Chapter 1-
It's a long, long way to Ba Sing Se~
"Uncle! I have a problem!" I sighed, blowing on my tea gently as my nephew came barreling into the lovely tearoom he had made for me. Since being crowned Fire lord, Zuko had seemed so much happier. The people loved him, the other nations' leaders and people were loving him, and he had Mai. I couldn't have been prouder of him.
However, everything seemed to go downhill with his lovelife, when Mai had ended things ("For good." She had said, glaring at Zuko before stomping out and leaving the palace. Apparently, he had been too emotionally forward with her, or so she claimed. Neither of them understood what she meant.) Since that day, Zuko had been somber, contemplative, and far too silent for my liking.
"What is the matter, My nephew?" Zuko sighed, loosening his tight collar. "I'm not even sure. Something just feels wrong. And not like something bad is going to happen, but like something's not correct, like something's missing." Zuko began to pace, hands fisting his robes tightly. "I tried everything, talking to my friends more often, visiting Azula more, I even visited my father. Nothing seems to be working, and I only feel worse. "
I leaned back, slowly sipping my tea and watching my nephew pace. He was ranting as he paced, but I had long since given up on actually listening to him, my mind already churning with his latest sceame to make my nephew happy. He had everyone that he cared about with him. Or did he.
"And I just feel like I've forgotten someone! Something's missing from my heart." Zuko finished, dropping down into the seat beside me. I wordlessly handed him a cup of tea, waiting for him to take a sip before speaking, choosing my words carefully. "Who could you have possibly forgotten? Perhaps it is something from before? Someone not from here? A pretty little someone who liked you before you were fire lord?" Zuko nearly dropped his tea, eyes wide.
"Jin."
I smiled softly, taking Zuko's tea from him and patted his shoulder. "Do you think she's the one missing from your life? She really seemed to like you." "She was...is...hm." I laughed, giving him a gentle rub on the head.
"My dear nephew, I think you might find what's missing if you look closer. I did tell you once that the girls in the city look so pretty, yes? Though, I suppose you found only one beauty, ey, nephew?" Zuko blushed, but nodded."I didn't realize you were this taken with her. Why not visit her? It can't hurt to try and see her. I'm sure Jin is worried, after all, we did just disappear without a word. Perhaps she is your missing piece."
Zuko perked up for a moment before sinking in on himself once more. "She doesn't know who I really am, uncle."
"Bah, that's just a minor technicality! Don't worry! I can take care of things here. Just go down to Ba sing se, and find her! Then you can wine and dine her, make her your fire lady, and give me some great nieces and nephews!"
Zuko flushed darkly. "Uncle!" I gave him a shove, forcing him to stand when I did and pushing him to the door.
"Never-mind me, nephew! You have more important matters to attend to! Like securing a ride to Ba sing se, and figuring out how you'll tell her!"
