Chapter Six

Luke parked outside the diner, behind his wife's jeep and Rory told him she was going to quickly stop at Lane's to give her the scan photo before anyone else was given theirs. Luke nodded and hopped out heading into his business and seeing his wife and daughter already munching away on food that Luke didn't approve off. As he walked through the door they turned to look at him.

"HUSBAND," Lorelai said dramatically lifting her arms in the air

"WIFE" Luke replied sarcastically as he walked over to the table, kissed said woman gently on the lips, kissed April's forehead then grabbed a chair sitting between them.

"Where's Rory?" April asked him adjusting her glasses

"She went to give Lane her photo, she wanted her to give her's before anyone else" Luke replied as he stared disapprovingly at their food.

"You were ages" Lorelai replied

"Rory asked if we can drop the step parts in our relationship and if she can call me dad, I was quite emotional" he replied, "That's alright isn't it?" Luke asked looking at Lorelai who hugged him tightly, emotional herself.

"Of course it's alright, it's better than alright, we already call them our daughters anyway amongst ourselves, I know you didn't do it in public to respect Christopher but now he's gone, there is no misunderstanding about who her dad is" Lorelai replied.

"I say it should have happened years ago, or you should have done what I did when I had the problem and thought of an alternative, right chimmug?" April replied looking at Lorelai who beamed and nodded.

Rory walked in at that moment telling her family Lane had gotten so excited she walked into a lampost outside her house, they all giggled as Babette and Miss Patty walked over.

"Oh, you are still so adorable after all these years" Babette gushed "Couple of the year and their darling daughters" she went on and everyone laughed. "Hey honey," she said squeezing April who faked a smile as she was squished.

"You've grown again, stop it" Miss Patty said joining in

"Abril wasn't meant to be here, it was a nice surprise," Lorelai told them.

"I don't think you ever told us the story behind that nickname" Miss Patty questioned.

"Don't tell them the story!" April said embarrassed

"But it's an amazing one!" Lorelai smirked devilishly as their friends sat down to listen.

"When April was younger and attending middle school a new student transferred to the school, a boy named Riley" Lorelai started. "He seemed to have a crush on her following her around and asking her questions, he kept bothering her so she 'no hablo ingles' which is I don't speak English in Spanish" Lorelai started. Rory smirked as she saw her sister sliding down into her seat.

"He seemed to speak a bit of the language because he asked her what her name was in said language and she said," Lorelai said turning to her youngest who was low in her seat.

"I had to say, Abril, if I said April my cover would be blown because why would I be called April in a Spanish speaking country, I wouldn't I would be Abril, like the month in Spanish" she replied sitting up and blushing.

"She replayed the story to me when I picked her up and since then I have teased her with that nickname" Lorelai replied as the table laughed. Seeing she was sad and embarrassed Lorelai put her arm around her.

"It's okay honey we all do embarrassing things when it comes to boys, Rory said thank you then left after her first kiss" Lorelai went on embarrassing her eldest.

"MUM, no-one needs to know that" Rory replied embarrassed

"And you couldn't stay on your feet when I got brave enough to ask you out, you fell into a table, walked into a door and into a member of staff at the inn" Luke replied smirking as he embarrassed his wife.

"I remember that you suddenly were very clumsy" Patty replied as she laughed with Babette.

"Alright we are all bad with romance but hey you bought Rachel cat potholders that meowed for her birthday and thought she would like them" Lorelai replied not leaving her husband out the embarrassing train.

Babette and Patty told old stories about their relationships too until Patty had another question.

"What about the nickname April gave you?" Babette asked "It doesn't even sound English" the woman went on.

"It's not when they got back together I wanted to call her something other than Lorelai all the time because it sounds so laidback and informal and like we have no relation but old friends but I have a mum and I didn't want to upset her calling someone else mum and I felt odd calling someone else mum plus she wouldn't let me anyway, she didn't want to take over from mum" April started.

"I couldn't decide on what to call her but then I remembered Lane is Korean so I asked her what mum is in Korean and it is chimmug, I told Lorelai and she laughed and said having a weird nickname suited her so it stuck" April replied beaming.

"It's so sweet," Miss Patty said before she had to go as she had a class to teach. Rory handed her and Babette, who was leaving to meet Morey, the scan photos.

"Oh, angel the baby is perfect if you ever need anything tell me" Miss Patty said squeezing Rory.

"Air please, I need air to breathe so the baby can too" she choked out as the woman let go of her.

"They are so excited it's so sweet," Lorelai said as they left.

"Aww we didn't have time to tell them about our nicknames Trekkie" Rory replied with a sigh.

"Don't worry Blue orbs, if we win the couple of the year contest again I will explain it in the speech your mother forces us to make" Luke replied smiling at her and the nickname, loving spending time with his girls.

"We WILL win, we always do and we don't even have to do anything, people naturally love us," Lorelai said kissing him.

"You even get Taylor's vote which is nearly impossible" April replied as the family had fun, talking laughing and loving each others company.
