George Mason is briefing the president on the identity of the dead terrorist from the plant.

.

Mason: We've identified the dead terrorist. It turns out he was trained by the military.

.

The president braces himself. He knows that if another country is involved in this, he might have no choice but to declare war.

.

Donovan: Which country's military?

Mason: Ours sir.

Donovan: I don;t understand.

Mason: His name was Patrick Wilson, joined the military at 18. Sent to Afghanistan, believed to have been killed by insurgents three years ago.

Donovan: And why is he now helping a terrorist takeover of a nuclear power plant.

Mason: We don;t know his motives but will continue to research him.

Donovan: Thank you.

Jack Bauer reaches the reactor. He and Ella begin carefully cutting the primocord wires around the explosive. They have to be careful, and they fear they could be interrupted at any minute by the dead man's comrades. But, it seems they are successful. The explosive device is removed from the reactor. Jack calls major Banchard and president Donovan.

.

Jack: We removed the explosive device from the reactor. We can disarm it but we'll need help.

Blanchard: My explosives expert is standing by ready to talk you through it. Just get it away from the reactor. Meanwhile we can launch the assault.

Jack: Major the terrorists have taken the technicians hostage. You assault now they'll kill the hostages.

Blanchard: That is tragic, but against literally millions of civilians.

Jack: Just give me one hour, I can rescue them.

Blanchard: Mr president I strongly recommend an immediate assault.

Donovan: I understand major, but I'm going to give Jack just one hour to free the hostages. If you don't hear from him before then, or the terrorists regain control of this reactor, go in.

Blanchard: Understood mr president.

.

Jack Bauer puts on the dead terrorist's gear, specifically his mask. Hopefully he can fool them if he's caught. Jack knows he likely won't get out of this alive, but he can't let these innocent technicians die.
