A/N: As it says in the Summary, this is sort of a Self-Insert OC. This is my first story, so tell me what you think by reviewing!
Disclaimer: I only own my SI-OC. The other characters and a lot of the plot belongs to Marvel.
Chapter One: Change
I walk down the sidewalk I know so well consumed with my thoughts. I could walk these roads with my eyes closed, so I don't pay attention when I turn the corner onto my street.
The only thing that snaps me out of my daze are the sirens.
Sirens.
SIRENS!
I raise my head and widen my eyes as I see the firetruck fly by me towards the house that is consumed in flames.
As I get closer, I realize...
That's MY house!
I sprint the rest of the way there. I see my neighbor talking to the officers that have shown up. I run straight towards her.
"Where are my brothers? My parents?!"
My panic starts to build as I watch her say, "I'm sorry, Amber. They're stuck inside."
"No... NO, NO, NO!"
I try to bolt inside, but the officer holds me back.
"I'm sorry," he says, "There's nothing you can do. Leave it to the professionals."
But I barely hear him as I see the house cave into itself.
Involuntarily, I let out a scream as I collapsed into a heap and I didn't get up.

I wake up in a haze.
Where am I?
As I regain focus, the memories of last night wash over me.
The tears quietly start to stream down my face as I think of my family, and how I'll never see them again.
Mrs. Lamond walks into the room and immediately rushes to my side when she sees that I'm awake.
She holds me close as I sob into her shirt. I can feel tears splash onto my head and realize that she is crying as well.
We stay like that for a while. Holding each other as we are consumed by our grief.
"I am sorry for your loss."
I am so sick of that phrase.
Though, I don't blame them. What else do you say to a fifteen year old girl who just lost their entire family?
It doesn't change the fact that that phrase still tends to make me want to punch the person saying it.
The funeral services just ended.
It was nice for a funeral. Mrs. Lamond spoke as she was like family to us. She and my mom were best friends. I was asked to speak, but I couldn't. I wouldn't know what to say.
Of course I miss them, and I will remember them. I feel that there is no need to point out the obvious.
After the service, all I can think is... What now?

I sit in the stuffy office with my arms crossed firmly over my chest.
"No." I say for the fifth time.
"Sweetie, we don't have very many options. I think that, if you try out the foster system again, you would be able to be happy with your foster-family."
"As I've told you before, I am not doing the foster system again after those psychos."
I spent a week after the funeral and then social workers started butting into my life.
I was not able to stay with Mrs. Lamond permanently because she and her house did not fit regulation or whatever. I honestly was too angry with them to listen to their excuses.
After that, they put me in the foster care system. Let's just say, they really need to work on making sure these people really are fit to house a kid, especially a teen.
The social worker across from me sighed as she saw that I was not changing my mind.
"Fine." I visibly brightened at that. "We won't put you back in the system."
"YES! ...But why?"
"We have actually gotten word that your mother had a half brother."
I looked at her in confusion.
"Why have I never known this before?"
"Before the fire, your mother never knew her father, so she decided to take a DNA test to find out. We saw this and retrieved the results to see if that could lead to any family members, since we were unable to find any on our own."
"Does he know I exist?"
"No, but we can inform him and if and only if he agrees to let you in, you can try staying with him instead of the foster system."
I considered my options for a moment before replying with, "I'll take it."
"Alright, I'm glad we were finally able to reach an agreement, Amber."
As she got up to lead me back to where Mrs. Lamond was waiting for us, I asked, "What is my uncle's name?"
"Stark, Tony Stark."

Tony's POV
"Mr. Stark, there's a call coming in from social services."
I looked up from the equipment I was working on as the announcement was made by JARVIS.
"I'll take it in my office," I said.
As I made my way to my office, I pondered on what could have possibly had Social Services calling me.
As I pondered what it could be about I arrived at the office and picked up the phone.
"Hello, this is Tony Stark you're speaking to."
A female voice answered on the other end.
"Hello, Mr. Stark. We are calling to inform you that we have located some relatives of yours through a DNA test," she paused.
"You had a half-sister by the name of Kristine Tamoya."
I stood there in shock. I had never had any hint that I had any siblings. As I kept thinking about what she had said, I noticed a small detail in the wording of the sentence.
"I'm sorry, had?"
"She and most of her family recently died in a house fire. The reason we called you was because the only living member of her family was a fifteen year old girl named Amber. We were wondering if you would be able to take her in."
I was shocked to say the least. I had no idea how to deal with this or what I should do.
"Could I take a day to think about it?" I asked.
"Of course, Mr. Stark. We know this is a lot to take in. We'll call you back tomorrow."
The call ended.
I walked over to where Pepper was looking over something in the living room area.
"What was the call about?" asked Pepper.
"Apparently, I had a half-sister and because she and most of her family died recently, they are wondering if I will take in her daughter."
"Well, are you?" she asked.
"I don't know," I replied honestly.
"I think you should," said Pepper. "It's obvious that the girl needs family and her other option would be foster care. If you're really family, you should offer her a home."
I looked up surprised. I did not expect her to encourage me to take up that kind of responsibility.
"I'll think about it."
