Chapter 4: Secrets

Bella's POV

The adrenaline rush wore off when we got back to the hotel. Then I felt as if all of the energy had drained out of my body. With the invigorating rush now gone I felt even weaker than I had before. Lizzie opened her bag first. I watched her carefully tear open the first bag of blood. The delicious aroma of the blood filled the room. I didn't know there was anything that could smell as good as that blood did.

I watched as she started to drink. Right away color started to return to her face. A healthier glow started to replace the ghastly look of her skin. We were right. Blood is what we needed.

"How does it taste?" I asked her. It looked tasty.

"It tastes...good. Very good actually. Better than I could have imagined. I feel stronger already,"

I didn't hesitate a second longer. I tore open one of the blood bags that I'd stolen and started to drink. The blood tasted even better than it smelled. It was so good. I could feel my strength beginning to return. I tore open another bag and quickly drained it's contents. The baby kicked. Happy to finally receive some much needed nutrition.

"I can't believe that we actually pulled that off," Lizzie said.

"Not quite. We did get caught technically," the memory of Liam made me shudder. What could that boy have known? How could he have known? He was human. Humans don't know about the supernatural world. Well humans were not supposed to know about the supernova world. As far as I was aware Lizzie and I were the only humans that knew about vampires.

"Yeah who was that guy?" Lizzie voiced out loud. "How'd he know so much about us?"

I shrugged. Hopefully it was nothing to worry about. We already have enough to worry about as it was.

"You know what's ironic about coming here? At least for me?"

I was trying to figure out what Lizzie was asking me and I failed. "No," I admitted.

"What's ironic is that I have always wanted to visit Orlando, Florida. Ever since I could remembered I would beg my mom to take me here so I can visit Disney World, SeaWorld, Universal Studios...all the really big theme parks you know? But we never had enough money to make a trip like this. Now that I'm finally here I can't even go to the parks,"

I felt Lizzie's pain. It was a sad kind of irony. "Well Lizzie if you survive this then maybe you can come back one day. Maybe even with your baby," I tried to the best that I could to cheer her up.

She sighed. "I'm not so sure about that. Even if I do survive I'm going to be a vampire soon. If that happens I won't ever be able to come back and really enjoy this place,"

I started thinking about my own life. I missed Edward and the rest of the Cullens so much that it physically hurt. I hated to be apart from Edward but I needed to protect my baby. I didn't understand why Edward failed to see that our baby was not a monster. That he was a good person just like his father.

A sudden knock on the door made me jump. "Can I talk to you two?"

Lizzie and I were both frozen in fear. We both recognized the unmistakable voice of that intern from the hospital. How did he track us down? Lizzie was faster than I was and she opened the door for him.

He walked in carefully. Slowly. "Here I brought you girls something that I thought you might need," It was only then I realized that he was carrying food. Bags filled with things like burgers, and fries. My stomach growled. "Now that your babies have gotten the blood they need you shouldn't have a problem keeping food down,"

"Who are you?" Lizzie demanded.

"I told you before my name is Liam. Look why don't you two eat and I will explain everything,"

I grabbed the first cheeseburger that my hands touched. "I'm sure you two have a lot of questions,"

"That would be putting it extremely mildly,"

Liam laughed. "Okay, so how do I start?"

"Why not start by telling us how you know so much about us?"

"It's my gift. I have a very powerful sense of intuition. As soon as I meet someone for the first time I automatically gain every bit of information there is to get about that person. Even things that person may not know about themselves just yet. It only takes about a fraction of a second for me to learn someone's entire history, their strongest desires, their deepest darkest secrets. I know stuff about people that they don't even know themselves. That's how I know for sure that you Lizzie are carrying a girl, and that you Bella, are carrying twins a boy and a girl,"

"Wait did you say twins? How could you possibly know that?"

"Like I said I know things about people that they don't even know themselves just yet. I have never been wrong about a person that I've met before. Just like I also know that you're gifted. You're a shield,"

"I'm a what?"

"You're a mental shield. That's how you keep everyone out. Except for me. I don't know why that is,"

"But how can you be so, well-" I couldn't even finish what I was saying

"Gifted? Yes it is a rather powerful gift isn't it? Maybe it will make more sense if I tell you more about myself. I already know all of your secrets so it's only fair that I share my own. I'm just like the babies that you two are about to have. I'm a hybrid. Half human and half vampire,"

"What?" Lizzie and I asked at the exact same time.

"My mom was a human. My father is a vampire. My father's name is Joham. He thinks of himself as a scientist. I think he thinks he's creating a master race with his experiments. I have four half siblings. My sister Serena who was born in 1810. My sister Maysun who was born in 1820. My brother Nahuel who was born in the 1850s. And my sister Jennifer who was born in 1991. I was born in 1993. I just celebrated 13t h birthday,"

"You're only 13 years old?!" Lizzie nearly yelled.

"Please keep your voice down. Yes I'm only 13. Us hybrids grow fast up until we turn seven and then we stop aging forever,"

"How many of you are there?" I asked.

"We're an extremely rare species. As far as I know it's just my sisters, my brother, and I,"

"Liam how did your mother survive giving birth to you?" I instantly felt bad for having asked that question. He was getting tearful. "She didn't. None of our mothers did. If a woman is lucky enough to survive the conception of a hybrid and the entire gestation period she will not be lucky enough to survive the birth. The only way for a hybrid to be born is to rip his or way out of the mother's womb,"

"There is no way to survive? What if someone, another vampire perhaps, injected enough venom into the mother's body before she died? What if the wounds could be sealed before too much blood was lost?"

Lizzie listened just as attentively as I did for his answer.

"I can't say for sure. My father never cared about my mother enough to try. She was disposable to him,"

"I'm so sorry," I said.

"So was it your father that raised you?"

"No. Thank God for that. It was my grandparents that raised me. Yes they are human and yes they know absolutely everything. My grandparents are all the family I need to be happy. I don't want any kind of relationship with my father. The only person I truly respect is my brother Nahuel and that's because he and I share the same views on our father and what he did to both of our mothers. Our sisters don't care. They're loyal to our father,"

"I'm so sorry Liam,"

"Don't worry about it. You should be worried about yourselves. Oh and don't go back to the hospital. You're lucky the security cameras weren't working or you would've been caught. The hospital knows that there has been a theft as all of the missing blood was never logged into the system,"

"But how will we get the blood then?" Lizzie asked before I could.

"You leave that part to me. I'm a medical student at the University of Central Florida and I do an internship at the hospital. I can get my hands on the blood without causing suspicion,"

"You're only 13 and you're a med student?" I was shocked.

He cracked a smile. "I have been in college since I was six years old. Got my AA at age 8. Then I got my B.S in Biology at age 10. I have been in medical school for the last three years. I only have one year left. Speaking of which I have a class that is starting soon. I can bring you more blood tomorrow,"

"Thanks Liam,"

"Yeah thanks,"

After he left I felt very tired. I needed sleep. I laid down on the bed and closed my eyes. I thought about Edward and Jacob again. I missed them both so much. I just hoped that Edward was taking my disappearance well.
