Chapter 2: Lizzie
Bella's POV
"Wait so that's why there was so many killings going on in Seattle? A newborn army? My family suspected that it it was their kind that was behind the mass killings but they never said anything about an army. My family was seriously thinking about going to Seattle and investigating the problem themselves before the Volturi got involved. Then all of a sudden the killings stopped. It never made any sense. Until now," Lizzie explained.
"Do the Volturi know about you?" I asked her curiously.
She shook her head. "Nope and Damien is determined to keep it that way. Especially since his plan is to keep me human," she rolled her eyes. "If you ask me I wish they did know. That way they'd force my family to turn me even if it is against their wishes,"
I shuddered. She'd already heard my story so she was well aware of my situation with the Volturi.
"You're better off without them knowing about you. Trust me. You're safer that way,"
"Yeah you might be right," she said though she didn't sound convinced.
"So where do you live?" I asked.
"Portland, Oregon. I moved in with my father last year after my mother died," her voice softened.
"I'm sorry,"
"It's okay," she mumbled sadly. "Anyway it hasn't been all bad. If I hadn't moved I wouldn't have met my husband or his wonderful family,"
"So tell me more about them. Your family I mean,"
She looked thoughtful. "Hmm well let's see there is Cora Carrington. She was the first in our family. She's the matriarch in our family. The leader of the coven. She created her husband Joseph first. He was dying at the hospital where she was working at and there was no other way to save him. They created Damien next. He'd just been attacked in the street and left for dead. Then she created Brandon and Danielle next. Brandon had been attacked by a wild animal and he was so badly injured that there was no other way he could survive. I'm not sure what Danielle's story is as she doesn't even remember herself. Then there is Jason who is Cora's and Joseph's biological son-"
"Wait what did you just say?" I gasped.
"Oh you mean the whole 'biological son' thing? I forget how odd that could sound to other's who don't know about Danielle's power. It's the reason our family is so determined to stay hidden from the Volturi. I probably shouldn't even be telling you this myself,"
"What? You can tell. I can keep a secret,"
"Danielle has the power of procreation. By that I mean she can sort of awaken a female vampire's uterus and therefore allow her to conceive a child. Even with humans she can make an infertile woman fertile again as long as nothing is missing or has been surgically removed,"
I was astounded by what I was hearing. "So what happened then? She made Cora fertile and she had a child?"
"Exactly. She had gave birth to the world's very first vampire baby. Jason aged super fast. He was fully grown at about four years old I've heard. He stopped aging when he looked 18,"
"You said he was the first. Does that mean there was more?" I gawped.
"Yes. Cora and Joseph had another child. Jasmine. She's fully grown also. Danielle and Brandon also just recently had a baby. A boy named Brandon Jr. he's only two months old but he looks like a two year already,"
"Wow,"
"I know. It's quite crazy isn't it? They all thought Danielle had a hand in my pregnancy. Nobody believed her when she told us otherwise. She was just as confused as the rest of them. She'd only assisted in same species conception. Since I'm human and Damien was a vampire they never imagined I could would ever conceive a child with him as a human. Damien nearly killed her when Cora told him that the baby was killing Lizzie," she rolled her eyes.
"So they wanted you to have an abortion?"
"They wanted to force me into an abortion is more like it. They were prepared to do it today. Thank God they thought I was asleep so I was able to overhear their plans. But I won't let them kill my baby," she said fiercely.
I held onto my own baby bump. I felt a tiny kick. I was never more certain that I was doing right thing then I was right then and there.
"It's just too bad. Because I love them and they love me. They're a great family even if tbe red eyes take some getting used to,"
Red eyes? "Does your family drink human blood?"
"Well duh. What else are they supposed to drink?"
"and you're okay with that? Them drinking human blood?"
"Well it's not like they have a choice," she snapped. I could see that I'd hit a nerve. "They'd rather not drink human blood but it's not like they have a choice now do they? Don't be so hypocritical you married into a family of vampires to,"
"My family doesn't drink human blood. They drink animal blood,"
She was taken aback. "What? You mean that's is an option?"
"They don't want to hurt people so they commit to a 'vegetarian' lifestyle as they call it,"
"Well damn," she said. "Can't believe that Cora never thought about that. If I ever see them again I will run that idea by them,"
I sighed. "I'm sure that you'll see your family again,"
She sighed. "If I survive the pregnancy I'll hopefully see them again. I'm more worried about what will happen if I don't survive. Who will take care of my baby?"
I inhaled and let out a shaky breath as I thought of my own baby. Who would take care of him if I didn't survive?
Just then one of the flight attendants announced that we were beginning our descent to Orlando. Lizzie and I had been so engrossed in our conversation about our families and our situation that I didn't realize how much time had passed. Neither had she it seemed.
"So what's your plan now?" she asked me.
"I don't know. I don't have much time to think things through when I left this morning. I just packed my bags and headed to the airport before anyone could stop me. What's your plan?"
"I don't have one either," she sighed. "Look I managed to steal about twelve thousand dollars from my family. Maybe I'll just get a hotel and figure it out from there,"
"Look," I said. "I have about ten thousand dollars that I took from my family. Why don't we pool our resources together and help each other. We'll get a hotel room for the night and figure things out from there,"
"Okay. I guess we really are in this together now aren't we?" she questioned.
"I think there was a reason fate brought us together Lizzie. Two girls in nearly identical extremely rare situations? We were meant to find each other and help each other out,"
