Jackie dashed through the lane, which was dark and cluttered with all sort of urban debris. She had managed to go about a hundred and fifty yards, and had made a turn into another dark alleyway, when her phone rang.
"Jackie. At last I found you!" cried the Doctor. "Wait! Is that a Carbonized Transmat Telezircon-37 you have?"
"A Carbonated what? Oh you mean the Diamond that was in Phrropox's ear?"
"Yes, exactly! It's an earpiece. Now listen carefully. I'm still trapped in the time bubble. But I found a way to talk to you directly through your cell phone. The problem is that Phrropox can track your cell phone. That's how they found and killed Nyusi. If you keep using your cell phone they'll track it and catch you. You have to turn it off, throw it away, and put the Carbonized Transmat Telezircon-37 in your ear."
"Eww! No, it was in his ear! And my cell phone costs money!"
"Jackie, if you don't do it, you'll be dead within the hour. Quite possibly sooner. I'm your only hope, and you're only mine. Please, you have to do this."
Jackie winced, but then noticed a children's nook, draped with balloons. She turned the cell phone off, hoped she would remember the place in the morning, and placed it near one of the balloons. She then wiped the "diamond" and grimaced as she put it in her ear.
"Good girl!" the Doctor said. "Hold on a minute. There's going to be a high-pitched noise, as I transmit something so they won't track you through the earpiece."
Jackie winced and gasped as there was a high-pitched shriek. "Sorry! That should work now. Now keep running, and try to be quiet."
"What if I see one of the Angels?"
"Don't blink. That's the key thing. OK, let's update things. The TARDIS has arrived in Manethysia. Haven't you found it odd that the Kraal were speaking English? That's because the TARDIS has telepathic circuits that in turn make you comprehend all known languages. When it arrived I knew it instantly. But there's something wrong with the TARDIS. Because when it arrived, the shock of the telepathic circuit connecting to me hit me like a metaphorical ton of bricks. And I was unconscious, and by the time I awoke, it was too late to save Nyusi.
"Now let's think. There's the conspiracy and there are the Angels. Phrropox acts for the conspiracy and he arrived before the TARDIS did with the Angels inside. How did he and his masters know the Angels transported me here in the first place? Most logical explanation is that the Angels who transported me was able to know where and when I was. That's not good news to hear. And also the Angels must have some way of communicating that to the conspiracy. The simplest explanation is that the conspiracy can communicate directly with the TARDIS. That's not impossible, but it's rare and it's also not a good thing that they know how to do that."
"Where does Cassandra come into this?" Jackie asked.
"How do you know about Cassandra?" the Doctor gasped.
"She told me that there was going to be a trap. She also mentioned something, the Mallory circuit?"
"It's the Malachi circuit. And that's very bad news. But she's probably bluffing, since she shouldn't be able to access it. At least, I hope so?"
"But who is she?"
"Oh right. She's a sophisticated and highly intelligent computer who can foretell the future with complete accuracy. Supposedly. And she's completely evil. And she helped the Angels take the TARDIS. And since the Angels don't use sophisticated communications very much, she must have been their link to Phrropox's bosses. Now let's think. Why bring the TARDIS here? I'm trapped in Manethysia with no way of getting my TARDIS back. Bringing it here leaves the risk I could take it from them. OK, there must be something wrong with the TARDIS that they need my help. What could it be? Now if Cassandra prevented you from meeting the Angel, she must have her own plans. What could they be?"
"Uh Doctor, if Cassandra can foretell the future, how do we beat her? Aside from the fact that I'm unarmed and you're trapped in a time bubble?"
But as Jackie turned a corner, somebody tripped her. A strong arm grabbed the back of her shirt she before she hit the ground. It was an Al-Zephani, the one who had watched her leave the inn earlier the evening. He and two of his colleagues quickly frogmarched Jackie to meet the others and the Joelamosia.
Meanwhile the Nyusi Angel was rummaging through a shop, looking for the supplies that Cassandra had suggested. Just then the shopkeeper, distinctly shorter, plumper and balder than most Abelards, dressed in the Manethysian equivalent of a nightgown appeared. "Oi! What are you doing here? It's the middle of the night!"
And then he blinked and the Angel zapped him back a half century in time. The Angel soon found what he was looking for, two very elaborate clocks. "Well, well, well," the Angel said with Nyusi's voice. "He" crushed one, took a closer look at the other, and smiled.
