Summary: Saw Gerrera and Ahsoka Tano meet again, after the events of Star Wars Rebels S4 E13 and before Rogue One. References to the Onderon arc of the Clone Wars. One-shot.
Control of the Situation
"Come, come!" Saw Gerrera called to his Partisans as they pulled from Jedha City. "We must gather more men before we press another attack. We will return at dawn tomorrow."
His rebels did not protest; they knew better than to question his orders. They knew his methods of discipline and have seen the effects it had on their prisoners. They followed along as they headed out across the deserts of Jedha, away from the Imperial controlled capital city.
It was after dark when he could make out the outline of the fallen ruins that marked the Partisans' base. He nodded his men inside, ordering them to get some rest before dawn came. He himself stayed outside, letting the calm, cool air of the desert push away the steam of the battle they had fought earlier that day.
But he wasn't alone. A woosh of air moved to his left and he followed it with his narrowed eyes. Nothing was there. A throat cleared on his right and he whipped towards the sound. There, in the darkness, he could make out the shape of a Togrutan figure.
"What do you want?" He demanded icily.
"Just to talk, Saw." He knew that voice. "It's been awhile."
"Ahsoka Tano." The Partisans' leader greeted. "You survived the purge, then. I'm glad to hear it."
"Yes." The former Jedi responded. "You've done well with Rex's training."
"What happened on Onderon inspired me." Saw shrugged. "One war evolved into another. I wasn't going to pull out just because the two factions changed."
"What brings you to Jedha?" Ahsoka asked him.
"I might ask you the same."
"I caught wind that the Empire was after kyber crystals and that led me here. Though it seems you and your men have control of the situation."
He nodded. "We've been protecting the temple for a couple of years now. The Empire hasn't gotten hold of any kyber crystals yet. We intend to keep it that way. Though I fear they'll bring in a star destroyer in soon. They're getting about as desperate as we are."
"I think you can manage. You've done well so far." She praised.
"You mean you're not going to help?" Saw frowned.
"No. You don't need my help." Ahsoka told him. "From what I hear, the Partisans haven't failed any missions. You don't need a Jedi to win."
"You're right. I've worked with my fair share of Jedi. Enough to learn that I don't always need them. Without the training on Onderon, we wouldn't have made it this far to begin with." He nodded, satisfied with her argument. "Would you at least like to see what we've built here, before you leave the planet?"
"Of course." She consented.
Saw opened the door, gesturing her inside. "After you, Commander."
