Klaus stayed by my side for the next few days. All of his guests had cleared out quickly after the night of the party. The place was so quiet.
"Klaus?" I asked him one morning while eating breakfast.
"Yes love?"
"I-Can we….do you think that maybe I could, I don't know….get out of the house for a bit?"
"Violet…" his eyes darkened a bit.
"You can come with me! I just...I've been here so long. I just want some different scenery or something. I don't have anyone to really talk to I miss….." I cut myself off. I had only thought about my friends sparingly since I'd gotten there. In the back of my mind again something was screaming at me that this was weird. Something wasn't right. But as usual I buried it deep down and ignored it.
He didn't say anything to me right away. Just stared at me from the other side of the table. His look had softened a bit, not as intimidating as it had been a moment ago.
"You know we can't do that." he finally said.
"But Klaus I just-"
"No!" his voice raised just slightly "It's too dangerous."
My face fell and I averted my eyes from his.
"Look...not today, okay? In a few days we will leave here."
"Really?" I perked up "Where are we going?"
"Italy."
"Italy? I just wanted to go to the mall or somethi-"
"We're going to Italy." he moved closer and took hold of my hand "And when we get there, THEN you can go anywhere you want. Still with me, of course. But we can go to museums and restaurants and nightclubs...where ever you want! We just have to wait a few more days. Alright?"
Italy! I couldn't believe it. I had always wanted to go there, it was on my bucket list ever since I was 12 years old. Of course I had planned on going with my mom at the time as a girl's trip…..my mom…...dad…...Jeremy….Elena…...Damon! Everything came flooding back quickly and I shook his hand off of me.
"But wait...my friends! I can't leave! Klaus please let's just stay here!"
His face was already twisted in surprise once I shook his hand off, and a flash of anger went across him for a split second.
"Come with me upstairs. I'm hungry."
"But Klaus wait...please…" I pleaded but he dragged me anyway.
On our way up the stairs Marcel jogged up to Klaus.
"Hey boss…" he began "I had a few questions about our plans for the trip coming up I was hoping you could…"
"Not now Marcel" he growled at him "We'll discuss that later."
Marcel glanced at me. I swore he had a nervous look on his face but I was being dragged along so quickly by Klaus I couldn't tell if it was real or just a passing glance from him.
We finally made it up the stairs but this time we turned and went the opposite way down the hallway. Towards Klaus' room where I'd never actually been. I'd only seen him come in and out.
"Klaus what are you-"
"Hush and get in the door." he demanded.
He gave me a small push through the door and shut it behind us. His room was even larger than mine was and had just as many windows. The colors in his room were a darker theme than the one I was in. Lots of deep reds and golds. His bed was huge with four posts and a canopy above it. It was wooden with beautiful carvings through out all of it.
"Klaus what am I doing here? Are you going to hurt me?" I turned towards him.
"There you go again! I would never do that. Have I hurt you yet?"
"Well you've been keeping me here against my will and using me as a human blood bank Klaus. That's not exactly a friendly thing to do to someone."
"I'm keeping you safe. If you're here with me, no one else can get to you. No one else can hurt you. And I always replace what I take from you." he moved closer. "I figured after I was finished if you wanted to stay here…."
"You want me to...what? Why?" I was shocked at his assumption.
"It was just a thought….." he replied.
"Klaus I'm-you know nothing else will happen, right? So unless you force me to I'm not going-"
"Force you! I wouldn't force you to do...that!" he scoffed "But...why not? Look it's fine that you don't. I won't make you but I'm curious why…"
"Because…." I trailed off.
"Because?" he asked.
"I told you...you're keeping me here against my will and you think I would sleep with you? And another thing…"
"There's someone...isn't there?" he interjected.
"What? I'm not talking about this with you."
"Let's see….Stefan is off the table. The werewolf isn't your type I'm sure, and the human is too boring. Sorry, no offense. So that leaves Jeremy….and Damon. Which one is it?"
"Klaus…" I warned.
"No matter. We're dropping the subject." he walked over towards me.
I flinched slightly as he went to bring his hand up to my neck. He noticed and faltered slightly for a moment.
"What's that all about?" he asked.
"It hurts, you know…"
"It's still hurting?" he looked concerned "I didn't realize…..I can make that stop."
He grabbed me and sank his teeth into my neck. This time it didn't hurt, not more than a small stinging sensation. It was…..odd. How did he do that? He can make it stop hurting? So strange…..but then my mind started to drift. Everything went calm and happy again. He pulled away then fed me his blood again and the world seemed to make sense again. I stopped asking questions and he seemed happy.
"So have you thought about my invitation to stay?" he smiled.
I hesitated. I almost said yes but I stopped myself.
"No thank you, Klaus." I replied.
"You're free to go back to your room then." he was still smiling, so I at least hadn't made him that angry.
"Goodnight Violet." he called out as I shut his door behind me and walked back to my room.
I was so exhausted that I barely had enough time to get undressed and into my pajamas before I passed right out in bed.
