Jack Bauer's cellphone rings. A technician is alerted, but someone named Marcus just leaves a message.

.

Marcus: Jack, it's Marcus. I don't know if you got away from Tony. If you can, call me back, I'm still willing to help you and Audrey get away, for the money. If not, I'll skip town soon. You know my number.

.

Mason heard this message and realized that "Marcus" was probaby Marcus Kane. Kane was a mercenary, an expert at helping fugitives escape justice. Jack had already said that he and Audrey were using him to get out of the country, but assumed he had already fled. Tony admitted that he had forced Marcus to help set them up, and then let him go. Normally Mason wouldn't be concerned with this guy, CTU had bigger priorities at the moment. But he realized, Sabzi and Dubaku likely had an exit strategy, perhaps one or both of them planned to meet with Marcus later. This might be their best lead yet. Mason went to see Jack.

.

Mason: Your friend Marcus just called, asked if your little deal was still on. Now my understanding is that he's a mercenary, offering his services to the highest bidder.

Jack: That's accurate.

Mason: Dubaku and Sabzi may have wanted to supervise things personally, but they must have an exit strategy. Would they be willing to use Marcus and would he be willing to help them?

Jack: If they have the money, yes.

Mason: We'd like you to call him back, help lure him out. Maybe we can use him to find these two.

Jack: Okay.

.

Jack called Marcus' number, and he answered.

.

Marcus: Jack, you got away from Tony?

Jack: Yeah it wasn't easy. DId you sell me and Audrey out?

Marcus: He forced me to help him at gunpoint.

Jack: I still need your help, do you have the identities?

Marcus: I do if you have the money.

Jack: I do.

Marcus: Good, I'll text you my new address. Be here in one hour, or I'll have to leave you alone.

Jack: It might be difficult to get there myself.

Marcus: I would think you're motivated right now.

Jack: I still don't trust you.

Marcus: Can't say I blame you. Okay, send someone you trust, with the money.
