Chapter 3: Blood
Bella's POV
"I think what we need is blood!" Lizzie said so suddenly that she scared me.
"What are you talking about?" I groaned. Neither of us had slept very good last night. It was impossible to get comfortable. The baby kept moving as if he wasn't very confident either. Lizzie was having the same problem.
"I think what we need is blood. I just thought of it right now and honestly I'm surprised I didn't think about it sooner. Maybe the reason that our bodies are having such a hard time processing food is because our babies are half vampire. What if the problem is thirst?"
Blood. Of course! Why hadn't I thought of that sooner?! I face palmed myself. Why hadn't I thought about that? It made so much sense. The baby needed blood. But there was still one problem left.
"How are we going to get blood?"
"I don't know," she look defeated now. "I guess I only figured out half of the problem,"
I tried to think of how we could get blood and test out the theory. The only place I could think of that would have blood is a hospital. But we couldn't just walk into a hospital and ask for blood without looking crazy. Could we steal it? No that wouldn't be easy to do. First of all we'd have to know the complete layout of the hospital and where the blood was stored. Also there was sure to be security cameras everywhere. She and I had no chance of escaping in our current state. If we got caught it wouldn't take long for the authorities to figure out that there was something different about our pregnancies.
"Bella what are we going to do?"
"I don't know. I'm trying to think. The only place that would have blood is a hospital and we can't just take blood from a hospital without looking suspicious. Stealing is also out of the question,"
"Why does this have to be so complicated?"
"I wish I kn-ouch!" the baby had just kicked me very hard in the ribs. I rubbed the spot where my little EJ had just kicked me. It hurt so bad. I could already see another bruise forming.
"You know what? Maybe we should go to the hospital," she said. "We need to do something. Maybe there is a way we can sneak in and steal the blood somehow,"
I shook my head. "I really don't think that's possible. For starters we don't even know where the nearest hospital is. How are we even going to pull this off?"
"I don't know Bella. But what I do know is that this is the best plan that we've got right now,"
"You're right," I admitted. "We don't have any other ideas. Let's just figure out where the nearest hospital is at and the we can take things from there,"
We down to the lobby where there were some computers. Figuring out where the hospital was at was the easy part. Figuring out what to do from there wasn't going to be so easy. Things were very complicated but it would all be worth it in the end. I had saved my EJ's life and that was all that mattered. I would do whatever it took to make sure that my baby was born. Even though that meant protecting him from his own family. I knew that Lizzie was just as fiercely protective of her own half human baby. I saw myself in her.
A quick search on the computer told us that the nearest hospital was twenty minutes away from here. We got a cab right there at the hotel that drove us to the hospital. There was a lot of people there in the hallways. That was a good thing as Lizzie and I were able to blend into the crowd much more easily.
We kept on walking until we found a directory. But nowhere did it say where they stored the blood.
"So where are the donor blood bags stored?"
Our heads snapped up at the same time when he heard one employee ask another. What luck!
"There on the fourth floor. Room 401,"
"Thanks," he said.
"You're welcome Liam,"
"It's barely my first week here so I'm still trying figure this all out,"
"Hey don't worry about it. We were all Med students and interns at one point," the girl he was talking to answered.
He didn't seem to notice that he was being followed. He didn't even notice us until we were in the elevator with him. He gasped and his face turned white when he saw us but he didn't say anything. It was probably just a reaction to our appearance. We looked horrible even to ourselves.
When we got off of the elevator Lizzie and I waited a few seconds before we started following him again. We watched him open door 401 and go inside. He left a few seconds later with some blood bags.
"He didn't close the door all the way," Lizzie whispered excitedly.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes. Look. He left it open just a little. We can get in and out,"
The adrenaline rush kicked in and we walked as quickly as we could and got in. The blood smelled so good. That had to be a good sign. Lizzie and I began to stuff the bags we'd brought with blood.
"I'd hurry up and get out of here quickly if I were you two,"
My heart plummeted to the floor when I heard someone other than Lizzie speak. My head snapped up quickly. In the doorway stood the intern we'd just followed.
"How did you-"
"Let's just say I know stuff. I have an excellent intuition about people. I know stuff,"
"What stuff?" Lizzie asked.
"First off I know your name is Elizabeth Carrington. But you prefer to be called Lizzie. You're pregnant with a half human half vampire baby girl,"
How did he know that? The guy was clearly human. How could he have known that about her?
His eyes turned in my direction next. "I also know that your name is Isabella Cullen. But you prefer being called Bella. I also know that you are pregnant with twins. A half human half vampire baby boy and a half human half vampire baby girl. Look I'd love to stay and chat with you girls but you two need to leave now. Or else you'll get caught. Just take what you have already and go,"
