The airbender slowly took his glider, trying not to show too much of his exitement, and gave his friend a sweet grin. Spirits, Lin wouldn't ever tell anyone, but she had always been the kind of person who could be persuaded with a nice meal. And there she was, standing with a raised eyebrow, a smile tugging on her rosy lips and a glimmering in her eyes that could only remind Tenzin of their teenage years. He had missed this so much and it was becoming harder by the passing seconds to keep himself from touching her delicate cheek, grazing the dark scars that marred her face, but made her in no way less beautiful.

Ok, I really need to calm down with the thoughts about touching. Spirits...

Pema was cooking her favorite food, and Lin was thankful, no doubt, but she didn't really have any idea about how she should handle the situation. It had been a reoccurring thought of hers to finally be on good terms with the acolyte, but as everybody knew, Lin was never much of a person to hold deep conversations with people she barely had anything to do with and it was hard for her to even remotely show her own emotions. In her mind Pema had always been her literal opposite and it was a challenge for her to really understand the younger woman's character. This was one side... the other being that the younger woman made the airbending master hers, causing him to leave Lin after all this time of being Republic Citiy's golden couple. Said airbender was happy though, oblivious to Lin's doubts, he was practically beaming with joy at this point and it wasn't all that hard to notice, really. Lin had come to terms that this must've been the best choice for both of them... this didn't mean that she never thought about other possibilities with him by her side though. Those were merely dreams, fantasies which she chose to keep locked in her heart so they'd never see the light of day. It was inappropriate, to say the least... and she was ashamed.

If I wouldn't know better, I would think that we were still in our twenties. This damn Arrowhead...

Beifong cleared her throat, coming back to her authoritative self. 'So... For how long have you two been planning to do this?'

This question did not surprise Tenzin in the slightest. Technically it was normal for Lin to think that him and his wife would have planned something like this to finally lure her to come to the island. It's not like she ever really chose to visit them on her own accord anyways. Why was that, by the way?

The airbending master raised his eyebrows and let his hand find Lin's. Both of them chose to ignore their skin tingling and burning at the sudden contact they have been craving. It would be the best if they didn't pay attention to it. And perhaps also stop craving to touch another.

Stop thinking about touching.

'We're not having an interrogation right now, but just so you know, it can't even necessarily be described as 'planned'. I had no idea Pema was cooking for you at this hour. But you must admit, it's a friendly gesture isn't it, Beifong?'

She answered by crossing her arms and giving him a signature cocky smirk.

The nerve this man has.

'I'm the chief, I'll do interrogations whenever and wherever I please to do them, airhead. You can't tell me that your dear wife herself had the brilliant idea to do this. If I recall correctly she isn't exactly my biggest fan.'

Her counterpart watched her closely, catching the teasing tone she was going for.

Fine, if she wants to play this way she can have it.

'Hey Crankypants, how about you stop talking and come on my glider with me? Like old times? Then you can see for yourself how big of a fan my wife is.'

At that she froze. The sarcastic remark that was already prepared suddenly forgotten.

Like old times indeed.

Was she ready to be this close to him again? What would she do if people saw them? She had to consider her reputation and, of course, his as well... What would his wife say? What would-

Just as she was letting a thousand thoughts race through her head, she felt the ground vibrating. Precautious as she was, Lin immediately turned around only to be violently hit by a much smaller figure literally running into her with full force. Thankfully, she managed to grab the woman by her arm (albeit being a bit rough) and helped her to regain her composure. She herself didn't even lose her own balance. The girl was way to petite to do any serious harm.

A maroon colored, curly head, and fierce, black eyes which seemed almost glassy in the moonlight, full of tears threatening to overflow, glared up at her. Her plump, peachy lips were set in a strong frown. Then, when noticing whom she had run into, her expression turned into one of pure shock.

She could be described as interesting...in a way, Lin thought, amused.

'Woah kid, be careful when scampering around like that, you'll only hurt yourself and others on top of that, and I don't want people coming in my office to greet me with charges against you.' , Lin scoffed in a stern but caring way.

The girl took a few deep breaths before blinking rapidly, obviously trying to get the tears to dissappear as soon as possible. After that she attempted to meet Lin's eyes in a determined way, but failed and looked even more pitiful than before.

'Chief...Chief Beifong? I-I'm...sorry...'

The earthbender let her eyes rest on the younger woman. A certain warmth formed inside her chest and she found herself smiling at the girl, being somehow charmed by her jazzed display. Tenzin just eyed both of them suspiciously, eyes darting from one woman to the other, trying to understand the situation.

'Lin do you know this person?', he asked with his usual serious voice, no trace left of the teasing they had been taking part in just mere seconds prior.

The curly haired mess that had just interrupted their friendly (flirty?) banter took a quick look at Tenzin and Lin, her face turning a shade darker. She didn't know where to leaver her eyes, so she just uncomfortably stared at the ground, her head held low.

Just when the chief was about to respond to her curious friend, the woman, whose arm she still held tight, started shaking, not being able to keep it together any longer.

'C...Chief...they burned my house down...'
