No buts! I found a witch. She might be able to get Stefan back!"
"Man, what's up with Bonnie? She looked like someone died." Jerome tried to understand what happened a few minutes ago in the hotel room.
"Well someone did die", Paul stated matter – of – factly, walking into the first store that he saw. He wanted to buy Bonnie a small present for their wedding day. Something nice that she can hold to like she did with this small box, she took everywhere with her.
"What do you mean?", Jerome puckered his brows, looking weirdly at his best friend.
"Well her ex – boyfriend was killed by one of her friends when he had his humanity off. She still missed him and I get it, but I am happy that she finally said her goodbye because now I can be sure that her whole heart belongs to me."
"Oh wow, I didn't know… That sounds hard. Is she still friends with that guy?"
"No, I believe he is dead. But it doesn't matter. Because it seems like her friends aren't so happy with her moving on and won't come to her wedding. At least not the wife of the boyfriend – killer."
Paul looked at a petite necklace. It was golden with a small charm: a small circle with the Eiffel tower in the middle. And he found the right present. He knew that Bonnie would love it. It would look great on her long tempting neck. "I'll take this one", he said to the middle-aged woman, that come to the counter. She looked exactly, how he imagined a worker in this store to look like. It was small, with a supernatural allure to it. The whole shop reminded him of Bonnie just as much as the necklace did. The woman had long grey hair, she wore a long flowery dress and much jewelry. "That's a good choice", the woman smiled at him, "Is it for someone special?" "My future wife. We'll marry in a few days", he told her and looked at a few candles on the counter, "What are these for?"
"Those? They are very special. They help you to leave the past behind. The make your ghost disappear.
"I'll take two", Paul told the woman and smiled at her. Jerome was just watching him quietly. He knew that this wasn't about Bonnie and her dead boyfriend. It was about him and his loss.
The woman wasn't surprised, he already knew that he wasn't human and that there would be something that is holding him back at times. She felt it the moment he walked into the store. She wasn't a witch, but she had a few talents that she inherited from her ancestors, who were witches. And one of those talents, was sensing dead. She could feel, when a person was dead - or at least mostly. And she could feel when death followed a person. And this guy was definately a vampire and a victim of death. But there must be more to it than just simple death. He seemed broken. Only when he looked at the necklace and thought about his special woman, it was as if he forgot every burden that life has placed on him.
"Of course, here you go", she packed the necklace and the candles into paper and gave it to Paul after he payed for them, "You really should forget everything. It happened a long time ago."
Paul looked at her curisously but then he knew it – a witch. Of course this place made him think of Bonnie. It had everthing that stands for her and was even run by a witch. The place was all around magical. He thanked the woman and said goodbye, leaving the store with Jerome behind him. She was right, it was time to forget. It has been over a century, but I was still haunting him. He couldn't understand, how his mother lived without all this guilt…
"Come on, man", don't swallow your feelings. You know, you can talk to me", Jerome spoke quietly, hoping that his friend would actually speak to him. He knew about his family story but he wanted Paul to finally get over it. He couldn't change the past and grieving about it for centuries is not an option.
"I'm fine, Jer", said the dark-haired vampire, "I'll get over it someday. But come on, we should go get some food."
"If you say so", the blonde answered, not really believing his friend, "I'm not hungry yet, so I think a creperie is better. I know a good one, it's not far from here." They silently agreed to drop the subject and just continue with their plans. They didn't have the time to dwell on the past.
